What has happened to vampires?

I'm referring to films of course. A lot of the vampire films over the last few years always have something along the lines of a well-groomed, whiny American teenager who becomes a vampire because he's been "misunderstood" in school. Also, teenage girls seem to love these new age vampires.

Whatever happened to the crazed, hideous, uncompromising, almost psychopathic vampire who terrorised film goers for decades. I'm aware the early Dracula films are a bit tame by today's standards, and there is not much of a scare factor - but the main character, the vampire was always something to be feared. Now, vampire films are just crap and seem to appeal to teenage girls.

    Well Twilight happened.

Even underworld had bad ass vampires. Not whiney teenage vampires...

I blame Buffy too. Emo vampires ahoy. Shít I remember one episode where they had Dracula in it and oh god... Another brooding emo, whose arse of course she kicked.

I'd like her to try similar avec this guy http://cinemasights.files.wordpress.com/2009/10/dracula1992-dracula.jpg

    Creepiest Dracula ever IMHO.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

I don't see why people hate Twilight so much. I watched about half an hour of one of the movies a while ago. It's just like Dawson's Creek, or the OC (or Beverley Hills 90210... though I'm too young to remember if that was **** or not).

Take out the supernatural stuff and you're just left with another bog-standard teen drama. What's all the fuss about?

Well, those type of books are on trend for teenagers at the moment and therefore the movies will sell well.. so of course they're going to make them! This trend will fade away like all trends do (it already is fading, instead dystopian type novels are the big thing at the moment and some of them will be made into movies in the next few years)

I've never understood why vampires always look like they spent ages getting ready to go out when they can't even see what they look like in the mirror.

In my opinion, there was only ever one truely great vampire movie- The Lost Boys!

They have to look just right. There's a lot at stake.

    I blame Angel myself.

I'm surprised no one has said "vampires suck" yet.

Bram Stokers dracula is my favorite book. How something so dark and scary can become so gay is beyond me.

You shut your filthy mouth she'd kick their arses backwards! Like you're so great, let's see you be the slayer, AND go to high-school. High-school is hard.

I wish everyone would stop saying those hideous Twilight books are about Vampires, they're not. They're about Mormon sparkle fairies.

Damn straight, especially when your High-school happens to be right on top of a hellmouth.

Because it gave vampires a serious case of the ghey.

Vampires are also meant to be seductive and alluring... Miriam Blaylock from Whitley Strieber's "The Hunger" was the most badass vampire I've ever read about. Twilight is dog piss in comparison.
