well if it's true about the media it's true about all of us

Most people were of the view that the good times wouldn't end, hence the ridiculous borrowing and speculative investing

I'm surprised no one's pulled you up on this yet, but not everyone engaged in "ridiculous borrowing" or "speculative investing".

Regarding Bertie and the eFFer apologists, they've been trying to deflect this sh1t onto other parties for quite a while now. Previously, it was the opposition, who didn't "control" FF while they were in opposition. Now it's de meeja.

Next, it'll be the fault of the immigrants.

The man has to be the dumbest public representative we've ever had. And now he's deluded.

    He needs to be committed...

Property supplements the thickness of your forearm. Media commentators writing puff pieces on property developers painting them as some type of intrepid Alan Quartermain figures boldly borrowing off banks to fund lavish lifestyles. Have the bloody staff of Ireland's newspapers scuttered at the Fianna Fail Christmas parties.

The man is wrong in his assertions but yet there is a fundamental kernel of truth in his assessment of the media. The one point he omits is that he played with the media like a child plays with a kitten. Their righteous indignation now is funny considering the amount of spoof and bullshit they wrote about Bertie and his cronies and how great they were.

Lest we forget the lavish praise for our intrepid heroes marching off to buy up London Landmark buildings, cocking a snook at the establishment with our new found brashness and riches (borrowed). The papers in this country and the flutes that fill their pages with typing for them would make you sick if they weren't such a well crafted dadist performance.

I imagine his political legacy matters a great deal to him. That's the only consolation I can really take from his pernicious tenure and subsequent fall from grace.

He can advise tin-pot dictators on how best to approach EU trade negotiation, attend myriad conferences on international peace and reconciliation or speak to US college students who will indulge his self-congratulatory guff .

I'd wager it eats away at him that in his own backyard, he's synonymous with greed, incompetence and venality. And it will always be so.

...And even more sickening, is that we have to pay for his funeral.

Personally, I'd stick the schite in a sack and kick his bones into an unmarked grave.

ok, let me put it in his own words... they should go and commit suicide.

so he wants an investigation into the media, even though when there were some warning voices,he told them to go and do the above.

    just fuck off bertie.

I have been saying for years lock this rat basterd in the stocks with all his cronies and give everyone the day off to kick him up the hole and hurl rotten food at him, with anyone who wants to pay getting to beat the fcuker with €10 worth of pennies in a sock.

    Mentally or physically?

I say "Yes" to the first. He's certainly either delusional or at least in denial!

a direct consequence of the many idiotic govt decisions made under him is the thousands of irish who emigrated to Uk, Oz, Canada, dubai etc over the last few years. He should do us all a favour and disappear off to nigeria with his buddies over there.

Sounds like he's trying to gain media attention to either promote or deflect. Is he releasing a book soon? or are the results of the Mahon tribunal due out?

    The madness of King Bertie.

    He's partly trying to deflect!
Even Mike Murphy said it on the Late Late show a few weeks ago.
(Mike was interviewing him for a interview show of his own)
Mike said that Mr Ahern was still in denial as to what role he had in the downturn of the economy and as to what actions he did or should have done (but didn't), during his interview with him.

The Mahon tribunal report was supposed to be published already but was deliberately delayed till after the presidential election. The official excuse was that they had to look at more FF papers!
    Himmmm.... Call me a skeptic!

He has either lost the plot OR he wasn't lying in court, he really can't remember.

Who remembers him slagging of the doom merchants 2007, so some in the media were reporting on the economy, just he wasn't interested.

But I don't I think he could have done anything about it the ponsi scheme we called the celtic tiger was way out of control then.

We were doing well, then at the instance of his Drumcondra Mafia mates, he loosened the banking laws so they could push the boundaries of rules and dip further into the property market and further inflate it more big time.

Then he and his cronies went and advocated a policy of spend, spend, spend... (To their advantage of course!)

    ...And thats the short version.

I couldn't give a fcuk what Mr Ahern insists is needed anymore.

    1. Its a diversionary tactic.
    2. He knows a tribunal report will come out later (sadly delayed by the FG/Labour lot for own political reasons!)- so better to get the dig in at the papers beforehand!
    3. The man is full of schite - is a schite - and I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.

I would, then set him on fire again, the potato headed prick.

Agreed he was a national disaster, the biggest to hit Ireland since the potato famine.

Although we were culpable as well to a degree, he was leading us and it was his job to govern effectively which he utterly failed.
