...I bought the thing on Day 1 with Zelda, and proceeded to buy nothing else for it for nearly a year until Metroid 3 showed up...

I did the same, bought it at launch with Zelda and Wii Sports or whatever it was, even queued up early outside Game like a plonker. It's had some great titles since then like Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Okami (worth getting even if you had the GC version), Little King's Story, Klonoa, Sin & Pun, Zack & Wiki etc. The motion controls didn't bother me since that was the whole point of the machine, when done right they were great to use. But the best thing about the Wii by far is being able to softmod it! :D

I was actually pretty keen on NSMB DS. It's the big, empty Wii version/port that irks me slightly. It's okay, but compared to say, Donkey Kong Country Returns, its mediocrity shines all the more. My Wii has seen a lot of usage this year. I guess it's better to be collecting for it at the end of its lifespan, where it's got a decent number of titles than being the poor guy who got it at launch, naively waiting for a tonne of games to show up on it.

I thought the Wii NSMB was absolutely superb. Wonderful level design with every level playing differently from the last. The DS game had really bland boring levels that didn't stand out while the Wii game every level was unique and introduced something new. It's up there with SMW and Mario 3 in my opinion.

I'd disagree wholeheartedly, it's limpfish compared to its older DS brother and DKCR a year later on the Wii, the latter of which was not only a good multi-player experience, but also a real game when you've decided to go it alone.

Hmm didn;t think there were people out there that actually preferred NSMB DS to the Wii version. I was utterly disappointed with the DS game and thought the wii version was one of the best platformers I ever played in single player. Multiplayer is fun as well until the later harder levels. Very few levels in the DS game distinguished themselves from the last in comparison to the Wii game that introduced new elements every single level and had way more variety.

I feel like we're talking about two completely different games. I agree there's less variety in the level art than its little Wii brother due to the obvious differences in processing power, but it's actually a game. The Wii version feels sparse and empty, and looks like repurposed art from the DS version.
I'd honestly state before my maker that I could make a better single-player platformer with my toes and a spare five minutes.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 53,267 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

It's not less variety in the art, it's less variety in the mechanics. Every level brings some new gameplay element or some twist on established gameplay elements. The DS game on the other hand rarely deviates or does anything different, only occassionally stepping out of it's safety zone and this made it a very bland game that really doesn't stand out at all.

I won Raiden III, 30.50 from ebay.fr, not too bad.
What is bad is that he only posts to France, so I have to wait and see how he screws me on postage, assuming he goes ahead with the sale :(

I also popped my new copy of Pokemon Stadium on the N64 to find it's all in French!
    I
    AM
    A
    MUPPET...

Probably Honeydew, more likely Beaker :(

Now to buy another copy and find a Pokemon Fiend who is also a francophile...

Finally got a replacement GB color case and a few tools, first time replacing a case i'm shocked at how easy it was although the chinese case was tough enough to get fit right! The start and select buttons are a bit irritating how they sit, but it plays perfectly. :)

Can i ask you: what operating system does this say it will work on? I got one a while ago but it wouldn't work on windows 7 despite my best(ish) efforts.

    cheers
yeah I want to make my own alright , and I used those pin outs , but oddly enough the it just doesn't output video .I've tried it with two different DIN plugs , 2 different c64s and re soldered it twice , but it doesn't work .Only thing that's been common each time is the specific phono cable I'm using , so possibly its a problem with that.

    WHAT?

Oh, and if you're asking what I think your asking, its the first one!

This is what Babelfish made of your statement,
"I speak a little French, by EC-that J' made French for the vat. There is the stage Pokémon one or two?"

And this is Google Translates effort!
"I speak a little French, by French-that I made for the tray. There is one or two Pokemon Stadium?"

I've a "havent tested it in years, may work" Megadrive 1(ebay sale with lovely stock photo) winging its way to me at the moment .Seemingly the whole lot bar RF cable, plus 2 controllers.
    99p plus a tenner postage.
Also he has to split the packages up in the post as the postage was more than he thought it'd be *.

    Place your bets people

result a: both boxes arrive once I replace the "missing" cable it all works
result b both boxes arrive, and I get a dead meg , but a working PSU and pads(not the end of the world as they'll be handy)
result c: both boxes arrive, the PSU is knackered but the meg works
result d: one box arrives ..the other 'lost' and I get a meg on its own
result e: one box arrives ..the other 'lost' and I get 2 pads
result f: both boxes arrive , its a megadrive 2.
result g: both boxes arrive , one contains a wooden megadrive , the other some bricks.
result h: there is no spoon , the matrix is real, I am the one
    result i: Wolftones/Atari jaguar

Until it arrives and I open the boxes I wont know ,and its state is in flux:
    Yes!... its Schrodinger's megadrive.

Queuing up like a plonker - lol very funny! I was probably in the queue with ya!

Having said all that, I eventually got my moneys' worth from the machine playing absolutely brilliant games like the ones mentioned, but also relatively obscure gems like Punch Out!!, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, Sonic Colours, Wario Land: The Shake Dimension, Ghost Squad and Kirby's Epic Yarn.

    Wii = A great console. Eventually ;)

I queued up for the Wii as well. Have to say queuing up was great fun and had some great DS multiplayer matches waiting for Smyths to open :)

I bought a megadrive 2 off a guy on adverts two weeks ago and he said the same thing, no RF cable has the boxes. when it came to posting he said he would post the boxes off the console and games seperataly to save postage.

week later megadrive 2 and games arrive, tried it with my RF cable and it doesnt work.

2 weeks later still no sign of the boxes. he sends me an email with pictures of the boxes. a quick google search on the first image of the megadrive 2 box and i find the pic on a site in the uk for a guy selling a megadrive. I didnt even have to google search the second image, it was the back of a box off a megadrive 1!

So he was lying in his ad about having the boxes and the megadrive 2 he sold wasnt working.

So, something good but relatively mainstream that Retr0 doesn't like.
