This adds nothing to his argument. The distinction is irrelevant. Fact is, you are punished for trying to generate wealth in this country. The 41% tax rate is an example. These liberal feather heads should be open in arms to more private Enterprise, but no, that is against their liberal agenda.

I live in Holland and pay a 42% tax rate. Maximum is 52%. 41% seems like quite a low tax rate when you compare it to the maximum in other countries. Especially teh Scandinavian countries you seem to like so much.

Apologies, we got off on the wrong foot, i apologise for taking pot shots at you as its not really constructive, and admittedly ignorant on my part, so for that im sorry for coming across that way.

However, your views are heart-warmingly liberal, after a few years in the real world paying tax and getting screwed over I wonder will you still maintain those views.

Posters like the OP seem blind to the fact that at the end of all this, you die.

So, you can, during the short and uncertain time allotted to you on this earth either try and make your best efforts to achieve some happiness for yourself, whether it involves personal satisfaction with how you spend your days, finding a soul-mate, falling in love and sharing your life with someone, spending time with your family and close friends, doing things that interest and inspire you, allowing yourself to enjoy to the fullest extent whatever fruits of your labour you can generate, or whatever. In the meantime, allow yourself to experience some small satisfaction that you are not a scumbag, that you don't allow yourself to deliberately hurt people and that you have some values which lead you to follow a decent road in life.

Or, you can spend your time looking with some wierd form of quasi-envy and bitterness at people who spend most of their days scratching their arses drinking or drugging themselves into varying states of oblivion and running around the place claiming benefits to which they may or may not be entitled.

You can whine about the fact that they don't seem to care that they do this or care about you. You can allow your unwillingness to make the most of what you've got spoil whatever good things are available to you. You can waste the short and uncertain time allotted to you continually feeling hard done by because you have some basic values which prevent you from acting like a scumbag but seem to lack the wherewithal to actually go and live your life and enjoy it.

Basically, if that scumbag life style genuinely attracts you, fook off and go and live it. I'll happily ignore you.

Otherwise, shut yourself up and go and try and find something that allows you to feel happy, then go and do it, because life is too short for whinging, on the internet, or elsewhere.

    Stuff of dreams really :D

It is people like my parents (who il be honest are middle class) who pay 41% tax are the real losers in this pathetic country, getting up at 7 in the morning for the past 30 years to keep scumbag hooligans in college with their student grant so they can go off drinking as soon as the pubs open.

:D Some serious comedy gold on here.

I wouldn't consider myself a liberal just because I disagree with you overtly right wing views

In-fact I'd be somewhat centre left and more of a realist

Noted, and hope you accept my apology for all the pot shots i took pew pew :D

I assume im right in saying your not out of uni/college yet and in the working world? its a different place my friend, i used to be like you, believing that this was a fair country, but theres only so much "im heading off on holiday with my dole money" i can listen to when i havent been on holiday in 11 years, or seeing facebook pics of those and their student grants getting absolutely wastered on a night out when I barely could afford a bottle of the finest bucky, and there is my problem my friend.

Oh dear lord ive become Alison O Riordan

Mods, take me out the back and shoot me, i dont want to live on this planet anymore :(

If you work for a living like most of us, you are working class

The term working class refers to unskilled/manual labour but used to refer to everyone who worked with the exception of what were deemed elite professions such as doctor/ banker/ lawyer etc. who were deemed middle class. The modern definition of middle class effectively means educated working people.

im a student this is my fourth year in college, when i started my mam was part time worker and my dad was self employed but was out of work nearly 2 years when i started, i got the grant jus over 3,000euro, i work part time at the weekends, since then my mam became ill, hasnt worked in 3 years and my dad the same ill as well, im still on that grant and trying to work weekends, i dont throw my grant money away, i struggle every week to pay rent, bills, food and transport and believe me if i have 2euro left over thats a bonus to me, so not every student out there gets the higher 5 or 6gs a year and they dont all piss it away either! it doesnt make sense to me to do that and there are many out there who have well off parents with farms of land who are able to screw the system and get the 5 or 6g

Why would I google the quality of life in the country I live. What extra benefits do i get for my higher tax rate? Considering I have to pay city tax, health insurance, water charges, rubbish collection. All of these on top of the 42% tax i pay.

Duckie, I wish all my tax money went straight to your pocket alone in that case as you would utilise it to the maximum for day to day expenses, and the fact you work your arse off too is noble. Sorry to hear about your mam, i wish you the best of luck with final year, chin up and get out with a nice high degree so youll soon have plenty of cash in the claw :)

No, seriously, spending all that money on every single person who received a student grant was very kind of them.
    And I enjoyed squandering it.

Make sure you tell them that as well. They should know.

If youre not happy living in a country consistently ranked as having a high quality of living, i suggest you stop whinging and come over here where the social welfare office will treat you like royalty :D

I am happy living here. I am also happy to pay the tax as thats the only way that society can function.
I'm not the one whinging and moaning about the fact that my tax money goes to pay for those less fortunate.

Hey now- in Ireland we have an amazing system that only funnels your tax money into things you don't agree with.

Clearly, you live in some bizzaro world where the fraction of the tax you pay that could conceivably go to something you may personally not be happy about is so small that acting as is the system has personally targeted you would be amazingly stupid.

5 Billion is what Noonan has to take out of the budget.

So people we are all going to get screwed for Christmas, but not in the nice way.

Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

Your parents get paid enough to be taxed 41%... are you having a laugh? Yea they are really getting screwed

As you've amply demonstrated I've taken quite an amount of money from your parents already, it'd be wrong of me to also take advantage of their child's lousy grasp of reality as well.

You keep fighting the good fight though, let us know how the tax system is out to get your parents. I need a laugh.

I dont see where your animosity is coming from? Im all in favour of protecting hard working individuals, along with those in need, not greedy wánkers like Ahern and his crew
