okay, so if everyone occupies these vacant ones for nothing, Who the hell is going to kick start your market?

You idea is ill thought out.

Eh, the most important people in any housing market - first time buyers. I didn't say they should all be occupied for free, I'd suggest some be used to help reduce the housing list and some be demolished. Many of those on the housing list will never be home purchasers so allowing them to occupy some of these houses would ease the burden on taxpayers at very little relative cost.

And there were no houses for rent on the private rental market that would have served this purpose then?

It would seem not that he can afford. He has kids that he wants to see and stay over so while this is empty I don't see the harm.

Some people just hate the poor, I've never been on the dole and I hope I never am. I hate to see people abuse the social welfare system but there is people who have personal issues and I don't begrudge my taxes going to help them and if a house is collecting dust and mould I have no problem with what this person is doing. He's doing no harm.

It seems to me that the biggest problem most people have with this whole incident is the subject's character, Not the actual incident in the context of the law.

He has that option from the council already they provide rent supplement OR a council home. So thats a rubbish excuse.

And he will chance his arm all the way even if the house is sold. Ive drank in the pub with his type. He is a massive chancer and thats the only way to describe him. Your deluded if you think he is some sort of champion of social responsibility.

And then he attacks the ones in negative equity - the greedy ones stuck with huge mortgages.

Don't worry it's probably just Bertie Ahern in a rubber mask. Those pesky kids will sort him out.

Eh he cant afford any housing however the state will provide him with rent for a place adequate for his needs. But thats not good enough for this guy it seems. He wants a 3 bed semi d with front and rear garden for his kids to visit him in. Well i'd like a penthouse apartment with a hot tub on the roof but guess what, I CANT AFFORD IT. And if I lost my job tomorrow i certainly wouldnt expect the tax payer to cough up, nor would I just claim an unoccupied property and set up home. Why? Because i'm not a scrounger with major delusions of entitlement.

Is that not what everyone does when they need a place to live?

Tough. He's not a 6 year old so you'd imagine he understands the concept of having to wait for things.

He seen these houses and saw no harm in him living there and he's breaking no laws, I'm with him on this, he is causing no harm and now his kids can stay with their parent.

If you were on the dole you would have to apply for rent supplement like most unemployed persons. I've never been on the dole but if I am I'll take what I'm entitled to and won't feel guilty for it and do would you.

And peoples financial status doesnt matter, if you are a chancer your a chancer and il call you on it. I hope he gets ejected.

He is doing harm as i have already pointed out and it would seem he can afford private rented as i have already pointed also and i did so by showing he doesnt even need rent allowance.

I assume then you agree that he should be taken off the housing list now that he no longer has a housing need??? I assume teaching your kids to steal is acceptable parenting these days in your opinion.

You said he cant afford private rented, yet the man has seven kids so he can afford to feed cloth and house all seven of his kids then can he????

So hypothetically speaking,If this case revolved around a family with a few kids where the parent(s) got let off in this downturn and had their house reposessed,You would want the parent(s) prosecuted and the family out of the house immediately.
    Only for arguments sake.

I'm not trying to defend this mans actions whatsoever,But the anger in here is directed at an "invisible" crowd of spongers,Fraudsters and what not,When really I think it should be directed at the government for accomodating this attitude within all classes during the boom.I see you've already posted about that much in your older posts,So I don't disagree with you there.

No, this is a temporary measure, I'm sure once the state finds his accomodation he'll leave.

He is separated, I'm sure he contributes, nothing says he doesn't contribute to his kids welfare. Should he be hung because he's separated now?

This, coming from you, who has sneered at people who bought during the boom and are now in negative equity? Because they were greedy?

I have no problem with poor people.

I have problems with scroungers, who have never lifted a finger in their lives, happy out to sit on their arses, claiming everything they can, and wanting more

Like this lad has gone and done - seen something he wanted & taken it.

What's your point? I'm criticising people who wanted to be property developers and landlords and when their INVESTMENT when ker-plunk I'm supposed to feel sorry for them? Sorry that's capitalism, that's the system you played in and sometimes you get burned.

I dislike those people as well, but there is people who have had personal issues and you need a social safety net for those people, even drug addicts as repulsive as their addiction is.

We have the highest paid out 'social safety net' in europe

But his housing need has been satisfied so he no longer has a need to be housed by the local authority, and do you honestly think if the local authority made him an offer of tenancy in a one bed tomorrow he would accept it given the fact he would be charged about €40 to live there whereas now he is living rent free in a 3bed semi?

Maybe people criticising him should focus their energies on the Banks and the Corporate Class of Greed i.e the govt who ruined this country.

Irish Society is really really gone to sh1te.

Yeah and a man stealing a house and people applauding him for it only emphasises how bad society is today

Whilst I don't like the idea of everyone taking up this mans example I refuse to take the moral high ground on the subject. If I was in his position I can't say I wouldn't do the same thing,And I think anyone that says they know for a fact they wouldn't might be slightly naive.

    Lets do this full circle.

If I as a Banker or Gambler loose billions to through reckless lending and destroy a nation for 20 - 30 years.. im pretty sure that I wont go to prison.

Lets put things in perspective here.

    Full circle? Hardly...

Lets not talk about bankers or reckless lending and focus on the fact that this scumbag degenerate basically stole a house!
