Irish people have taken it without much if any response for years. The corruption, the lies, then a "new" government that continues on with the same practices. A servile government that obviously does not work for the Irish people.

Historically it has taken a lot before the people of this country finally snap. The question is.. What will be the last straw?.

I honestly believe the next budget will push so many people into the red that we'll have a mass revolt. As I've said before; the last budget was an election budget and with the forthcoming budget people will revolt. There's only so much people can take.

Property tax:- that will start off a 100 E a year, and then like what happened in the UK will rise over the coming years (sneakily), water rates (that will require a water meter, more euros) septic tank (that requires a "one off registration fee of 50 E" but will have to be re registered every few years!!! (Real irish that wan) not to mention if they decide to tell you, you need to change your septic tank or make adjustments (untold euros) 3/4/5 (who knows?!) more years of budgets taking 3-5 billion in cuts each time, and now the moment we've all been waiting for, another stealth tax, A Radio licence.... They are taking the Irish people for gob****es... And the IMF must be laughing, Just give the Irish government a pat on the head and a gold star for raping the Irish people, every twist and turn of the road.... If this isn't the final straw, I dunno what is...

This stuff is funny. We're overspending by 15billion a year, just as well the Germans are paying for it or we'd be feeling some actually pain and not just doing a lot of moaning.

Revolt In Ireland won't happen. The students are too wealthy and apathetic, the old people can't move fast enough and the rest of us don't really want the hassle of setting up and alternative to democracy.

Going onto the streets to stop FF giving a blanket bank guarantee in 2008 would have been a good idea. Because agreeing to cover banks debts when you have no idea how much they are was a terrible idea - then and now. Though we as nation did vote them in 3 times and it wasn't difficult to notice they were an inept corrupt bunch. Right now we get to 'enjoy' the fruits of that decision and no amount of protests will make things go back in time.

How do you think taking to the street would fix anything now? What are the steps we need to follow?

Nothing will be the last straw. The Irish people have the mentality of ostriches, they'll just bury their heads in the sand in the hopes they personally avoid what's coming, if they do get hit in the budget they'll say "it could have been worse" and so on and so on.
Politicians are only laughing at the gombeen working class..they'll continue to rape us of our hard earned wages to further fuel their buddies and their own lifestyles at the cost of thousands of lives...
Think I'm exaggerating? How many lives could be saved if Bertie had reined in public sector wages/pensions, state/semi-state owned CEO's, bonuses, the admin staff in the HSE?
We're talking billions of €s wasted and no one lifts a finger. Not even myself I'm ashamed to admit.
We're a complete joke of a nation and it's no wonder other nations ridicule us.

We have airports. They are open. Planes have been invented. You can use them.

You are free to leave the country AT ANY MOMENT if you are unhappy with your life. Do not live your whole life in a country you don't like. You only get one life.

You can of course stay and moan on Boards for the rest of your life either. Your choice eh.

There still seems to be a division put between the public/private sector due to this croke park agreement.

it is wrong that the former ministers and anyone else retires gets a massive pension which seems to be immune to cuts for a country that's actually broke,i do think if those in power could bother their backside instead of looking after their own,could introduce some form of tax on these pensions.

The benefit of the last election it did rid some of the traditional names we where used to seeing in the dail so i don't think there will be any independent holding up the budget so they wont get an hospital/road/funding for their county.

The problem is as well the gov is placed in a situation left by the last shower,mixing in the cost of living it seems inevitable that benefits will be cut due to the amount spent in the welfare department even though during the good times the last gov for some odd reason decided to increase payments.

Prime time did a good look at what could be cut,such suggestions where numbers in pub sec and means testing child benefit.forward to 18 mins-

Can I just say about the banking gaurantee when it happened in sept 08. I was extremely very busy with work. That was my life really - just work. And more work. I didn't understand what that bank guarantee was until last year. My fault really. I didn't pay attention to the news nor did I take time out to learn and understand what was happening around me. I sleepwalked right into the mess. I'm sure many others too. Looking back to 08 and 09 conversations with people would been about the weather, the weekend, other people, etc whereas now days conversations with people are mainly about the recession, bankers, developers, politicians, the bank guarantee. Many people did not understand that guarantee and what it meant until it was too frigging late.
