RTE switch to saorview!!

I'm after switching to saorview here and the reception is brutal. all today no satellite signal and it has to do with the weather i think!
Anybody else having problems with it? I never had any problems with the old analogue system but having a rake of problems now!
Honestly why would RTE switch to an unreliable means of transmission!! I hope they sort this out

Satellite? All you need is an aerial for saorview. And a digital signal gives you perfect reception even in areas were analogue gave grainy images.

That's because you still need a terrestrial aerial to view saorview, it isn't satellite. It's working grand for me. Great picture in comparison to the old analogue.

sorry i made a mistake in saying satellite. We;re using our old aerial and getting problems. I don't know if its location or weather! most of the time its fine but its very frustrating when it is bad! one night it froze for an hour

Once it rains I lose Saorview reception (I'm using antenna not a dish).

Why the hell can't your digital signal go through rain RTE ??

How is your RTE "HD"? The rest are SD and very soft pictures indeed.

It's still gone for me now. looks like the misses won't be watching eastenders tonite

is the antenna inside or roof mounted ? , if its roof mounted your masthead amp could be a VHF one or could be faulty , new antennas and UHF masthead amps are quite cheap and for less than 100 you could have the whole lot done including new cabling that would give a much better signal

ive noticed this aswell - during bad weather i lose the signal altogther also for some reason the signal gets jumpy at about 11pm every night.
is it related to the number of users or something - its almost like it cant handle the traffic during busy periods.

Saorview is the service, not the digital receiver. Most digital receivers can tune into saorview. If you never had a problem with the aerial before, then it's probably the type of receiver you bought. I'm using a small cheap set top aerial connected to a Triax digital combi receiver and I have no problem getting saorview.

the antenna is probably set up incorrectly , during clear weather getting a signal is easy enough but with rain and clouds it becomes harder for radio waves to reach every direction , a decent multi element UHF antenna on your roof and a masthead amp in the attic aswell as propper cabling (CT100) would see you right

Triax's digital receivers and combi receivers aren't the best really. They get the job done, but barely. Crap menu and very slow.

Reception was great and consistent with analogue.

ok thanks thats probably what it is then - im in an appartment block so cant stick an antenna outside. i got one sitting on my floor pointing out the window instead :pac: saves on getting upc anyways i switch over to freesat when it dies.
