    What a condescending comment!

Depends on your course, can she be used for experiments?

The whole 'first world problems' thing is very interesting. If you take that idea to its natural conclusion, nobody in the first world would be able to complain about anything. You have cancer? That's nothing, what about the kid in Africa with cancer and NO HANDS. Also, boards wouldn't exist. And neither would posting and complaining about 'first world problems'.

To the OP, if it's having this much of an effect on you, you need to play hardball. Answer in monosyllables if you have to, or not at all. Stare vacantly into space when she talks. Walk out of a room when she enters. Saying something to her face might make things worse, sometimes passive aggressive is the way to go.

Because in the vast array of problems that anyone could possibly ever have, this is right up there with cancer.

    Answer:

Tell her exactly what you described to AH in this thread. Problem solved.

Don't **** around with dropping hints and being a tool about it. Tell her and thats that. Maybe she will see the error of her ways and you'll actually have helped yourself and her in some meaningful way.

    The End.

/what did he get for Christmas?

It's a pretty tough position to be in, because all she's done is basically want to hang around with you. So it's hard for you to, as people suggest, turn around to her and say, I'm sorry but you sicken me, please get away from me.

I get the impression that you are the kind of person that couldn't turn around and hurt someone's feelings even if they do annoy you. I also get the feeling that you feel a bit sorry for her, which is why you couldn't keep up the ignoring thing. It's a fact of life that we're all going to have to deal with people we wouldn't necessarily surround ourselves with, but there can be a middle ground between shunning her and dealing with her waiting outside the door while you go for a wee.

I think an earlier suggestion is good, that when she comes out with her horsesh!t, call her on it. Not in a particularly aggressive way, but in such a way as to let her know that you see her crap for what it is. Also, be selfish when it comes to her - i.e., if you're sick of her and want a break, tell her that you need to study alone/not in the form for being in a group etc. I think it's better to gently hint than say straight out that you find her annoying. I think it's also more constructive and less hurtful to point out when she's being ridiculous, without being aggressive and exploding at her.

I wish you the best of luck, and wish there was a manual for the proper etiquette of these things!

No, but maybe you could get her phone number and kill two birds with one stone.

When she follows you to the computer room, let her see your boards username.

If she is as nosy as most women, she'll go through all your posts and find this thread. Put a picture of her in the OP just so there's no confusion who you're talking about.

Post from a computer in public?? You mad?! Someone might see.

    Unfortunately not.

Do you post in here much?

For me, this problem is affecting my college life. At the moment, touch wood, I don't know anyone with cancer or another life threatening disease. If I did, then of course this wouldn't be top of my list of worries. But for the moment it is.

You still haven't offered any advice regarding my predicament. Not going to? No worries.

Yes, that's exactly what he was saying. That this is right up there with cancer. Well done spotting the ludicrousness, truly. Excellent job. We need more posts like this!

If it's any consolation, I took no pleasure in posting that as I've got absolutely nothing against you as a boards poster! At least you took it in good spirit.

I know this means the same as when we say 'knock on wood', but I still can't help going all Beavis and Butthead whenever someone says it. :D

Heh heh heh, she said, "touch wood." Heheh.

Judging from the posts here you have three options:
1-Be blunt, just tell her your tired of her lies.
2-Let her down lightly and confront her in a non-aggressive way and try to be nice.
3-just ignore it and carry on with your life.

Seriously, stop moaning. Nobody said it was "right up there with cancer". They just pointed out the idiocy of the line "first world problems, eh" and cancer was used in the example. Stop trying to be above everybody. It's a light thread with a little bit of seriousness thrown in.

This girl sounds lonely, lacking confidence and a little socially awkward. But she is annoying. I've met people like that and it can be really draining to be around them but you still feel sorry for them. So it's difficult to know what to do since you have no choice but to face them every day.

Another poster on an unrelated thread has come up with a way for you to make yourself unpleasant for her to be around

This would be my preferred method.

Awkward. She's probably not a bad person, just really annoying and lonely so clings on to you. Your best bet may be to lie (VERY obviously) whenever she comes out with an outrageous lie. You can do it in a joking way so there's no bad feelings, but it clearly lets her know you know she's talking out of her bum.

When all else fails, you always have the Falcon Punch to fall back on.
