I probably average about 9 hours a day most of the time. There's weeks I'll average 3-4 hours though. My lack of sleeping pattern means I'll often sleep 15 different times a week, not including during my commute.

Some nights in the week I only sleep for maybe 3 or 4 hours and then one night I could sleep for 11 or 12. No balance to my sleeping pattern.

Usually in bed or about 8 hours, how much of it is actually sleep is another thing tho. I'm a very light sleeper so I tend to wake up a few times during the night and then have to get back to sleep again. I'd say I prob average about 6 hours unless I have "The Fear" after the gargle, down to about 2 or 3 then, fooking poxy Sunday nights

i stayed up for 4 days straight once just to see if i could do it, wud recommend it, you reach a stage after exhaustion where your brain becomes numb, your body is still moving but nothing registers. slept for a full day afterwards. when i eventually woke, i felt like a different person and everything was new. like when your phone is acting up, letting the battery die and rechargin it fully.

4 to 6 hours does me when im working, i work shift work and only 3 days a week so sleep pattern doe be all over the place. On my days off 6 to 8 hours rarely sleep for any longer than that.

People sleeping up to 12 hours etc just seem like a waste to me.

How ever long my 2 babies let me have:(

I am being held to ransom-I would ideally need 9-10 hours but I'm lucky to get 5-6 these days and that is broken in the middle.

Woe is me-need more and more caffeine these days.

Going by your username do you have to get up in the night to change yourself too :pac:

Kids must be a nightmare during the night, not sure how I could get up at 2/3/4am every night to look after them

7 at the least, usually about 7.5 to 8.5.

In my opinion, the exact best time to sleep is go to bed between 11.15 and 11.30pm and wake up between 7.15 and 7.30am (if your commute time allows it); gives you about 7 hours 45 mins of good sleep on average, after taking into account time taken to fall asleep. These hours also seem, to me, to be the best hours to be awake. I have to say, I'm lucky that I don't really experience problems with sleep.

If I do sleep for 8 hrs it makes me groggy and I feel more fatigued:confused:

Not enough is the answer. During the week probably between 4-6 hours. At the weekend slightly more. I used to be able to sleep in but just can't anymore for some reason.

Yeah I get something similar. If I get 7 hours I'm more rested than if I get 8.

7 hours for me but most of my friends think that's alot....5/6 hours seems to be the norm for alot of people..

During the week 4-6 depending on what time i'm working at, 6-8 then at the weekends/days off

Wow, for the people who need 3/4 hours. I sleep 8 or 9 hours every night and it's not enough for me. Weekends I usually sleep 10/12 hours and it's still not enough.. I would sleep for an entire day If I could.

7 or 8 hours on a school night, otherwise can't function! Weekends- vary really, if I go out I either go into a drunken coma or only sleep for 3 hours, depends what I've been drinking!

I can function normally with 5 but I'm not happy. I normally sleep for 8hr min if I can. 12 is for weekends.

    7 to 8 hrs

Usually 'bout 6 hrs...nightbird but have to get up most mornings. I usually try and get one night during the week where I get 8-9hrs to recharge. Can manage a full work day on 3-4 hrs if necessary but don't like doing it if I've a long drive.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,770 ✭✭✭LeeHoffmann

4-5 hours? How do ye manage?! I usually get about 6 but need 9-ish to be fully-functional. I read that we sleep in three hour cycles and that it's better to finish a cycle than sleep longer and not finish -i.e. 6 hours is better than 8 hours, but 9 hours is better than 6. Don't know where I read that now

8 hours is just perfect for me.

I get up around 7, get outta bed around 9.

These threads tend towards the I DONT NEED SLEEP mastrubation. In fact you need 8-9 hours. I get 7-8 during the week, although there are nights when I get 6. And once a month 4 - when I take an early flight. And about 8-9 at weekends. Which can mean 3AM to 11, or Midday, if I was out the night before.

I take, at weekends when I can (which is not always possible) what I need. I set no alarm clock. I recommend that. WOuld prefer to have no <7 hours during the week either. But, studies show we all need 8, on average.
