Just an update again on the game.

Love it so far. Chinese GP was epic. Started 12th and got up to 4th, ahead of Rosberg. DRS kicked in after a few laps and he was all over the back of me for ages. The long back straight I was most vunerable as the Williams top speed is rather pathetic. So in order to defend my position I didn't use my KERS during the entire lap, and used it all down that straight. He kept pulling up beside me before I used the KERS. Defended every lap for about 6 laps until he pit in. I responded and pit in the following lap in order to maintain my position. Was epic. Don't ever remember feeling so delighted with a result in any F1 game I've played (bar the rFactor mods :P)

Great game. Multiplayer time tonight I think! Finally got a handle on the controls.

Big improvement over last years efforts.
Sounds for a start are a lot better, f1 2010 engine sounds are simply terrible, downshifting was like a dog barking ffs lol.
This time they got close to nailing the sounds.
Physics and handling wise its a lot better but anyone looking for a hardcore sim look elsewhere, far too forgiving when you get out of shape, drive over grass etc but thats to be expected as they wanted this to sit somewhere between full on sim and arcade racer defpending on what aids you use.
ALL aids off as always for me with any game, when driven this way the game comes alive and the vastly improved handling and car feel shows its true colours and big improvement this time round.
Everything about the game is just better in every way.
KERS and DRS are nice features added to the mix of manual gear shifting,braking/throtte inputs while you try to be smooth with steering/brake/throttle.
As always a wheel is the only way to play, i plugged in my xbox 360 controller to my pc to see what its like, as usual its as to be expected nowhere near as immersive or anjoyable as wheel/pedals.
AI also have improved, thankfully the got rid of the silly and ugly bloom affect thus making the graphics a lot crisper and realistic looking.
Im getting 80-150 fps runnign ultra settings, smooth as butter great looking.
Overall id recommend it to F1 fans regardless of whether your used to hardcore sims or arcade racers.
Codemasters done a great job of imersing the user into the F1 world, while racing the game actually delivers an F1 atmosphere.
Its no hardcore sim but i personally have enough of them on my hard drive,F1 2011 is ten times better than F1 2010.
Very enjoyable racing experience in my opinion.

did they fix the pitting problem where you get held back until every other car is gone through and do the ai cars still dissapear when they get a certain distance ahead or behind? the single player was unplayable in 2010 becuae of those 2 problems.

Yes, they did! They pulled me out and I nearly crashed into Button in the pit lane :D

One thing I love about Codemasters is they sit down and listen to feedback. Nearly everything that was wrong with F1 2010 was taken on board and they've produced a great game that caters to almost everyone's needs :P

Selling for about 43 euro on thehut. Probably HMV is the best bet so, GAME and Gamestop are selling for €49.99

Got it today, I cant believe the graphics, they are much worse than last year which is unbelievable. Other than that its a good game.

Got it as well for PS3. Graphics are pretty woeful:( Started a career with Force India (really like the new paddock idea instead of zombie woman). Qualified 11th for Australia and as I was exiting the pits, the game decided to freeze for a split second and the graphics went mad:mad::mad: Finished the race in 5th after deciding on an early pit stop and an Alonso spin which stopped nearly half the field. Decided to play 2 player split screen and I had to turn the game off. It was like watching it being played on a PSP. They've got to fix the frame-rate issue

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,788 ✭✭✭Bsal

I got it on Amazon for €28 with free postage for the PC. Only thing is I have to wait till sometime next week for it to arrive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,391 ✭✭✭D2D

Someone on the F1 Forum on codemasters posted this vid. Look at the garage guy's head as it moves by and look at the fences/barriers and trees as they pass. This is the kind of frame rate problem that's happening

Im staying miles away from multiplayer tbh, destruction derby springs to mind.
As for being years since playing an F1 game, this is the best effort in years mate, you havent missed anything.

Just finished my first race with Force India in the rain. Limped to the finish line with no fuel in 11th after starting 17th.

Admittedly though I had to restart the race after realising I started on a dry race set up... absolute nightmare. Couldn't keep it on the track through slow or high speed corners. At least its realistic in that sense

Same happened to me with the fuel, even though it said optimal fuel usage:( Managed to finish 14th after running 12th for the last few laps

Was chasing down Kobayashi for 9th when I was told to switch to mix 1 to get a run at him. They didn't realise then that my fuel usage quickly went to -1 lap and didn't tell me to switch it back or to mix 3 when my overtaking attempts were futile. Luckily I'd a fair advantage over the other guys behind me but when the car started stuttering on the back straight it was edge of the seat stuff

Same thing happened me in Australia with the fuel usage. I was hanging on to 10th for dear life with 2 cars stuck on my gearbox.

Didn't realise that I was low on fuel, and ran out about 4 corners from the end. Finished 12th.

Loving the game though. The cars handle fantastically well, the wet conditions are really captured perfectly.

Also, the co-op campaign is a top feature.

I've found that the A.I in Instanbul seem to have crazy levels of grip? I'm about 1.5 seconds off the pace in both S1 & S2, and then 2 seconds quicker in S3?

Ok, I have played the game for about 2 hrs in total since saturday and I must say im loving it. Its packed full of detail and I like the idea of making mods to the car set up. Like I mentioned before, its prob 10 years since I played a f1 game:o
The game has crashed about 4 times for me so far ( I get a black screen & I must power off the pc and reset ) I only realised that my gfx card is not DirectX 11 compatible (Ati HD4800 series ) But for the most part it runs fine

I started the career mode with HRT. My best lap in melbourne is 1:35:o although when I first played the game I was 1:48 ish so im improving by the day.

Mmm I was playing yesterday and I thought the same. Had terrible trouble trying to match them in the first 2 sectors but they are so slow around the final 3 turns. Managed a 3rd place then. Barcelona is excellent. Car setup is essential on this, as it always is. Car slides around a lot and you take a lot of kerbs in the corner. Excellent track and a pleasure to drive around on in F1 2011. Think I managed a 5th in that one.

Played Monaco last night and got a penalty in practice after spinning the car into the barrier just outside the tunnel. Love the tiniest detail btw, for anyone who noticed the manhole cover in-game :P Anywho I got a 10 place penalty so I started 20th after having a terrible Q3 (traffic was just crazy, bad timing). Race itself was good enough, was up to 13th after 4 laps and stuck behind a Torro Rosso who defended his position really well. I was on Soft and not the super soft, stayed out for an extra 7 laps. Managed to come out in 9th in the end and take Alguesari for 8th on the second to last lap.

Not moving too fast through it as I started another season with Force India on my laptop too.

Multiplayer is great by the way. Ran into a bug where we had 23 human racers and 1 AI. Was very clean, just one small accident in the first corner of Spa. I started 14th and finished 7th so happy out :D

What level are people playing this at, played F1 2010, now on 2011 I still cant get into top 15 with someone like Force India, I know Australia lap like the back of my hand but no matter what I do Im well down! Im I just resigned to being a rubbish driver? During race mode Ill always end up spinning out because I just push too hard!

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,785 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

Im playing at hardest difficulty, ie legend AI all aids off, its the only way to play tbh.
I find it too easy to beat the professional AI with all aids off,Legend is the better challenge.
The game comes alive with every single aid off,its just your typical arcade muck with aids on.
Havent started a career yet, mostly doing GP,simply too little time and too many games.

I just dont get it, have it on Indermediate, Ive played lots of racing sims over the years no problem. WIth this I either end up crashing out or disqualified or down in 20th place! very frustrating, I cant be that rubbish at this surely?

You're playing with all aids off yeah? You gotta tweak your setups, or at least don't floor it out of a corner. I tend to gently ease off the gas and not brake as much entering a corner, and gently roll it out of the corner until I'm confident enough to floor it :P Of course it depends on your setups. If you have high downforce setups you can accelerate quicker out of the corners but it hurts your tyre wear and you got a slow top speed.

Sounds to me you're probably oversteering out of the corner too much.
I'm guessing you're just losing it halfway/near the end of the corner.

God I hate Monaco so much. I'm always clipping the barrier and the corner just before the tunnel I always spin it. Was set for 14th but got a 10 place grid drop for trying to spin my car back around :(

Then in the race was held up in traffic so much. Finished 15th so was disappointed.

Love Canada so so much though :D My favorite track to drive. Just getting through some R&D in P2 at the moment and just done a 1:12:554 on prime tyres. A full 0.355 ahead of the Button on option tyres

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,445 ✭✭✭forzacalcio

I think my issue is more or less that, I try to accelerate before I even exit the corner (Always the way I used to do it in Karting) I dont really mess too much with setups, maybe this is where Im going wrong I suppose. I just want to race. Ill give it a go later!

If you just want to race without fiddling around, turn on traction control at least :P

Love the new game, i love games that really reward you when you get "into the grove" (for lack of a better term, was taken aback at first seemed harder, and the DRS takes a bit of getting used to, but it's a very nice addition

Just discovered that selecting what I thought was an innocent option of "quit to paddock" so I could do an interview DNFs you from the race  Didn't even get to try Canada in race trim :(

Quite like DRS. I've started using Practice to test the limits of what type of corner you can take with it open so I can use it in quali, often to my detriment of spinning out quite spectacularly.
