So, Hayes is in the HEC squad. Excuse my ignorance, but was he not meant to be finally retired now?

    It was all PhatPiggins' fault.

Must be a slow day at work.

Niall Ronan had better been lifting some heavy things and eating everything in sight since the Ireland v Scotland game though. He looked more like a winger than a flanker.

Should have stuck with Cork Con, he'd be a winger now :)

Possibly should have, he's a seriously fast guy and a seriously flawed scrumhalf. I hope Munster keep Murray ahead of him, despite Murray's inexperience.

O'Learys been dreadful/injured/off form the past 18 months but I think we're all going way OTT with regard his talents.

'Should have stayed on the wing' :pac: The guy got selected for a Lions tour. Who was the last Irish 9 to do that? If we can get him back to his 2009 form then he's going to be an asset to Ireland and Munster.

Mike Sherry out for 6 weeks, according to MFs. Posted by a guy who generally doesn't post unless it's genuine.

The guy can't pass the ball and his incredible physicality and athleticism can't hide that.

Aussie pair say Munster’s Chambers a gem
    By Rory Keane, Auckland
    Saturday, October 22, 2011
MUNSTER’S new signing Will Chambers has received glowing references from two of his former Queensland Reds team-mates, Will Genia and Digby Ioane.
Chambers, who previously played Rugby League in Australia for the Melbourne Storm franchise, signed a six-month deal with Tony McGahan’s side and Wallabies winger Ioane thinks Munster have signed a real gem.

"He’s a top bloke and if he gets quick ball he can break the line and cause teams problems most definitely," said Ioane.

"He had a bad year with injuries last season, but when he’s fit to play he can make something out of nothing. I’m looking forward to seeing how he gets on over there."

Australia’s star scrum-half Genia expects the hard-running centre to make a big impression in Ireland.

"From a player’s point of view, he’s an absolute team man," said Genia.

"He does everything he can to make sure the team performs well on the field. He does the basics very well. He’s a big direct player and runs hard straight lines. He runs hard, tackles hard and has a great work ethic.

"He’s a classy player and he’ll do very well at Munster."

Didn't realise it was a 6 month deal, that'll take him up to the end of the March, we should know if he's any use by then.

Completely agree in regard to TOL

People are quick to brand a player useless when he's in poor form while forgetting just how crucial he was to our grand slam success

I for one hope he comes back into form

Never suggested he was useless but perhaps his talents lie elsewhere maybe. It is interesting that he had to move to Dolphin to play 9. I wonder if he could do a Morgan Parra and slot in at 10? It's going to be difficult for Munster to keep TOL, Strings, Williams and Murray playing regularly.

I'm suggesting he's useless. He can barely pass a rugby ball.

Ah go way outta that, I dont like all this excessive player bashing myself but to suggest he was crucial to our Grand Slam success is bull

Considering his physicality and form was kept him undisputed scrum half in that years six nations and was picked for a lions tour (where he probably would have started if not for injury) on the back of his performances I hardly think it's bull

maybe you could offer an explanation as to how it's bull rather than telling me to "go way outta that" and saying it's bull

What "important" tries did he score in the 09 6 Nations.

I'm not a fan of his but I don't see the relevance?

    What an exaggerated comment

    He's out of form.

Granted he may not be the fastest scrum half in the world but If he could barely pass a ball do you think he would have been picked for a lions tour?

Who defines a scrum half's performance by their tries scored? TOL had a very good 6N. He was aggressive, mobile, moved the ball far more quickly than he did previously and got through a lot of defensive work. His passing was infinitely more accurate also. He hasn't been a patch on the player he was since his injury and I don't think I would describe him as a crucial player for us in 2009 but he was definitely the deserved first choice and did very well.

I never said he played well in 09 did I, you were the one who suggested that my claim of him being crucial to Ireland's grandslam success was nonsense

Errr, no, Ireland won the slam in 2009.

To slow to delete, hate that!

And on his form, he was actually very good in the 2009 6N imo. If anyone ever bothers to watch the France game from that season again his passing is quick and accurate and he doesn't hesitate at the breakdown. Since then though, he has varied between average and just downright awful. The fact he was starting ahead of Reddan as recently as the 6N just gone is an utter joke, only Kidney would make that selection.

Nice edit:D, I'm not trying to bash the guy as its been done to death but he was very average in the 09 6N, he benefitted from a general obsession with all things Munster and Irish at the time of the Lions squad announcement due to the Irish GS and Munsters recent success. Also Munster hockeyed the Ospreys in the HC the week before the squad announcement where O'Leary was excellent and totally outplayed Mike Phillips.

It's not hard to outplay your opposing SH when your pack is making an absolute mess of theirs.

He never would have started for the Lions, and considering how good Philips was on that tour it would have been a travesty if he did.

I don't think he's out of form. I think the injury has destroyed his confidence. He came back to a different game and he has struggled immensely. If he was just out of form he wouldn't be still sliding down the pecking order 2 years after his injury. Sad to say, but I think the best thing for TOL would be to get out of Ireland now and try to rebuild his career and confidence elsewhere away from the magnifying glass of Irish rugby.

You know I have a similar view but was going to say the best thing for him would be to spend 3 months in Dolphin ripping apart the AIL and build up his confidence. Though abroad could work

Either that or a change of position. I'm not sure that on his best he can play as an international SH. He has always relied on the fact that he is a amazing athlete physically and used that to ignore some basic skills
