Oh, and interestingly regarding the conversation from before the Sky Sports 2 HD on Lensman's image is under Astra 2B rather than Astra 2A.

I have the Aldi 500g hooked up and it works well. One problem I have is when I look at the list of recordings, the titles on them are completely different from what I actually recorded:confused:. I have discovered what the box is doing: If I record Prime Time on RTE 1, and am watching the News on BBC 1, the box will record RTE 1 ok, but the title of the recording will come up as BBC News!!!!. Anyone got a fix.

    Anyone?

Yes I think my box has a touch of this also, (I am using a different HDD so I wouldn't hold that responsible). I think it only happens when you record on a Terrestrial channel while watching a satellite channel at the same time (or vice versa). I presume you are running on the same Firmware as me (V2.14B4) in which case the fix might be to upgrade to the latest Firmware (15B5).

    That should do it?

    Anyone?

Also just wondered if anyone is experiencing network dropouts while using the patched firmware to connect to a 'remote server'!

Im using the 2.15 b5. trawled the tinternet to see if theres a new version but nothing seems to be showing.

Seems to randomly disconnect while using newcamd and having the auto connect ticked in network properties appears to be of no use at all with the only fix being to toggle power on and off.

Anone else with the same problem?

I was running the latest firmware up until today and the problem was still there.

I'm beginning to think the whole process of using other peoples channel files is a bit of a non runner,...it seems that other box specific data such as network, timer & harddisk settings are also being bundled along with the channel file & we could end up with a lot of clone type boxes which are a duplicate of the original box that the channel file came from,...we need a way of backing up channel files (only) so we can use them without writing over the settings of other boxes....also correct me if I'm wrong but if I upgrade to the latest firmware 15B5 I belive this will erase the channel settings on my box & I'll have to start the whole tedious process again from scratch,..

Obviously that depends on what channel list/firmware you use so I don't think its a non runner at all. The lists i put up are the firmware in its factory state + the FTA channel list

Yes, but surely at least that application you're using on the PC has the ability to save a channel list even if the box can't do it. i.e. load dump file into app, export channel list, load new firmware into app, import channel list into the new firmware. It's also possible that one of those options on the box's firmware page could help us out.

so to be sure of getting a clean channel file from a box we would have to remove all unique box specific settings we may have entered into the box first before backing up the channel file,,...

Pretty much, you could download a stock file like mine, use the editor to get the channels into your preferred order and then make a back up or share with others .

are you answering tony ? what application ?...

Is there an application to manage the channels? Or do you have to use the box itself?

    That alieditor application

edit: surely you set up all the favourites using that rather than the box?

I found that the Ali editor of limited use,..most of the work has to be done via the remote,..when I used the editor to build my channel file it did'nt save the FAV menu names & I had to rename them via the remote because they were still listed as 1 to 8 when I loaded the file to the box,...the ali editor is a generic editor not just for the ariva,...see here about how it's used on other boxes.

I'm using the latest firmware update - 2.15b5. What I also notice if you are recording a DTT channel, when you press Info you get no info. Same happens when recording a sat channel and going to another channel on the same TP, you get no info.

Okay, preserving your channel list across a firmware upgrade:

Dump your current firmware using the Dump option on the USB Upgrade screen
Upgrade to new firmware using the allcode+bootloader option on the same page
Put back in your channels using the userdb option, selecting the dumpfile from above

This worked for me BUT I lost the names of the favourite groups. The groups and their contents are still there.

There could be many ways to skin this cat. I would guess in particular that one of the options may flash everything except the userdb which could make things easier. I also can't guarantee that it'll work for everybody or even that it's worked 100% for me.

    I'm really considering picking up one the Ferguson receivers, just have a few questions regarding them;

I know the satellite feed has a now and next EPG but does the Irish DTT channels have a 7 day guide the same as certified Saorview receivers?

Can channels be organized in any order? For example can I have the Irish channels as 1,2,3 ect. followed by the BBC's?

I read a lot of the thread (not all granted as there are a lot of pages!) but it seemed there was confusion over the channel organization, thanks for your reply though!

I see that my sky+ box has 2 feeds from the dish - does it need both to function properly? I was wondering if it would be possible to use one feed for sky+ and one for the Ariva?

The ariva needs one dish feed and an aerial feed , the sky + needs two feeds to use the full recording functionality. Its kind of a strange question as if sky + worked with one feed why would the box have two?

    use 2 for sky+

just run another feed from your lnb to the ariva.

To be fair,.. this thread has become very long & disjointed which makes finding relavent information more difficult,..we are all still learning about the 120 & what it can & can't do,..perhaps we could start a "HOW TO" for the Ariva 120 combo,..I have used lots of stb's in my time but those boxes had a huge amount of technically gifted owners & so the knowledge base grew quickly,..there are polish sites dealing with the 120 which seem to be ahead of the posse but we have the language barrier to deal with so they are of little use to us,....my main box is the dreambox800HD & I don't have the 120 combo connected a lot,..I do set it up once & awhile to check out a few ideas I might have but thats the extent of my dealings with it.

Recommend you buy from local, Irish based supplier, satellite.ie aka Tony, who has given much support to all on this particular thread
