Now we know why Gordon Freeman is silent.

He googled the words 'peggy married with children naked' and stumbled onto a part of the internet nobody should ever, ever see. He hasn't spoken about it or anything else since.

So I decided for some strange reason about an hour ago that I could fix that mechanical Tomy toy.

Opened it up and isolated the problem. It was coming from the little mech box. One of the gears was after coming away.

Decided to take the mechanism itself apart to fit it.

Took off the top cover of the mech -

    BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    'JESUS ****ING CHRIST!' I yelped.

There was a really high tension coil which is what makes the whole thing work. When I took the cover off it wound back up on itself making an ungodly sound. I'm lucky I didn't throw the whole thing in the air.

After the fright subsided I saw the horror - about 15 gears. From big sizes to absolutely tiny ones which are a few mm across.

Not only do you have to figure out where they all go and how they interact with each other, you also have to somehow wind that high tension coil around a few of them. The gears aren't screwed in either. Their pegs just sit in holes. So they don't get their true strength until you put the lid on.

So you can't put the lid on without assembling it. But you can't assemble it without putting the lid on. The mind boggles.

I somehow managed to wind it around three of them, while simultaniously holding them all in place with fingers and THEN closing the lid down. (There's no way in hell you could possibly do this while also balancing all those other gears in place.)

It kind of worked. In that the gears would turn the dial. But it didn't work in any capacity where you could actually play the game. That would require ALL the gears in place.

This was either put together by a machine or some godlike entity. I am assuming godlike entitites don't assemble toys for Tomy.

So in that case it was a machine. A godlike machine.

Working fine for me in windows 7. Can't capture in s-video for some reason (might be the modified N64 cable I'm using) but in composite its fine. Captured some Rakuga kids from the N64 just there.

Nice one, I'll go on the hunt for one so.

Don't think machines can be god-like.
Unless they are already taking the forms of angels/bulls and impregnating virgins, then I could be wrong.

Although my Vectrex is pretty god like!

Of course, if machines do attain sentience they will become godlike in short order and we will be their slaves!
Slaves or mushy puddles of organic goo as they do away with us all together,
a technological singularity of the more final kind

Note to self - no more drunk posting. Anyway...

Look how sad my life is, I get Programmers to sign my Atari carts!! Part 2!!

    First up:

    IMG_20110923_214619.jpg

Q*bert, loose cart and sealed copy, signed by Tom Sloper!! Fair enough he was good enough to oblige my nerdisms, but I'm being polite by saying he was an ass.

    Next:

    IMG_20110923_214723.jpg

Winter/Summer/California Games, signed by Steve A. Baker!!! Now this guy is a gent, so so cool to talk with. Also filled me in on an Easter Egg in Cali Games, not even sure if it's known about. Apparently there are 'cig butts' in the Speed Skating game on Winter Games too??

    Ok, best for last imo!!

Missile Command loose cart, Missile Command sealed cart, and two label variations of Cosmic Ark signed by Rob Fulop!! Sweet as!!

    Part three coming soon.....:pac:

Missile Command. One of the few games to truly tempt me in to buying an Atari.

Down in the market today, picked up Nightmare Creatures 2, V2000, Soulblade and a nice copy of Philosoma, rental only version, still in the proper sleeve, all for the PS, match, and for a fiver.
Also got Terminator 2, Addams Family, Pugsleys Scavenger Hunt, Choplifter 3 and Jurassic Park, for the Snes and for 17, not a bad day overall.

Just back from the UK and did a bit of carbooting, spent £26 in total.

    IMG_0201.jpg

    IMG_0202.jpg
Those games & that PS1 cost £10 in total.

    IMG_0203.jpg
    £4

    IMG_0205.jpg
£2, came with a memory card, power cable and controller

    IMG_0206.jpg
and and Apple IIc for £10. There were tonnes of Megadrives too but I wasn't bothered. Couple of NESs as well but without cables.

Needless to say I'm happy with that stash, not so much with the ferry back though :P

Neo Geo Pocket stuff arrived this morning! Got the game but the console was too big to fit through the letter box so will have to go down to the depot and collect it. Hopefully it'll be there this evening as sometimes they won't let you collect it until the next day

    Wow!
I completely forgot how much Philosoma sucked! Very poor, four have been on the Snes not the PS, I had to play some Einhander just to remind myself that the PS could do shooters.

Nice work on the NGP stuff. Tis a fine little handheld. Just make sure the next purchase on your list is one of these, and that you stand right next to it when playing your NGP. :D

Haha, thanks! Actually found out something interesting about it. Apparantly I bought a slim version which was released late in the NGPC's life. It's a tiny bit smaller and lighter and supposedly has a slighlty sharper screen! Huzzah!
