I used to be a Hanley Centre girl. I lasted a day and a half and sold a grand total of 8 scratchcards :D I loathed myself the entire time :(

    Oh those basterds!

Hear I was thinking of Hamleys

    ROFL! :D

Brilliant! Pure Brilliant! Thanks AH, you have just confirmed the faith I have in my own observations and thus confirmed the uselessness of this forum to those secure in their own sanity.

    Thanks again!

I'd love to see some examples of journalist stealing content from boards and creating articles out of it. I know they sometimes quote people from boards but I think this wholesale copy and paste stuff is exaggerated.
They tend to swipe ideas too tbh, from Boards threads generally rather than just specifically AH.

Not so much wholesale copypasta, but the odd phrase often unconsciously gets used that gives the game away.

Can't say I can point to any recent example tbh, haven't been keeping an eye out, but there's been a fair few examples in the past.

But then, how many Boards threads (esp. AH) start with "I just saw this in the *** paper, and it got me thinking ..."

Is there any such thing as 100% originality?

    Fuppin Hanly Centre.

Got annoyed by one lad for ages to buy a scratchcard in Cavan the other week. I'm too soft.

4 euro I think it was. Jesus wept.

I find that the weekend review magazine in the Saturday Indo often has topics that came up in AH. Not topics of the day either, just random ones. Can't think of any off hand either but it does happen

Not a biggy imo, it's hard to have an original opinon these days and you can't blame these lads for seeing something genuinely interesting and thinking that it would go well in the paper

The internet has defeated you my friend. Bow out now, get back to the real world, and consider yourself one of the lucky ones. God speed.

Au contraire mon ami! I have defeated the internet but I know what you were trying to say! Cheers! ;)

As far as I can tell, the idea of the original post is that AH is like the Hanly Centre chuggers because the chuggers lure you in by seducing you and take the TWO EURO you give them (and maybe it's implied they misuse it, though that's not mentioned, but it would mean the comparison makes more sense).

Now After Hours also lures you in with its attractive and flirtatious users, thus making you give your opinion or good idea (or TWO CENTS), only for that then to be misused by an unscrupulous journalist.
The same way, I suppose it's implied, that the Hanly Centre misuses your two euro.

I'm ashamed to admit that I've read the post more than a few times now.

    Did I figure it out?

    Do I win?

Yes you win an original thought from a hanly centre girl...
    terms and conditions apply.

Term 1. You must find and speak to a hanly centre girl

Hopefully they will someday. Maybe then this great little country will actually be just a great country!

It's happened on boards before (not just AH) where thinly veiled copy/paste jobs have appeared in various publications that didn't credit the source.
Elsewhere on boards.ie, I could believe.
    AH, I don't believe.
Pretty sure that some journalists have posted here too in the past, posing questions and sometimes polls to garner various public opinion for their piece without revelaing their motive.
Oh yeah, that's using AH as a weathervane, but it certainly isn't plagiarism.

Is this thread about hot chuggers or journalists?

Really? AH has it's moments IMO...once you wade through the childish BS, thanks whoring and toilet humour there can be some pretty decent discussions on here. I've seen threads that out did their parallel efforts on politics and the other more sombre parts of the site on AH and since it's also the busiest of the forums you get more through traffic and hence a more diverse set of opinions... hell you even get the odd original one from time to time...

Ohhh those people are so annoying! If its not the Hanley centre people, its the panda people. And before when it was the PAWS people?

As a girl, its usually the guys that will stop me. They're more persistent if you're with a friend or two, but we'll only stop if the guy is particularly hot/charming :P Its harder to say no to them! Only given them money about 2/3 times though, and i'm town every day (still bad!).

The charity people are crazy though! They actually remember your name, will remember if you bought a scratch card earlier, etc. Anything to make money I guess, but my friend worked briefly for the Hanley centre, and she quit after a few month because she couldn't hack it. In fairness, people can be sooo rude to them, even if they are extremely annoying.
