I never said it was an excuse but there are a greater number of people suffering much greater hardships so if it's ok with you, I'll reserve my sympathy for those who need it most

    No problem.

Who are these people you speak of though?

I'm not too well off financially, but I've worked damm hard for what I've got!

Have to say, I'd do serious damage to anybody stealing anything I have.

Maybe they have that addiction disease I've heard about. Show compassion to the vulnerable.....

Seriously though never nice to have things robbed. You almost feel violated.

makes you think twice about leaving valuable s**t in your car, think I'll be extra cautious from now on

The main lesson to be learned from the OP's experience is not to post in AH when you are spitting mad because your property has been stolen and car damaged while you think you are having a peaceful family afternoon at the zoo.

God there's some sanctimonious, smart-arse blethering on this thread.

Cops in Ireland are HOPELESS. They have given up. That's why criminality is through the roof

And that says it all, I work, I save, I don't fkuc people over, I don't steal, I help when I can and I do my utmost to be a constructive member of society and not put any tension in the air around me.

Like most of the decent people I know and i have to say like 99% of the Irish people.

I am not a good person, or a nice person, just a normal person, these scum do not have any social responsibility, they just simply do not care.

Give a list of priorities to the average irish person on the street for the next general election and Law & Order is'nt near the top.We see that at every election time.

OP, I am really sorry to hear that this happened to you. What a horrible shock for you and your family. I can't understand why Dublin zoo don't have security/car park attendants on duty. It is the zoo car park. You didn't have a choice -you had to park there. It isn't as if you parked outside dodgy flats in a scary area and then were surprised to see evidence of a robbery.

What I don't understand is the posts from others which seem to insinuate that it is your fault for having valuable items in your car! It really is the end of the road when people just accept that having their car broken into is part of Dublin life.

It wasn't open back then afaik.

There's a lot of idiots here though talking crap about leaving valuables in your car. Even if your boot and glove box were empty scum won't know that until they get in and the damage is done. There's also a thread in another forum about it also happening on Chesterfield Avenue.

Yeah it's sh1t that your car was broken into :(

But if you hadn't left all that sh1t in your car there'd have been nothing to take.

Why would you leave all that stuff in your car  Seriously like.

    Yeah,
Anyone who leaves a car radio or a sat nav in a car is just asking for trouble?

Presumably they don't go around breaking into random cars hoping there is something valuable, they probably saw something they wanted.

Out of sight, out of mind.

The person is probably still in shock. Why dont you use a little bit of decorum in your posts.

I am sorry to hear that OP. Hopefully everything will be ok.

Firstly it's not part of Dublin life, it's part of modern life. And yes it's disgraceful and no people shouldn't steal but unfortunately the world is full of immoral morons.

Taking necessary precautions by locking your doors at night and being careful with your valuables is not accepting scummy behaviour, it's being sensible

how dare you call them scum. theyre a product of their environment. its not their fault

and other such liberal crap that tends to infest these threads

sorry to hear about the stuff, honestly starting to think that a good round of vigilante justice is the only thing gonna sort this crap out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,041 ✭✭✭Seachmall

People are constantly on about the "bleeding heart liberals", I've only ever seen one. Do they exist in the magnitude implied?

Ah here, can you quote a single post where anyone said anything vaguely similar to what you just claim they posted???

I'm not fan of do gooder pc sentiment either but there actually isn't any in the thread. The only thing people have said is that leaving valuables in your car, on view or not, in any neighbourhood isn't a good idea. They're not condoning what happened, just pointing out the fact.

    give it time though

or take a look through any of the other anti scum threads

    Yes unfortunately.

This is why so many undesirables seem to have the whip hand in this country.

They're entitled to everything they want, don't you know?

Kinda sickens me how much victim bashing is going on in here instead of scumbag bashing.

Sure it's stupid to leave important stuff in your car. Doesn't change the fact that the scumbags responsible are absolute gobsh!tes however.

If people didn't keep leaving valuable things in their car there wouldn't be a reason to break into them, no one said the scumbags are right. In other countries you can leave what you want in most places but alas not in Ireland.

exactly, its just good advice not leaving any valuables in your car that will attract scum like that who did that to the OP. no excuse for their behaviour, unfortunately happens so often now.

Thanks alot to all the posters who are normal moral people who have some bit of understanding left in them. I hope others learn from this and won't park there again like us.
I've come to the conclusion that in future, I will have to create an underground bunker in my garden to store all of my valuables each time I want to leave the house or go out in the car. Unfortunately, my tv and dvd player etc are on view through the sitting room window along with the entire contents of my house. Do people suggest not to leave these on view in case a thug sees them and decides to also have them for themselves?
If some people had bothered reading my post properly, you'd see that NOTHING was left on view in the car. So I left the valuables hidden away in the car, costly mistake but what kind of place is it now that you can't buy something in a shop, lock it hidden away in your car, bring your kids to the zoo for one hour and have to leave to get back to your car full of nothing? The kids were bawling and never want to go back to the zoo again.
It's either that or as above, you can't even leave your house anymore because yes they ARE breaking into random cars. They don't give a sh1t if stuff is there to take or not.
They were not actually reared by human beings.
Also, to whoever buys the telescope in it's black holder bag, the scratched 8 year old black I POD (full of my kids photos) and the 6 year old Garmin nuvi sat nav, I hope you're pleased with yourself. They mean alot more to us than they ever will to someone else given their age. You're almost as bad as the a**holes who stole them.
Don't forget not to drive around with your spare wheel on your car either....
