i decided tonight THAT I CAN break 3 hrs in Berlin and i should be confident of it, why not?.

It's just a number* and once you're looking down at it, the sky's the limit!

    *A very small number I know ;)

I haven't quite had that revelation yet :(

But I'm going to have a go anyway :D

    Whats your game plan?

Well i didnt do a 5km swim at the weekend :)

Plan is to follow the 3 hr pacers, pure and simple. Won't be pushing on if i feel good like i did in Barca, just gonna wait and wait (last mile maybe) If i slip back i'll just make sure i get under 3'10 for London marathon 2013.

Good plan brian, let the pacers worry about the pace. That should help with the mental side. No need to look at the watch or think about how you are doing. Keep reminding yourself that 6:52 is not a fast pace for you.

    Good luck!

Cheers. Yep not only do i have cramps to worry about i also have the voice in my head telling me its ok to quit when its not working out. He can f*ck off for himself on Sunday :)

Tues 20th Sept, club track session tonight. Session was 8 x 600m starting every 3:10. I did 4 of them just to keep the legs ticking over. Times were 2'08, 2'06, 2'05, 2'05. Half mile w/u and mile w/d for 3 mls total. I'll be honest i didn't feel super tonight. No real bounce in the legs, but i think my body is only really in taper mode now.

I'm trying not to think about Sunday too much but it's proving quite difficult.

Tell that voice in your head that if you quit, you have to keep running marathons until you go sub 3. That'll shut him up :D

Last year in Barca when standing trackside, you were not terribly impressed at Alistair Cragg for dropping out of the European final. This year in the World final when things weren't going well for him, he could have done the same, but he stuck at it and finished. Alistair has kept his side of the bargain. Now it's your turn. :)

^ I just have to keep reminding myself of the sacrifices i've made for this race. Daegu being the big one.

I love the way my log has become one big group counselling session over the last few months :)

In hindight you were right to skip Daegu. The weather was utterly unbearable and would have scuppered your chances of a sub 3 marathon .Not to mention all the inevitable boozing (you can drink on the streets in Korea, so a big 640ml bottle of beer accompanied each of us on the subway to the stadium each day :D)

But for the love of God, do not do any Autumn marathons for Moscow 2013, Zurich 2014, Rio 2016. Spring marathons are your future from now on! :)

Yep the week would have been spoiled by having to run over there.

I've no plans for an autumn marathon next year cause of the olympics (gonna try do the great north run after a summer of 5k/10k's) I'll see about 2013 and beyond.

    Cheers, best of luck yourself.

Weds 21st Sept, 4 mls easy again in 35 mins (8'45) with the club. First mile was poor but ok after. Got 3 free good luck in Berlin pints after in the pub, christ i'm a lightweight these days. Felt like i'd 10 pints last night.

Got a clip off a wing mirror yesterday morning cycling to work at a set of traffic lights (i pulled up alongside a car just as it the lights changed). Bit of bruising only, could have been much worse. No problems for running on it.
