You should have said something to let her know what she was doing was reprehensible. Basically you've justified what she's doing by saying nothing if she meets no opposition to what's she's doing there's no reason why she wouldn't keep doing it.

i quite disagree with you. so all the dealers all over dublin city center are justified because people who dont want to be stabbed dont express opposition?

and it never ceases to amaze me what the state will provide if stories are to be believe.

    Stories aren't to be believed.

There's a million stories about de immigrants and de spongers that get free houses, free cars and free babies from the dole. But the facts of these cases are always relayed along the lines of "a friend's cousin works in the dole office and she said."

Nobody ever seems to be able to explain what benefit they're getting all these wonderous free things from.

Somebody sees a black guy in a car and he says he got a grant to buy it they automatically assume it was the dole. Chances are it was a Enterprise Grant because he was starting his own business.

So you like to base your morals on drug dealers?

Why not? He bases his facts on 'if stories are to be believed'.

that was quite a stretch to come up with that correlation, and made very little sense.

i was simply applying your logic to another situation, but you failed to grasp that i see.

Theres your problem you believe all the crap you hear.

And I'm offended because you seem to think people are too entitled and that that in itself is abuse of the system. I have worked and paid my taxes but applying for a college grant to try and educate myself to better find employment is looking for a free ride ?

Please explain to me how that girl was abusing the system. Explain why her wanting a house or dropping out of college to have a child sickens you ?

There's your problem right there. If you actually look at the facts and figures, the people struggling to survive on the amount they recieve from the government, you'll see the stories are not to be believed. The majority of them are pure bullshit and nothing more.

    ok.

first, unlike you, i do not believe everyone is a liar, so when she told me the benefits she received, i believed her.

so she already has her house, but its no longer good enough for her.

second, the system was never set up so people could go their entire lives without working a minute. she may not be abusing the system to the letter of the law, but she sure is in spirit.

third, too many women in this country know all they have to do is spread their legs, pop out a baby, and say they dont know who the father is. is it any wonder so many young couples no longer get married?

I'm 26 now. From the age of 19 i was earning 30k+ and paying all of my taxes. Today i recieved my dole. €75 went to rent, €40 on food, €50 on my esb/bills. I've €23 to last me until next wednesday.

Don't be starting threads talking crap about this one girl you know who filled you with crap, and you didn't know anybetter to look into it before slating all of us on the dole.

WE are not over paid and milking it. SOME are milking the situation.

I think everyone is being a bit unfair on the OP. This girl told her that she wanted to have a baby so she was going to drop out of college- WTF?? Most normal people have babies when they can provide for them, not just because they feel like having them. Does her OH provide for them? Does she have an OH or does she plan on enlisting some unsuspecting donor?

It's not unheard of for people to return to education without informing SW of this so that they can keep their Jobseekers allowance either. NTM some of the unreal gaffs they're living in compared to the one bed flat I shared with my OH for the first couple of years of our proessional lives, or the hovels that alot of us would have shared with strangers as students.

It's really, really not that simple. Money is not just automatically thrown at you, and what you do recieve is not as much as you seem to think.

    This is probably true.

I am less inclined to believe wild stories, but when this girl was talking to me I really had no reason not to believe her.

And sorry for posting another dole thread. As someone who pays taxes, I was feeling pretty outraged by that situation, and I know quite a few more who are scamming the system.

to be honest if you dont have the stones to say anything to her face then stfu about it afterwards

    then again it never happened

Social Welfare run checks 2 or 3 times a year with colleges. You cannot go back to college and keep your Jobseekers and get away it these days. You can however get a BTEA (Back to Education Allowance) through which you can attend college and receive dole payments for the duration of your time in college.

Unreal gaffs? Which ones are these? How do they afford them? Do they get unreal gaff allowance?

When I was on the dole the gaff I was renting was unreal alright but that was unreal because of the amount of stuff that went wrong with it.

Hey OP - did this girl tell you that the dole were going to buy the house for her?

That's funny, I was pretty sure that the banks and the ridiculous reliance on the over-inflated property market were the reason we're all f*cked.

for what reason would i come on here and make this up?

do you always say EVERYTHING that is on your mind? or do you possess something called decency and manners? for what good reason would i want to start a war with a classmate i might have to see for another 2 years?

So long story short she doesnt abuse the system, you just assumed she would get a brand new free house ( I assume the palace she's in now doesnt have room the the helicopter landing pad). And because you dont like how she is you just label her an abuser of the system even though you admit that she's not. But who are you to let the facts get in the way of anything ?

Then you make a ridiculous generalisation of women opening their legs (we all know women are all whores who'd do anything for a few quid) poppin a sprog out in order to claim some more benefits.

    Well done you.

I don't disagree, but the fact that just the possibility of such an occurrence stifled your tongue and caused you the clam up and not express yourself makes you a wuss in my opinion.

Stand up for what you believe in OP, better to die like a lion than live like a sheep.

Can you give examples of when you confronted someone you don't know well over something they did?

Course they are too entitled but thats not their fault its the systems fault. Although not everyone should be lumped into the one pot here, there are some who genuinely deserve assistance and need it too. Like anyone who has recently become unemployed should qualify for the full 188 for a year or two, after that it should be reduced significantly. There are people on the dole for ten years and have no interest in ever trying to come off it, they should be hit first, have their payments halved and then halved again 12 months later give them an incentive to actually try find employment. As for Rent Allowance that should be stopped immediately, when giving someone 188 per week they should take 75 - 100 out of it and send it to the persons landlord for rent and give them 50 - 75 quid to live on for the rest of the week, that way they wont be getting rent allowance paying a small amount of rent themselves and still be left with 150 quid to spend on dutch gold and bensons.

Serious reform of the Social Welfare System is required and it cant be done soon enough.

Careful OP, you don't know where the poster is from...you might be in danger of leaving yourself open to accusations of racism.

Which we know is enough for you to bite that tongue of yours.

So your original reason for believing it has being shown to be false seeing as that girl could not have gotten what she claimed to have gotten but you still think its fact ?

Yes but at that point if 100 people do it for 6 months substantial damage has already been done. I know someone who did it for a few months last year and treated it as an interest free loan. She needed the money, so even if she had to pay it back it was a win for her.

I remember visiting a friend of a friend in Tarbert (back of nowhere I know but just an example, not isolated) who had a 3- bed council house overlooking the Shannon, which was equipped with a lovely Aga stove no less. Longterm boyfriend and father of her 3 year old not on birth cert and had been living with them since they got the house.

I also know a student with a child who lives with her parents, and herself and her boyfriend (long term unemployed, no education) share a 2 bedroom house paid for by rent allowance. She reckons because she can't get a council house this year, she might defer her course for a year and do something at a "crap" plc until the housing office gives her something, as she will also get an allowance from the plc. Bearing in mind that any money she gets is for both her and the child, and she doesn't even raise it.

I don't understand why people who are on the dole are not more outraged at these examples. If these people did not exist, or were caught earlier then there would be shorter waiting times for people who are not scamming, and less of a stigma attached to being in the system in the first place.

Seeing as you cant prove anything and its you who created the argument your the one with the problem. All I have to know as fact is you dont have a clue what your talking about.

If you want to slate people for abusing the system at least have a valid reason for doing it. What you have provided so far isnt proof of anything other than your own ignorance.
