Can you register without paying fees?

Can you choose and register your classes but not complete the 10th step and just pay this before the end of registration?

    I just did...

    I just did...

    Hurray! Thank you :)

And you're definitely registered for the classes that could be capped? Trying to organise my brothers registration and my parents don't have the money just yet but some of his classes are capped and he doesn't want to miss out.

I didn't have any capped classes but I'm pretty sure that's the situation alright! Sure there will be plenty of people waiting on grants who won't have paid! :)

Is this true? I thought it was changed to everyone pays the 2,000. Can anyone clarify before my brother goes and pays his fees

I went looking and couldn't find out exactly how the €500 less is taken, whether it's straight through the college or having to claim tax relief on the second child. Best bet would be to give the fees and grants office a call, have a look at this thread too there's a few links that might be useful.

If there's 2+ in the family going to college one pays 2000, the rest pay the reduced rate of 1500.
Think I'll pay mine next week, it's painful enough handing it over might as well keep it for a while :pac:

From what I've researched it has been changed. But you can claim tax relief on the second child's fees

I rang fees and grants office. It's 2093 per student. However if you bring the receipt to the revenue office you can claim back 20% of the fees for the second student in the family. Also, you can pay just 1093 before the end of september (not sure of the exact date) and then you have until February to pay the balance. And yes, you can register without paying the fees.

I tried ringing the office several times earlier but they never replied so I e-mailed them instead and still waiting for a response.

Am quite anxious over it now as I never would have returned to finish my degree if I thought I would have to pay full amount (i.e €7,410)

When is the limit to pay your fees? Asin last day that you can? Or is there one?
As in I'm waiting on a grant but I might not get confirmation until next month? Is it enough to just wait til I get confirmation/rejection before I pay? Which could be in October or even November!

The woman told me that you have until the last week of september.

Technically, graduation day. They'll hound you for a while but that's all.

So will I just have to pay then? Waiting on a grant won't mean anything?

    Ugh I hate fees....

I've never gotten a grant so I'm not sure but I vaguely remember a friend saying that they paid their fees and then were reimbursed when the grants came in. But I could be entirely wrong!

Spot on. Or at least it was for 1st Year anyway, I sent them an email asking if we can do the same this year too. Waiting on a reply though at this stage it'll probably be next week by the time they do

Is there any way to wait and not have to pay though?
Both my brother and I have to pay and I can barely afford the 2000 and my parents defo can't!

Would they take 1000 from each of us? Would it be enough for now? I thought I saw that you could somewhere and pay the rest later or get the refund

Michellenman said so earlier in the thread here, but I wouldn't know myself

I'd imagine [or hope] they'd be fairly lenient. Lots of students will be in the same boat, and especially in your case with two siblings having to pay at the same time.

And even if not, you can still pay late, but it will be an extra €100 each

Yeah. I rang fees and grants, I'm in the same situation in that both my brother and myself are in 3rd level education. They said that you can pay 1093 before the final week of september and then you have until february to pay off the balance of 1000. Give the fees office a ring if you like, they're really friendly and happy to help and have loads of info about how you can pay.

I got my letter saying I'm getting the grant, do I need to do step 10 (not including the €93, I know that) or am I registered now and just need to wait?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,604 ✭✭✭xOxSinéadxOx

I never paid the money cos I got the grant just 93, just went in with the letter you should be grand! I didn't even bother going in with the letter for 2nd year. I also know of a girl who paid her registration fee a year later. as in she paid 2 registration fees in one go cos she didn't have the money the first time round. I'd reckon you'd be grand especially if you don't have the money and are expecting the grant.

Interesting subject but the woman has no sense of humour. Did she show you the BBC documentary where the man appears to levitate backwards down a staircase? We laughed at it and were thrown out of the class :D

    Sorry just saw this.
Nope she never showed us that! Wish she had!

Ah she's lovely! So timid though!
You should have just given her a hug and everything would have been fine!

Its finance and accounting, I have the choice between fn 309 International Finance or International Financial Markets and Institutions. Has anyone any experience of either?
