I was in Derry at the weekend when a mate of mine picked up the Skate/Monte Carlo for £150. It's a nicer phone. Much bigger screen altho it doesn't feel so different size wise in your pocket. Camera is way better. The San Fran is unusable. for the extra 50 quid I'd go for the Skate.

I'd defo recommend the San Fran .... Very easy to unlock and de brand .... Has anyone de branded the skate ?

Anyone???. Problem is I can only barely hear the caller. They can hear me OK. The only way I can overcome the issue is to turn on the Loudspeaker and reduce the volume. I've gone through all the settings to no avail. I'm running Swedish Spring RLS5.

I got the skate a week ago , I have it rooted and de branded and its a much nicer phone than the blade. ,(which I also have) ,just hoping it will get unlocked soon but in the meantime I'm just using it on wi fi .

Sorry I've no idea. But if you ask the question on the Modaco forum for the ZTE Blade you might get a better response.

The San Fran is unusable. Edit: I see you probably mean the Blade Camera, 3MP, no flash, but perfectly usable...apologies!!

Are you talking here about a particular phone or the Blade in general?

Cos I would strongly disagree with you if you mean Blade in general.

It is highly usable, customizable, useful, easily SIM unlocked, etc, etc.

You could also use Viber, calls and text, or CSipSimple, for VOIP calls......or any voip client, I think there is a native VOIP client in Gingerbread?? on Skate.

SIM unlocking the Skate seems to be presenting a big problem for the guys on Modaco, seems to be properly locked down by Orange this time, pity.

Just thought I'd share this Viber workaround for Blade running Swedish Spring, where sound is being routed to the speaker:

Stumbled upon a solution (works for me, at least). After turning the phone on, or after reboot, just open "FM Radio" app, without connecting the headphones => close the app => the sound during the talk on Viber will now be routed to the earpiece, as it should. It will work until the next reboot, then the FM Radio must be open again for Viber to work properly. Why is this effective - beats me, but it works like a charm!

This works, I have verified on my Blade, with SS 5/Gen2.

It is best to re-boot initially, close/exit Viber, run FM Radio App, close it again, restart Viber then Viber Calls, incoming and outgoing, route to phone ear-piece, and will stick until next re-boot.

This even survives exiting Viber again, to prevent Battery drain, and starting as required.

Of course, on phone re-boot, you need to repeat procedure.

Probably not elegant, but workable solution.

Sorry it wasn't clear the way I put it. I meant the camera is pretty unusable, the phone is the dogs goolies.

i travel across the border daily and find the phone wont automatically choose another network when my home 1 isnt available, ive gone through the settings selected automatic etc but i still have to manually scan and add a northern network, ive gone back to my old sony phone as ive been missing too many calls it changes networks seemlessly, anyone any ideas how to solve this or is this just an android bug

I upgraded to Ginger stir fry. Had all my apps backed up with my back up pro, all restored now. I began the process of moving ones to the sd card using “App 2 SD Free” all was going well until suddenly it started saying there wasn’t enough space to move apps tried many different apps so it wasn’t just an issue with one app... there are about 6gb free on my sd card and about 80mb on the phone, so can’t see any reason for this error, have restarted the phone but still no luck.

Anybody have any issues charging their blade from AC adapter? My brothers will only charge from a USB on a computer... Have changed roms, factory reset etc but no joy! He abandoned it and is now on a blackberry so trying to sort this out so I can sell it for him!

I have issues charging it, sometimes when I go to charge it, it will start to charge but then it stops after a few seconds. A reboot solves it and then it charges no problem. I assumed you've tried that already?

Hi could anyone help me I have this phone and it stopped conecting to the internet about a month ago.Eveytime I try to set up my internet connection I keep getting this response,
"SORRY! the application setting(process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly.please try again."

What can I do to fix this ???????????

I'm getting the exact same. That, coupled with a faulty earpiece in the phone, makes me think of turfing the thing back to Argos UK. BUT before I do that, how do I do a factory reset on the phone?????

yeah think it's a bigger prob fro my bro! have found a couple of people with same issue by googling, but no solution... some say it's hardware issues but one guy has managed to get it done by changing roms factory reset etc. which i've tried, but to no avai :-(

Hi Rachael.....

Stopped connecting to Internet how, Wi-Fi, Mobile Data, or both??

Do other devices connect if Wi-Fi problem? Like Lap-top, etc.

What ROM are you using, on what device?

Have you flashed new ROM recently?

If yes, did you do fill wipe in ClockworkMod Recovery:

Under mount and storage:
Format /system
Format /cache
Format /data
Format /boot
If you want to clean your external partition on SD card too, ONLY then format /sd-ext

Under main menu
wipe user data
wipe cache

I can vouch for the shyte ZTE wall charger...mine just died, apparently, so I now need to charge from my puter USB, 4 hours at least!!

However, my son has given me a spare iPhone wall charger, and it works, only sometimes phone thinks it is USB charge, but I stop/start, and then it charges as AC......bit dodgy, not sure if there is also a problem with the Blade charging cct now also.

You're absolutely right, the minimum power rating is important.
What I meant was, it is not a problem, if the power rating is larger than 700mA (since that is the question mostly asked).

Concerning the el cheapo chargers: it depends on the charger itself. As long as it's capable of supplying 370 or 700mA, at exactly 5.0V it's fine.

So, to make the conclusion final:

You need a charger which outputs:
At least 370mA, while maintaining the 5.0V (with data lines NOT connected)
OR
At least 700mA, while maintaining the 5.0V (with data line connected)

Just checked by ZTE Charger with a voltmeter there, and I am getting just 4.3V [Pins 1(VCC) to 4(GND)].....so it's fooked!!!

On the Apps thing, are you using App2SD from Market?

Have you tried just Android/Google native apps2sd.....

Also Mod Install Location from Market, which allows you to force move Apps not designed to move, just be careful with widgets, etc.

You tried Darktremor A2SD? All Apps and optional Dalvik to SD??

There is an A2SDGUI app to help with commands, on Market.

You would need to partition SD into say 7G FAT32 and 1G ext2/3 , but it works a treat, and on GSF.

If you looked at the dates for the GApps - you'd see some newer ones then June

There was one from 28th of August. Newer apps ya see.
No idea about partitioning and linking bits of the internal memory to SD tbh, Androids standard system has always worked fine for me.

I'm wondering if there is an issue with Intune radio and sip voip.

SIP seems to be fine following reboot so long as Intune hasnt been run.

However......

It would appear ( i.e. I suspect ) that if Intune is run then the speech path out from the SF is mute and remains mute untill reboot. ( path inward work fine ).

SF is on GSF 19 and same seems to happen with native SIP support and Csipsimple.

Anyone have issues with SIP on their Blade ?

My phone is not receiving photos sent by text message, I get the text and the size of the photo and a download box, I clikc on that but the photo never seems to download. I can text photos no bother.

Is there a setting I need to change?

I am picking one of these up on friday.

Am i right in assuming its likely to be a gen 2 model with the TFT display.

Anyway seems easy enough to unlock but my question is when rooting what is currently the most stable and best os people are using?
