how do we know when out meetings are?
And when we have to go in?
Very confused and nervous about all of this....

also, with the TCD web portal, if we've paid using epay do we still need to register?
    Thanks!

    realised I can't log on until I register anyway...sorry :)

the timetables for us freshers are in our orientation packs, you can turn up whenever during the day as long as you're not missing anything important

When you attend registration, you'll be given a username and password that you can log on to portal with. Your course should have specific meetings etc. during Freshers week for you to attend.

You should have a timetable in your orientation pack specific to your particular course such as Sports tour, course meeting, registration, etc. these are compulsory . There are also talks on everyday @ 1 in the arts building on topics such as dealing with stress and making the most of college.

You can reasonably assume everyone is in the same position as you; confused  and nervous  .

Whatever time you decide to arrive, make sure you're in plenty of time for your compulsory meetings.

    See you at college :D

P.S. I'm a fresher too, don't think that came across that well :pac:

Looking forward to seeing everyone flock over to me at the Judo stand tomorrow to sign up to the club!!

    I'll be there!

We've had a great day at the Judo stand today - signed up a good chunk of people, mostly beginners, with a good male:female ratio. I even got to meet PurpleFistMixer and Feargal05!

Doug Cartel, the sneaky bástard, took a photo of the stand just as I was stealing sweets from the Voice for the Voiceless homeless people charity society.

Feel free to drop over and say hi if you see me at the stand, even if you have no interest in signing up to Judo!

Edit: Doug Cartel posted the photo over at this thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=74487526

I don't think Freshers week is as easy as what's made out. :P The only people I really got a chance to talk to were people running the societies, and I couldn't go anywhere tonight because I don't know anybody.

What do other people usually do?!

Holy crap, we totally forgot about the shy people meet-up. If you want we could meet up tomorrow.

Well, sure. There are a couple of things I'd like to go to tomorrow, but I can't really go to any clubs or pubs at night on my own. :p

Ah don't worry about it too much, Freshers' Week is never all that easy for people who don't know anyone. You should try talk to people at the course meetings that you'll have throughout the week though. And if there are any events for the societies that you joined you should try go to them too.

Thanks. Only have one course meeting but am planning to head to loads of society events... there aren't a whole lot on today so hopefully things will pick up from tomorrow.

Signed up for University Challenge Soc today, managed to persuade a few other friends to aswell. Looks quite good, a fortnightly general knowledge quiz and an aim to get on the BBC in the coming years. Apparently TCD have been on it before but get crushed, that's what I've heard anyway.

    Anyone else join/plan on joining?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,318 ✭✭✭gavmcg92

Wasn't in for too long today but I will be in for good bit tomorrow. Message us on here if you want to meet up, I'll be around.
Gonna head over to Judo to talk to our fellow Boardsie, Troll, as well :P

EDIT : I thought I would list what I have joined so far :P

I'm falling into the same trap of joining everything that I am asked to XD. List so far is Rifle Soc, Fencing soc, Hist (obviously not going to miss a chance to meet Hugh Lourie). Hopefully I can keep it at that but I am not so convinced!

Are there no freshers packs this year? I'm used to getting my free goodies :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 281 ✭✭NSNO

Absolutely dead on my feet. Just got home, was far too tired for Calvin Harris. Was never really pushed to go see him anyways. Also, my wallet hurts too. Joined far too many societies!

The Comedy Colours Debate was absolutely brilliant, I was in tears laughing for the whole 2 hours or so. Thanks to the Hist for the free beer too. I may have somehow managed to get three....
Going to head in a bit later tomorrow. Anyone know what's going on? Did I hear talk of a Phil pub crawl?

Yeah, I've fallen into the trap of joining everything I stand close to. :p Can't do any harm though - have joined about 12 so far and there are 4 or 5 more I'm planning to check out. No point regretting not joining something for the sake of €2!

I'll be around tomorrow (or all week!) too, so if anybody's in the same boat (alone :p) or, like me, doesn't want to go to evening events alone... drop me a PM.

I'm alone too :P guessing your not in halls either, sucks that they all probably have their own little groups of friends when us people who had to work hard looking for somewhere to live just walk around only talking to the people at the stands!
Yeah im the same, wanted to do something tonight but i don't know anyone since i only arrived in dublin yesterday :P dont wanna be the weird guy who hangs around a bar on his own! XD

Yeah, it must be difficult to *avoid* meeting people when you live in halls - am jealous!

I suppose you would be one of the many guys hanging around on your own, but when you're surrounded by groups of people that's not hugely reassuring. :p I don't fancy going to a bar or queuing for clubs, etc. alone either.

Bold are ones I've joined, italics are planned. I also plan on joining the Digital Arts and Dance societies. Although I'm easily persuaded, I'll probably end up joining things if people come up to me, all 'you need to join this!'. =P

Plus the ones above, I've joined:

    Engsoc
    TES
    Horse Racing Soc
    Rifle Club

    Any other recommendations?
