Just watched Rampage. It'd be my first solution. Maybe my "final" one. Cough. Yes I realise it's written and directed by that goon Uwe Boll, but it's actually good! No, really!

Yes, the global population may be 7 billion but the rate of growth is mercifully slowing down significantly.

The bigger story is that now more than half the worlds population lives in cities and towns.

I heard the exact same thing when the population had only recently turned 6,000,000,000, that was about 10 years ago.

I think OP is on to something, only a matter of time before my local VEC is offering an innovative new course on how to develop carrots.

This is very subjective to what type for farming your are talking about.

Bad idea is bad........this has been done before with the Irish economy and failed miserably. Need serious investment in R&D nowadays to stay ahead of the game.

Plenty of room alright, but that isn't the problem. It is allocation of resources that is becoming an issue.

It's irrelevant how many there's room for, it's how many the world's resources can sustain.

edit: just noticed Pompey Magnus said that already

David Attenbrough did a bbc documentry about it last year suggesting that it was a big problem, joined optimumtrust trying to combat some of the problems because of what it was doing to wildlife. He said he recieved hate mail from Libertarians though.

Oh and the world's birth rates aren't declining necessarily. Only in Europe and North America. Africa and most of Asia are still booming and aren't showing signs of slowing down.

Birth rates are dropping on all continents. In most counties bar a few in Africa and a handful in Asia they dropping very slowly or are static but thats the exception. Check out this graph.

    Ireland is a farming economy.

When the sun burns out in 2012 we're going to find it hard to grow food and the population will die down to only a few million, then an ice age will last a few more decades until we orbit a new sun.

It's all in the bible guys.

Yes, everything's getting farmed out to other countries.

7 billion hungry, thirsty and energy/luxury demanding souls and now all the cheeky cnuts want to live as we do.

The truth is the Earth isn't big enough so time to move. OK not an option.

It's one of those problems, like global warming, which we know is leading to a catastrophe but there is not a damn thing we can do about it. So I say let the future deal with it in resource wars, that would cull it.
