    Australian Kelpie.

This is my 16 week old kelpie pup named Daisy.

    1001751a.jpg

Drove 900 k's (round trip) to get her.

Daisy sleeps on her blanket at the end of my bed.

A replacement for my 15 year old kelpie Sally, who passed away in my arms a few months back.

Kelpies are great with kids and other dogs, in fact with most animals.

Extremely smart dogs, very quick to learn.

    Facts
Personality: The Kelpie is an alert, active and friendly dog who’s devoted to his family. He’s also highly intelligent, eager to please and devoted to work.

Suitable for: An active person or family who enjoys training and spending time with their dog. The Kelpie is a devoted one-man or one-family dog and will expect to be included in the family outings!

Favourite activities: The Kelpie loves activity and enjoys flyball, agility, obedience and herding the sheep on the farm. He’ll need to be obedience-trained from a young age but will learn things pretty quickly.

Backyard requirements: The Kelpie is a true working dog and will thrive on a large property, but he’ll adapt to a large backyard as long as he has plenty of mental stimulation, such as daily walks and games. He won’t take kindly to being left in the backyard and will quickly become destructive if bored or ignored.

Watchdog qualities: While the Kelpie is a friendly breed, he can be protective of his family and property and will bark at strangers or any unusual happenings on his property.

My retired greyhound boy is the sweetest, most gentle dog ever. I love him so much even if he is a lazy lump!!:)
I also had a boxer as a child who was wonderful. He was calm and gentle when he needed to be but was great fun and nuts when it was play time. Always swore I'd get another one but to be honest I don't think I'll ever have anything other than rescue Greyhounds in future. Rescue Greys trump all other breeds!!!!:D

theyre bloody addictive arent they :D

I had a mongrol when I was growing up. Such a great dog.

I prefer mongols to thoroughbreds but German Shepherds are my favorite breed. They are extremely smart, loyal and protective(can be a problem). My cousins had quite a few Labradors over the years and they were always lovely, good natured dogs.

An Italian Spinone. She was an enormous dog and her size used to put a lot of people off but in reality was a total sweetheart. Only had her for five years or so before she died but she was the best pet I ever had. No pics on this computer but she looked like this.

I've never had a dog for keeps, the closest I've gotten was a JRT that I picked up in the park one day and brought home. he was wet, dirty, underfed and terrified of people. handed him over to animal welfare two days later.he was a great little companion, even if it was just for two days. the second morning (he slept in my room on a pillow) I woke up, and looked down at him, and he got excited and ran up onto the bed, and snuggled down beside me :):( miss him.

    here's a pic

    and two more
Lovely looking dog there. Seems like about half of long-term strays I see are Jack Russells.
    Jack Russells hard as F**K
Aye. We had one for a while then my uncle next door had him. I always refer to him as mine though. :pac: Anyway my uncle kept greyhounds and when the Jack Russell was about 3 he got savaged and somehow survived. Week later he was after the Greyhounds again. :pac:

Few years later he went missing for a few days and we found him down the street curled up. Took him to the vet who said his ribs were broken on both sides, looked like on one side he'd been kicked and the other side the ribs were crused down and a huge lump of skin was missing, could actually see his lung. Anyway, was going to cost more money than any of us had to fix him up so we got him stitched up, took him home and kept him on antibiotics etc. and within a week or two he was back on his feet.

He live for about 10 years after that, died last Christmas at 18. Utter legend of a dog. Even last year he'd be out in the garden when one of the greyhounds was in heat and sniff around for her. 18, bent legs and dick dragging along the ground. :pac:

Mt favorite dog was Sally. My lovely jack russle. She died a few months ago at the age of 18 :(

Buried her in my garden and put a large rock over her grave and craved RIP Sally into it. Best dog ever.

But there a while ago i saw a german shepard mixed with a golden retriever. Most amazing looking dog i have seen. I want one.

My guy has the body and head of a Shepherd and the colouring of a Retriever all over. He has one pointy ear and one floppy one. :D

He's a powerhouse though, very strong dog.

Currently have a Whippet whos really weird and doesnt even act like a dog. More lazy cat :/

The only pedigree we ever had was a Doberman but it "ran away" (got shot). Only ever owned mongrels picked up from the pound after that, wouldn't ever pay for or own a pedigree.

I had 'Peanuts' from the age of 8 'til I was 22.

German Shepherd crossed with god knows what.

Smart and friendly chap. As a small pup, he would manipulate the furniture when we left the house, so as to form scaffold by which he'd access the comfy couch. He also rendered most of my magnificent action figure collection worthless.

    The divil.

Six pages and no one so far on boards.ie has yet mentioned an irish breed.

The best dogs in terms of breed we had was the irish blue terrier the same breed as collins kept.
Bred as an all purpose dog to suit the irish peasants this dog is a natural herder, guard dog and was commonly used for badger baiting.

All our blues were very good with children, we breed a few litters and have had some throw backs emerge one especially which grew to be the size of a wolfhound had the colourings of a wheaten and was incredible stupid but also incredibly playful and friendly.
We kept this one from that litter. :D

Great all round dog and doesnt have a muzzling order.

My current dog is a collie mix which we took in to save it from being destroyed and as a companion to the now dead stupid blue and at nearly 18 years and the energy of a pup may keep me from ever getting another blue.

Have to admit I've a soft-spot for Samoyeds now. Was in a mate's for drinks a coupla months ago and on the way out I saw one walking on the road and again when I was out for a smoke. Poor bastard was very stray, no collar or anything and followed someone else home. I convinced my mate's mother to keep the dog for a few days til the local rescue could pick it up. He was limping heavily when he arrived but my mate said within two days he was fine and wanted to play constantly. Turned out he was stolen from the North a coupla days earlier. Happy ending though for a cool bastard of a dog. :)

The family dog we have is currently a Husky, his name is Kyser..

He's a dopey oul dog but we love him :D

OP mentioned the American Eskimo dog. My Japanese Spitz would be very similar. Total sweethearts of dogs, very clean, their coat is like teflon and dirt just falls off it, you only wash them a few times a year and they dont smell even when they've come in from the rain so no 'damp dog' smell about the house. Very protective of family and want to be with you as much as they can, preferably next to you or on you on the sofa!

Shiro is three and we have him since he was a pup. Jack passed away earlier this year, he came to us from the JS rescue. Still gutted that he's gone. He was just like a big teddy bear. And Rocky came to us from the rescue so Shiro wouldn't be lonely ;)
