Im no devoute Catholic, infact i despise the church and their carry-on. (However i still belive in god)Im a very openminded and liberal person, im not racist in any way, i live and let live but i think out culture and heritage is important and should be valued and i think this is a sad day. Christmas is part of out culture here and should not be changed because it is not part of certain peoples culture/religion.

One of my bestfriends is English and she told me of how Christmas lights are now called winter lights there! I was like wtf?
She told me it was because it was said using the word "christmas was racist and discriminated against the Islam culture"

Not i have nothing agains Muslims, or anyone else but what i dont like is how we change things like christmas to suite people from another country and culture, especially when they dont do the same for us?
Im really disapointed this is happening. If you are muslim and want to live in West Europe/North America, come on in! I have no problem, but dont expect us to change our values to suite you?
    * am not racist and what i say does not just apply to the Islam religion/culture but all varying cultures/religions.

Meh, I'll continue to call it Christmas, I'll celebrate it as Christmas - and nobody's going to arrest me for it. Just because a few local authorities in England refer to it at an official level as Winter Holidays doesn't mean people cannot dare refer to it as Christmas on these islands.

Nothing's been changed. In America, there's all the "happy holidays" stuff for years and years - has Christmas been outlawed?

There really isn't a need to get so worried about this kinda abstract stuff. Removing a nativity scene from a hospital though, yes, I would object to that.

I'm not mad on the whole process of Festivus tbh. I'd be happy enough with the Feats of Strength and the Airing of the Grievances only

Couldn't care less what they call it. It's all just nonsense that is perpetuated by advertisers and marketeers in order to help sell 25% of their stock of useless unwanted crap in one just 1week.

They could call it Annual Gift Season and it wouldn't make a bit of difference. Actually "Annual Gift Day" has a nice ring to it. In fact the only reason it's probably even being mooted for a change is not to do with PC and is instead so these sellers of crap can weasel themselves in to non Christian wallets also.

I cant foresee the muslims changing there holidays as not to offend us somehow.

    Islam isnt a race.
Epic fail by so very many.

Christmas was originally Yule and a multitude of other names with nothing to do with that Christ Johnny come lately. Its only another name change. Pressies and drink and food will remain.

I couldn't give a **** what we call it, but I'm going to point out that "Christmas" is based on European Pagan tradition, in fact there is a passage in the bible...
Hear the word that the Lord speaks to you, O house of Israel. Thus says the Lord: “Learn not the way of the nations, nor be dismayed at the signs of the heavens because the nations are dismayed at them, for the customs of the peoples are vanity. A tree from the forest is cut down and worked with an axe by the hands of a craftsman. They decorate it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so that it cannot move. Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field, and they cannot speak; they have to be carried, for they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good.”

So happy holidays is more accurate.

When the English were told to take their St Georges flag down in case it offended non - British - non - christian members of the population ( who to be fair are not on record of complaining much ..or at all ) you knew then the loony PC brigade had taken over but not for to long ... the tide may be turning

I know i get your point but what annoys me is that people are offended at our culture! I know the whole Christmas thing is commericalised! But can you imagine the uproar in Yemen/Packistan,UAE etc if we went over and said "we live here now and we are offended by your loud bell thing you use when its time to pray, can you turn it off [lease, Thanks"
Or if we went to India and started major beef and dairy production businesses!

Have you been to those countries? I haven't. I don't know what it's like or what they think over there about Christian attitudes. But it's a bit easy to paint the majority of Muslims as fanatics.

As for it going on over here, I'd say deep down most of them don't give a **** about retaining the name Christmas or not, especially when they consider they've chosen to live in a predominantly Christian culture.

Deep down it's just a lot of media lies to push their fear agenda.

Like i said i heard it was because of the Islam religion from my friend who lived in england and she told me about how they were offended by the term "christmas" She also said bus stop adds and bilboards displaying addverts of scantly dressed women were vandalised and the women in the adds were given spray painted burkas etc!!

Christmas is originally a celebration of Winter Solstice. Fact.
Easter - also lines up perfectly with old pagan dates of celebration, and so on and so forth.

Quite frankly it was a bit hard to convince people back then to give up their joyous pagan rituals for this Christ guy, and so, the dates just happened to align. Why the hell do you think the old celtic/viking influenced areas got christmas trees (which wasn't originally called that of course) in the first place? Yule logs etc? It certainly has nothing, at all, do to with christ.

    At all.

I wont have the true meaning of christmas sullied, anyway everyone knows what christmas is really about, its where our one lord and saviour John McClane saved all those souls in Nakatomi plaza and made good with Holly. but not before dropping Hans out a window.

    amen.

Christmas is a christian thing i know, But We have always used "christmas, easter, Saint Patricks day" anyway despite out religion! Why should we change be cause it offends a group of people(small group i should say) who have a different culture. Its not doing any harm we are not invading their culture! They chose life here, so!

But they were pagan holidays, they're changing the names just like the Christians did when they invaded.
