Maybe they want to be a ban garda.

The banners are worse than the lads for giving lifts.

I wouldn't mind getting a lift of some ban Garda.

    *remembers hot Garda girl*

Why the attitude? There wasn't much conversation - just what you'd expect - asking are they trying to leave, explanation about the fob etc. They seemed relieved to be let out

I cant imagine they were very happy with you that's all.

I'm sure they were on to their sergeant crying about been locked in a car park by the bad man.
You should have kept them their all night.

I think it's my turn to say something rude like ya whatever
They had no reason to be angry with us. We did nothing wrong

"Hell hath no fury like a scorned taximan" I reckon the op is the taximan, maybe if taxi fares were more reasonable there would be less people walking the roads pissed resulting in gardai giving them lifts or having to arrest them or even God forbid having to put them in body bags after they have been knocked down. Can you blame a gardai for giving a friend or someone with no money a lift home if they have the time. Get a life op!

This is an example of a drunk woman asking a garda for a lift.

Never heard of this happening. Sounds more like a rumour spread by some person with a dislike to the Garda. Then again, I'd say it's much easier to get away with that down the country.

If this was as common spread as you make it sound, I'd be sure some idiot would have made allegations of rape by now.

i'm from down the road from OP and yes it does/did happen,i know girls personally who have availed of this public service.

A blond walks into a bar, she asks the barman for a double entendre, so he gave her one

I've seen unmarked Mondeo police cars pick up folks off the street on a Saturday night in Cork on a good few occassions over the years, I don't know if they were friends of the Gardai or other Gardai. My sister and her friend used to get shuttled home from a night out in Bray in a PaddyWagon van, her friend was seeing a Garda, they are since married. Rumour my hole.

I suppose Gardai driving home after a few pints and flashing the badge at any checkpoint is rumour too ??

I was talking to a taxi driver last night, and he told me something about the guards that didn't impress me one bit. He said he knows of many of them that spend their Saturday nights from around 2am-4am chauffeuring young woman home after their night out on the town and just arse around in general.

So some lad could be getting stabbed on the town and certain guards are too busy with chatting up and driving around drunken woman for the craic to pass the time.
Jealous taxi-driver I'd say, losing out on a fare & a vunerable young lady.

I've noticed a lot of Guards to be useless at their job in Clonmel but that's just taking the buscuit in fairness.

And this isn't the first instance I've heard about this, word of this happening has been going around the town for quite some time now.

So, what are the Guards like in your area?

There's your mistake right there. If taxi drivers knew half as much as they think they do they wouldnt be driving you home at 3am on a saturday night.

very interested as to what that is supposed to mean???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,297 ✭✭✭talla10

    What's that supposed to mean?

Taxi drivers think they know everything. Sport, politics, aviation, space travel, cinema, music, poetry, medicine, entertainment, travel, electronics, insurance, legal studies, solar system, Asian markets, up to date exhange rates, science, technology, fashion, geography, history, latin and can tell the difference between butter and i can't believe its not butter.

Bottom line if they actaully knew 50% of all the crap they say then they wouldn't be driving a taxi and would have a different career and be better paid for their vast knowledge.

    Do you generalise very often?

    Do you generalise very often?

    No more than anyone else.

There are good taxi drivers and bad taxi drivers. Same as every profession.

no no.... a standard taxi is based on the distance you travel / time you wait, number of "extras" etc... thats just stupid saying "a taxi in clonmel costs €6...

Dont worry, ull get a women some day :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,673 ✭✭✭AudreyHepburn

I'd hate to be a Garda in this country, you'd get nothing but abuse even if you were in the process of saving some-one's life.

OP would you rather the Gardai left young girls to walk the streets alone at night, unable to take care of themselves?

Can we please stop deluding ourselves that the Gardai are useless idiots? It's getting tedious.

I'm from Clonmel aswell and he's right.

A taxi to and from anywhere within Clonmel is a standard €6.

peoples i think what the OP posted is leading to this question do you think its ok for the garda to give lifts home to women and friends while on duty.
these women OP is refering too are not in trouble of being attacked they are women the garda is actually trying to pick up.
its called putting in the ground work,do her a favour maybe get her number then next week maybe meet her in the disco/bar and have a conversation starter.
so no i dont think its ok for them to do this while on duty while some scumbag up the road in the local council estate is causing trouble and they can't be bothered heading up there cause its only the ****e council estate.
