A bunch of trip advisor apps are now free (looks like they were just released, not sure if they are permanently free).

Cities include: Amsterdam, Barcelona, Beijing, Berlin, Boston, Chicago, Florence, Hong Kong, Hawaii, Las Vegas, London, Los Angeles, New York City, Orlando, Paris, Rome, San Francisco, Sydney, Tokyo, Washington D.C.

For any usenet users this is an amazing app that brings together Sabnzb, Sickbeard and Couchpotato in one place. Beautiful well polished app, works well. Irish dev too so well worth half the price of a pint.

I've found this handy for my "linux isos" when abroad.

Might have been mentioned already but a search turned up nothing.

For those stuck on lower versions of android, the 2.3 launcher is worth looking at

No rooting required, works really well on my 2.1 SE X8

Should just be an app pre-installed on your phone called Talk

You cant call through the google talk app afaik, only IM. For calls you'd need google voice, which isn't working in Ireland, i think. Or Skype, which works over 3G aswell as wifi.

Not sure if Skype works over 3G on all networks.

Google Talk is pre installed, it's called talk. You can do video chats but you need Android 2.3.4 for this. I haven't upgraded from 2.3.3 yet so haven't tested.

With android 2.3.4 you can do voice chat with your google talk contacts (and video chat if supported by phone).

Google voice is a different thing.

Ah, I'm running 2.3.3 so that's why I cant get to allow me to call my contacts. Might update to a newer rom and see what it's like.

Swipepad is a very handy and clever app that allows you open a range of apps of your choice from inside another app.
Eg you're using the browser but want to send a text or make a note. With swipe pad rather than closing the browser and returning to the home screen you can open the text app/notepad/whatever from within the browser from a menu activated by a swipe and you return to the browser with just one click when your done.
Highly recommended . I would already be lost without it and I'm only using it for a week.

use it myself, tho initally annoyed me as I had it swipe area where I scrolled so kept opening it accidentally. moved it and couldn't be happier. great little app.

Didn't see any mention of pocket casts , brilliant podcast app. Used to use on iPhone and delighted to see there is an android version. Subscribe and download to all your favourite podcasts, option to stream the podcasts instead of downloading, very simple interface for navigation, widgets for controlling on lock screen etc. can't recommend highly enough.

yeah but what if not there? it's very handy having a permanent link to apps with one swipe of the finger the app is open and ready for use. very quick and easy.

    Hi Talla,

It's a very nice app but doesn't have "Ireland" as a country. I'm a Newstalk fan. Is there some way I can import Newstalk Podcasts into this app? I've tried importing http://media.newstalk.ie/podcast/26936/ using the "Import Podcast" function but no joy. Any ideas?

    Ben
