I read the article twice, think i missed out the part about "the muslims" ordering this to be changed.

Like i said i heard it was because of the Islam religion from my friend who lived in england and she told me about how they were offended by the term "christmas" She also said bus stop adds and bilboards displaying addverts of scantly dressed women were vandalised and the women in the adds were given spray painted burkas etc!!

And my friend says that the Jews did 9/11.

Christmas is originally a celebration of Winter Solstice. Fact.
Easter - also lines up perfectly with old pagan dates of celebration, and so on and so forth.

Quite frankly it was a bit hard to convince people back then to give up their joyous pagan rituals for this Christ guy, and so, the dates just happened to align. Why the hell do you think the old celtic/viking influenced areas got christmas trees (which wasn't originally called that of course) in the first place? Yule logs etc? It certainly has nothing, at all, do to with christ.

    At all.

I wont have the true meaning of christmas sullied, anyway everyone knows what christmas is really about, its where our one lord and saviour John McClane saved all those souls in Nakatomi plaza and made good with Holly. but not before dropping Hans out a window.

    amen.

What aspects of Christmas are "OUR" culture exactly?

Christmas is a christian thing i know, But We have always used "christmas, easter, Saint Patricks day" anyway despite out religion! Why should we change be cause it offends a group of people(small group i should say) who have a different culture. Its not doing any harm we are not invading their culture! They chose life here, so!

But they were pagan holidays, they're changing the names just like the Christians did when they invaded.

If that was restricted to one day, I'd have feck all to do for the rest of the year.:(

Airing of grievances in-person is much more fun tbh! Plus you have the added bonus of them not being allowed to respond before you're finished.....doesn't happen around here much nowadays! :(

It was a "winter holiday" long before they put the christ in it.

Well, they are the Winter Holidays, aren't they?

Yup dey are! But i think it would be sad to loose "christmas"crackers,"christmas"trees, "christmas"presents,"christmas"dinner,"christmas"lights , And cards that said Merry"christmas".
I know this wont happen but its the fact people are trying to make it happen that erks me!!
What will we call easter eggs when"easter" is forbidden ???

But the Trees, the presents and the merriment are all pagan traditions. All the Christians added was prayer.

So I don't think it would be a huge loss.

But can you imagine the uproar [...]
Or if we went to India and started major beef and dairy production businesses!

India has a fairly substantial beef industry, they are the third largest exporter of beef in the world after Australia and Brazil and is the worlds largest producer of dairy products, they turn out ~74 trillion tonnes of milk a year. Both beef and dairy feature heavily in traditional Indian cuisine. Mmmm Beef Madras... So I don't think there would be that much of an uproar really. ;)

But sure you can buy them all year round!!!! What would we call the special big ones we get every year around March/April/May time?

It's a load of bollox, and I for one look forward to the threads started which question why otherwise secular and strongly atheist people celebrate and defend their reasoning for doing so using vigorous fluffy logic. Cognitive dissonance at its best.
