Yep that's normal. You should have also got a PS/2 to USB cable with it? Pop that into the PC USB/Keyb slot and then into a usb port on the pc (it powers the jpac), then plug your actual PS/2 keyboard into the one marked Keyboard.

But should it not have a usb port like in main pic on the site, beside the 2 ps/2 ports?:

I thought the same but mine doesn't have that either. I think that pic is misleading, I know it says new version but I don't think it is or else it's not the one he actually sells. That youtube vid I linked a while back showing how to hook it up - they didn't have that connection either.

P.S. Remember to ignore the VGA port on it for your monitor and plug the cab vga cable directly into the ArcadeVGA card.

Mine has the usb connector, I thought that was standard...though maybe its removed on the newer ones?

Some pictures as I'm rather bored at work :D

Look out for serial numbers. Every cart was given one. Carts with serial numbers are more valuable.

    pic15.jpg

If the serials are scrached off (there are in most cases) it's actually a good sign as far as being legit goes. SNK no likely their games being sold to the public. Serial number = easily traced back.

Holographic labels. Most carts dont have them. But if you see this then it's more than likely 100% legit -

    7546365_orig.jpg

Here's a legit holo label one with the serials scrached off. Most carts look like this, minus the holo label

    devicememoryhomeuserpic.jpg

Some odd looking ones from memory.

    Legit Metal Slug 3 -

    $(KGrHqMOKogE32llLPYBBOJil0NRDQ~~_35.JPG

    Legit Aero Fighters 2 -

    DSC03153.jpg

    Legit Mark of the Wolves!

    Garou-Mark-of-the-Wolves-MVS.jpg

Legit Metal Slug 5 - (You'd swear these carts are pirates. The plastic is the exact same as some pirate carts I have)

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQCkggclmNSWEMtQgdYPJVLmkckHc2fg_-kSobHEVWCPjikl8Zs

Example of a pirate board. Windowed eeproms are a bad sign. As is hand soldering -

If anyone is unsure of an auction feel free to give me a shout.

Do you use that connection though? Or did you get a cable for it along with the jpac? I think it was removed but maybe an email to Andy to confirm is best.
I defo noticed the same issue when I got mine and enquired about it, I can't remember if it was someone here or elsewhere that said their's was missing too.

I'll have to physically check as its ages since I seen my cab innards, but as far as I remember I connect the jpac to pc with a usb cable (this gives it power), & I have the keyboard connected into it via ps2 so it acts as a passthrough for hotkeys etc. Heavy amounts of "afaik" there though, will confirm later

Below is a pic from your setup (I had that thread saved for reference, swear I'm not standing in your shed right now :pac:): you're using the two ps/2 cables it looks like - the black one has usb on the other end I think. Or that's how it works on the one I got.

Quick update, just got a speedy reply back from Andy:
    Andrew,

The connector is not fitted on current production, it was only fitted on the first batch of these boards in case a firmware upgrade was needed and the customer had purchased only the PS/2 cable,

    Andy

So it's fine to be missing. It's been said here before but his after sales service is just awesome.

Just got a reply from Andy over on Ultimarc
    .
    Hi,

None of the boards have a USB connector fitted, both interfaces run through the PS/2 connection.

    Andy

Seems fair enough. He should change the pic on the site though as it does have the USB port on it.

I also asked him if he'll be updating the base graphics card he uses for the ArcadeVGA to something a bit more powerful.

Will see what he says as that's the only weak spot in my Hyperspin PC.
I mean its fine but if your running any emulators that push the system a bit you are going to have problems, Sega Naomi and Dreamcast for instance.

Just checked there your right Andrew, both connectors on the jpac are ps2, with the black wire having usb on the pc end :)

Just curious but can you actually identify a bootleg before you buy it?

I've stopped buying GBA carts on-line after getting a couple of bootlegs. Some of the obvious ones are easy enough, just about anything from Hong Kong, Pokemon carts with solid shells or normal screws but some are all but impossible without having the cart in your hands so I've given up.

I bought Sonic Advance recently (whilst slightly pissed) for €4, Random seller, its neither rare nor in great demand so I figured it was highly unlikely to be anything but legit, soon as it arrived I could tell it was bogus and it was. Can't bring myself to even look at it nevermind play it.

Thief is one of the best games you'll ever play but it's a whore to get running on Windows 7. I've some links in my blog to the files you'll need, think the Thief 2 ones are there as well.

You'll get a step down in any electronics store such as Peats. It's where I got mine.

Cheers, I'll look that up on your blog. Can you not run it in a XP VM on W7 x64?

I love the Thief games. Never played the third one but the first two are utterly amazing. Forget Metal Gear Solid. Thief was the original and best stealth game. Still is!

Forgot to add, I found these in my bag I also received today, two Wonderswan games I bought for my Wonderswan Color which is in the mail to me from Japan. No idea what games they are though but they look Gundamesque... which is a good thing considering I love Gundam and all things Mecha. :)

It has problems with Windows XP as well and you also have to set it up so it's only running on one core for a dual core system. I've gotten both games working fine on vista and windows 7 by following the instructions in the links in my blog. The only one that didn't really work was the video codec part for Thief 2 but the videos worked fine for me without doing that step so you might get lucky as well.

Seeing as we're talking PC Engine, and you're a fellow PC Engine owner and platinum card holder, I better put on a monacle and top hat for this post! :D

    bender_monocle.jpg

You should have a look at Robert Webb's website, Console Goods or check out Console Passion. Is yours a Doujindance RGB'd console with mods? If not, get that looked at and see if someone can do it for you to really get the best out of your console.

As for a step down, check those websites. Robert is a very nice chap, he'll sort you out and won't rip you off.

I've said it in other posts I've made and stand by my words, invest very wisely in a step down. Buy the best you can afford, saves you crying over a melted machine later and your investment dribbling away over your living room floor and down the toilet.

I'd just get a good one in Peats or Maplin. Have you felt the weight of a step down converter? You'll pay a fortune in postage. Just make sure to never leave the plugged in when not in use. You'll end up with a big electricity bill.

Or look at the orig psu, look at voltage+ampage+polarity written on the psu and try find something close *make sure the polarity is correct*

As pyoung said console goods is a good call so is game doctor hongkong *has a VIP area of rare items for really big spenders

True, the one I use for my Saturn and PC Engine Duo-R is the size of Brian Cowen's FACE.

I just wanted to look out for the lad, can't be buying the wrong stepdown for such a beauty of a console. An epic door to a world of fine and bizarre gaming has been opened to him and we can't let it melt away, literally! :)

Cheers for the game ID, much appreciated. Agreed, they're probably text heavy RPG's but ho-hum, they'll do as fillers to test. I've actually not done much Wonderswan research yet. All I really want is Judgement Silversword!
