I couldn't care less what Cluxton does after he wins an All Ireland for Dublin so long as he keeps doing it.

Best Dublin keeper ever...best goalie to ever play GAA in my opinion.

You're probably still a bit giddy from yesterday so I can understand the excitement but let's not get carried away with statements like that.

Yep, he was amongst the first few players introduced onto the stage. Des Cahill announced them in groups of 4. He was in the first group. He wasn't exactly turning cart wheels on the stage, but he looked more relaxed than he did yesterday. When it was all over, I saw him & his good friend Sam Maguire, posing with fans for pix.

He was laughing and jostling with Eamonn Fennel when he came out. Was singing the chorus of "Sing All Our Cares Away" with Kevin. Looked in great humour.

Eamon Fennel was interviewed on Off The Ball earlier.. He said he thought Cluxton went off the pitch to gather himself.

Cluxton was there this evening, and the fans gave him a welcome worthy of a hero. Cries of "Stevo" rang out a good half-hour before the whole thing got underway and when he was called out by Des it just went off the hook altogether. Far too much of this was made already but he definitely appeared to be in much better form, even some of the sports photography company photos (e.g. inpho.ie, sportsfile) have him looking in great humour with a smile from ear to ear. I think it's a little bit of everything people are saying here that had him appearing to be a bit off yesterday - finally succeeding, being the man to kick the last point, being anxious/camera shy, being notoriously private, being the type of guy who comes to the pitch an hour early to practice kicking, it all just came together and he did this thing. As said earlier - he could have done whatever the hell he liked but he's still a hero :D

Defenitely the best keeper in gaa history. Great shotstopper, dominates high ball around the goal, brilliant footpasser, brilliant at kickouts & kicks frees.

How anyone could say there was a better keeper is amusing to me.

I be first to admit as Corkman I always taught Cluxton was tad overrated.

But by god this year he was just unreal.

He comes across as very nice fella if I am honest, no bull****..

Its things like that people remember, in the long run people will admire him for that.. I know I will, you cant beat the humble fella at end of day.

In Cork you only have to look at Jimmy Barry Murphy, never went on about how great he was, never wanted attention and if you ever went up to him and say he was great player he shrug and never wanted the limelight...Hence why he is god in our parts.

No doubt Cluxton will be same to Dubs..

I love the clip of Ciaran Carey after he scored a winning point (Or was it an equaliser?) against Clare in 1996. He is running back to his position without any antics. Nowadays, players are always pumping the air for the smallest things. But the way Carey reacted that day commands so much more respect

After Kevin McMenamin scored his goal, his main reaction was to run back and gesture to his team mates to keep up the momentum, no funny business, just business.

You mustn't have seen too many keepers then ;) He is a very good keeper but he has had some kamakazie moments over the years.

Billy Morgan is one to come to mind, was a superb keeper.

Connaughton from Westmeath would also be another, Charlie Nelligan etc.

    Come on,
You pick out some great keepers and no mention of John O'Leary (cyanophobia). Your just in denial about this. Cluxton has brought the job to a new level. Something none of the others came near doing.

Also I listened to experts all year who said your stuck if you need your keeper to take frees. Spot on, stuck with Sam!!!

Nah mate, think your just in denial about a dub been the best ever keeper seen as you go back through nelligan and Billy morgan but no mention of paddy cullen or john O'leary.

The old keepers job was to save things that were going under the bar (cluxton saves things going over the bar) and from kickouts to boot the ball as hard as they could into the middle of the field.

Its totally different these days. Keepers are far more than just there to block goals and boot kicks into the middle.

The closest thing to a kamikaze moment with Cluxton I can remember is when dublin played kerry in a semi a few years back and Cluxton misplaced a footpass late in the game to a Kerryman. It was a mistake not a kamikaze moment but it was just so weird to see Cluxton make a mistake it stuck in my memory.

By the way I'm from Kildare and was cheering on Kerry in the game but I know class when I see it and Cluxton is a cut above any keeper past or present in GAA. Would have said that two years ago and this year has proved it beyond doubt.

Look at my post, the words "etc"... Yes O'Leary can be added to that, as can the lad from Roscommon who was over at United for trials but picked GAA.

Over 35 years of watching GAA and yes Cluxton is a top keeper, on a par with the best, but not the best ever keeper.

Gay Sheerin is the Rossies guy you are talking about.

Your entitled to your opinion and that's all I say.

I wouldn't pick one above the other.

For nerve (last Sunday) and the ability to place a kickout I would put Cluxton up there.
Nelligan would be there for sheer consistency, longevity and success.
Morgan also a top again for his ability to distribute the ball.
Curran as I said was a top stopper and a head the ball :)
O'Leary also for his cool head and consistency, something that is critical for a keeper.
Connaughton also for his consistency and shot stopping.

Well thats just a cop out, besides Cluxton has consistency, longevity, shotstopping ability and is also something of a head the ball.

Seriously he also has brilliant aerial presence, I've never seen him caught out when he comes for a high punch out. He's extremely brave.

A head the ball who hides down the tunnel when his team wins the AI????

Listen if you want your love-in with Cluxton thats fair enough, its my opinion, you obviously don't take others opinions on board so thats sound.

By head the ball I meant his frequent roy keane style verbal lashings to his back line whenever they concede a score from play.

Your opinion is that Cluxton defenitely isn't the best keeper of all time but hes on a shortlist and you don't know who is top of that shortlist.

Is there anyone else who is on the shortlist who defenitely wasn't the best keeper of all time?

Afaik the Legendary Mick O'Connell never stayed with the Kerry team to celebrate any All-Ireland they won, and was back on Valentia Island while the rest of his team mates were still celebrating in Dublin. Seems like Cluxton is on the same mindset as Micko was, and in fairness to the man if that's what he wants to do, then his wishes should be respected by everybody else. Fair play to him.
