Finally got a replacement GB color case and a few tools, first time replacing a case i'm shocked at how easy it was although the chinese case was tough enough to get fit right! The start and select buttons are a bit irritating how they sit, but it plays perfectly.

It's not less variety in the art, it's less variety in the mechanics. Every level brings some new gameplay element or some twist on established gameplay elements. The DS game on the other hand rarely deviates or does anything different, only occassionally stepping out of it's safety zone and this made it a very bland game that really doesn't stand out at all.

I feel like we're talking about two completely different games. I agree there's less variety in the level art than its little Wii brother due to the obvious differences in processing power, but it's actually a game. The Wii version feels sparse and empty, and looks like repurposed art from the DS version.
I'd honestly state before my maker that I could make a better single-player platformer with my toes and a spare five minutes.

Hmm didn;t think there were people out there that actually preferred NSMB DS to the Wii version. I was utterly disappointed with the DS game and thought the wii version was one of the best platformers I ever played in single player. Multiplayer is fun as well until the later harder levels. Very few levels in the DS game distinguished themselves from the last in comparison to the Wii game that introduced new elements every single level and had way more variety.

I'd disagree wholeheartedly, it's limpfish compared to its older DS brother and DKCR a year later on the Wii, the latter of which was not only a good multi-player experience, but also a real game when you've decided to go it alone.

I thought the Wii NSMB was absolutely superb. Wonderful level design with every level playing differently from the last. The DS game had really bland boring levels that didn't stand out while the Wii game every level was unique and introduced something new. It's up there with SMW and Mario 3 in my opinion.

I did the same, bought it at launch with Zelda and Wii Sports or whatever it was, even queued up early outside Game like a plonker. It's had some great titles since then like Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Okami (worth getting even if you had the GC version), Little King's Story, Klonoa, Sin & Pun, Zack & Wiki etc. The motion controls didn't bother me since that was the whole point of the machine, when done right they were great to use. But the best thing about the Wii by far is being able to softmod it!

I was the poor, sad individual who you describe. I bought the thing on Day 1 with Zelda, and proceeded to buy nothing else for it for nearly a year until Metroid 3 showed up.

I didn't take to Zelda at all. I didn't like the Wii remote for it, and I thought the game was samey. Once it arrived, I didn't like Metroid Prime 3 all that much either as it made me motion sick. I got stuck in both Zelda and Metroid Prime 3 and never finished them. I bought Mario Galaxy a month or so after Prime 3 and thought it was good, but not as good as others would have you believe..... I pretty much gave up on the Wii then and got into my retro big time.

So my Wii went unloved for a very long time. I suppose I could have maybe tried Excite Truck at the time, and one or two others. I still think though I was suckered into the hype and I think it was a very poor system for a very long time, outside of one or two games here and there. If it wasn't for the Virtual Console I would have sold it, and I never sell my games or systems as a rule.

I actually ended up with a lot or resentment towards the Wii. I felt it was a waste of money. One major reason for this is I felt that Zelda would have been better with a control pad and I felt that I should have bought it on the GameCube as I would have enjoyed it more, and not bothered buying the Wii. I feel that the Wii version should have allowed player use the GameCube pad for the Wii version. I actually think that GC or Classic control compatibility should have been included in every Wii game (within reason). I hated having motion control forced upon me. But it was my own fault though, buying the Wii - I was suckered in, but....

2010 changed everything for me. The system finally came into its own and began churning out superb games month in, month out. Sadly, most hardcore gamers had moved on, and top titles like Monster Hunter Tri, No More Heroes 2, Metroid Other M, Sonic Colours and Sin & Punishment 2 went largely ignored. Such a shame. At least the hugely improved Mario Galaxy 2 and the super Donkey Kong Country Returns did better.

I bought a lot of Wii games at the beginning of 2011 and played non-stop Wii during the first 6-months of this year, up until around about July, when I took a bit of a break from gaming for a few weeks, before going back to retro gaming again.

The Wii then is a system that I have very mixed views over. It had an awful start, and it didn't really get going until late 2009-ish in my view. Its sadly a spent force now bar a few decent looking RPGs over the coming year. Its sad that it wasn't a better system with more classic franchises represented, and maybe some new core series as well. Still though, its had some great games on there released fairly late in its life-cycle which I will remember fondly in the years to come.

My Wii has seen a lot of usage this year. I loved it :eek: I suppose that had something to do with my nostalgia for the first one of the NES. Its easy but a lot of fun to play I think, looks great and has a lovely vibe to it. I love colourful games. It also had some great level designs, and I much prefer my Mario in 2D than in three dimensions.

Ordered Persona 2 for PSP a couple days ago, heard we're getting a better bundle over here but that one doesn't have an art-book either so I'm happy to do without the other bits and pieces...actually also bought the EU P3P for my gf the other day, after pinching the extras to go with my US version :P

It's also surprisingly easy. It's easy to save up 99 lives, but then when you boot up the game again you're back to 3 (like all modern Mario games) :mad:

Mario Kart DS, on t'other hand, is sublime.

Happy with that tbh, given NSMB and MK are 35 each in Gamestop, preowned.
I was getting Left 4 Dead 2, Blazing Angels 2 and FarCry 2 all for 15 for the 360 but the guy was taking way too long so I knocked it on the head.
