You cant really say anything negitive about a forum, mods, the state of things on boards etc without it getting closed.

It has always been the same sort of vibe in AH since I've been posting here (2005 the little reg date tells me) so I'm not sure how I missed this golden period of enlightenment which occurred sometime between Aug 2010 and now.

If you feel the forum is lacking an intellectual vigour or the kind of hard hitting topical debate of Newsnight or Q&A then start a thread that will show us the error of our ways. I was the author of the last thread on this matter.

I've seen a noticeable improvement since then on topics - more numerous and varied discussions and a larger proportion of posters who seem able to have a mature discussion when the topic is seen as a serious one.

Still though, too many people with smart quips or an answer for everything. No harm in a joke or a bit of banter but to have a 40-reply thread in which 20-30 posts are taking the piss really is poor.

Such is life, however, doesn't stop me using AH - I just carry on and ignore the stupid thanks-whoring jokey quips, and I've noticed a lot of pisstaking posts that are just unoriginal and unfunny are actually not receiving any thanks, sometimes, which is good.

Like I say, no biggie to me any more but everything in moderation. Nice to see a serious thread with a few good-humoured jokes than a thread full of jokes where a serious conversation can't be had for all the wasted space.
