    Things were getting slower and slower(above reading was a highlight!) so reset my router and it seems to have helped:

    Supposed to be on 25MB UPC connection. This result is typical of what it's become like day in, day out.
    Not sure what way to approach getting UPC to fix it. Suppose I'll try the phone customer service first.

    about 3km from exchange so there's obviously something wrong.. finally got round to ringing eircom about it and there's a guy coming tomorrow to have a look at it.. fingers crossed anyways it gets fixed or I'm going to be fairly pissed off because I'm supposed to be getting a 4mb download speed according to the eircom rep...

    we'll see tomorrow anyways what happens -fingers crossed

    Homevison 8mb package. Pretty happy tbh. Knew I was taking a risk by getting them having read some threads, but no line rental and no download limit kinda hooked me
    Tested using milton keynes server as it seemed more stable at the time

    ^^^^ Sweet Lord!

    On my recently activated VF 3meg line I get:

    DOWN = 2.5meg
    UPLOAD = 0.35meg
    PING = 40-45

    All figures seem to be constant, irrespective of the time of day.

    I am happy with the steady download speed, but what about the other 2 stats?
    Are they good?
    Why is the UP so much lower than the DOWN?

    u will always get a slow upload speed on ADSL
    your ping could be better, but it's not bad.
    lower the ping the better

    What the hell is going on? All the speedtest results on this thread have disappeared!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 jim.

    They'll come back I guess, the images are probably generated on the fly on the speedtest.net server, which is throwing a wobbly ;)

    Hello

    I just got UPC fibre powered broadband, the 50 MB pack, have been running speedtests and am gettin crap results.......nowhere near 50 mb. Am testing with a physical wired cable also and gettin download speeds of between 0.76 mb and 8 mb !!!!

    Does this fibre powered broadband have any contention ratio ?

    Try restarting the modem. Installed mine today, bad first results. Did some reboots and got this.

    Must say I'm delighted after years of Vodafone rubbish and then back to Eircom 'Next Generation' Broadband (what a laugh) this is just brilliant.

    Been doing speed-tests all day with a smug smile on my face:D

    :eek: WOW how is UPC so fast and the rest of ireland trying to catch up??:eek:
    one would imagine that eircom being the main telephone crowd in ireland to have the fastest bb connection. i know upc is a cable company so the internet comes through that for them but still how??:confused:

    Well with eircom i'd imagine that a lack of government investment is to blame. UPC are a Dutch company and because they operate in several countries in Europe they probably have more money to invest in their infrastructure
