What has happened to vampires?

I'm referring to films of course. A lot of the vampire films over the last few years always have something along the lines of a well-groomed, whiny American teenager who becomes a vampire because he's been "misunderstood" in school. Also, teenage girls seem to love these new age vampires.

Whatever happened to the crazed, hideous, uncompromising, almost psychopathic vampire who terrorised film goers for decades. I'm aware the early Dracula films are a bit tame by today's standards, and there is not much of a scare factor - but the main character, the vampire was always something to be feared. Now, vampire films are just crap and seem to appeal to teenage girls.

    Creepiest Dracula ever IMHO.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I don't see why people hate Twilight so much. I watched about half an hour of one of the movies a while ago. It's just like Dawson's Creek, or the OC (or Beverley Hills 90210... though I'm too young to remember if that was **** or not).

Take out the supernatural stuff and you're just left with another bog-standard teen drama. What's all the fuss about?

Well, those type of books are on trend for teenagers at the moment and therefore the movies will sell well.. so of course they're going to make them! This trend will fade away like all trends do (it already is fading, instead dystopian type novels are the big thing at the moment and some of them will be made into movies in the next few years)

I've never understood why vampires always look like they spent ages getting ready to go out when they can't even see what they look like in the mirror.

In my opinion, there was only ever one truely great vampire movie- The Lost Boys!

Vampires are also meant to be seductive and alluring... Miriam Blaylock from Whitley Strieber's "The Hunger" was the most badass vampire I've ever read about. Twilight is dog piss in comparison.

Dog p1ss serves a useful purpose in marking the dog's territory and sending signals to other dogs. Twilight on the other hand serves no useful purpose.

The only emo vampire in Buffy was Angel, because he had a soul. The rest were all evil and want to kill you.

The weird little girl in the Swedish version of Let the Right One In - now that was a vampire! Interview with the Vampire was excellent, the Queen of the Damned is a dog turd.

Twilight is Dawsons Creek with teeth. But Buffy started the rot.

In fairness Gary Oldman did make a great Dracula. Except for the bits when he looked like Glenn Close.

Not at all...Anne Rice was preening up vamps long before Josh Whedon did Buffy.

I want wretched creature vampires, ones that rip peoples throats out and explode or melt when sunlight hits them, proper ones, not twinkly emo over possesive Abercrombie model looking ones.

Nosferatu, Dracula, The Lost Boys, From Dusk Til Dawn, 30 Days Of Night, Blade (especially Blade 2), Let The Right One In, these are proper vamipre movies. Twilight can foooooook right off. between its dodgy Morman values, ridiculous versions of vampires and its stars (why does Kirsten Stewart have a permanent look on her face like she's trying to remember if she left the iron on before leaving the house?) its a bag of sh1te.

+1. Dracula in the original form had no issue with sunlight either. Quite happy to wander about in it. Crosses only pissed him off. He'd have Buffy as a midnight snack before he went off in search of a real woman. He'd make short work of Lestat while he was at it. Ya gotta love the whole turning into wolves, mist and plagues of rats for shíts and giggles.

That said the Stoker book is very dated and odd. Great elements in it, but film made him as a character IMHO. Especially the first Nosferatu. Herzogs version is proper creepy even though done on the cheap.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Pretty creepy. But not all of the vampires in Buffy were emo:

And she had a fairly tough time killing him.
