I got a N64 with like 30 games before on adverts for 70 euros.

Games included - smash bros, mario party, mario kart, mario golf, mario tennis, mario 64, both zeldas, banjo tooie, goldeneye, fzero, conkers and some others.
It was listed as n64 and a box of games.
I only got it as my own n64 was broken.
Nothing like that NES though. I was in like a minute after. Was getting ready to turn the car around and drive up there and then. Was raging.

Ah no man, that sucks about your work :( I'd like to reassure you by saying 'nah, don't bother being jealous..the NGP sucks ass'...but it really really doesn't. In fact I'm amazed, it's a little power house. Metal Slug kicks absolute ass.

If anything, it needs to be part of your motivation in getting out there and finding another job!

NGP is so cheap as are the games that it's really affordable. I've built up a decent collection and I've no job! :) Also no responsibilities but that's only minor :P

You'll get a console for as low as about €25 delivered from Japan. I think mine was €30?

Unboxed games go for nothing. Think 5-10gbp! It's just when the games are boxed they go for a little more..but nothing bank breaking. Definitely get one.

Got myself an unboxed neogeo pocket colour from japan for 18 euros including delivery. Got a ****ty pachinko game with it.

Then I got a lot of 10 NeoGeo pocket games for about 35 euro. This one here in fact:

    http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250873610905

Been picking up a few other games as well. Most seem really cheap and it seems not many people are bidding on the more common ones. You shouldn't have to pay more than 15 for a boxed game. Some games will set you back more but can be found cheaper boxed and unless you are getting the crazy rare games you shouldn't pay too much.

Sure I managed to track down Faselei!, one of the rarest and most sought after games on the system for 40 unboxed and I'm sure it would go for cheaper unboxed on ebay.

There's not a lot of games on the system but you will find that the quality of most of the games is extremely high.

Fantastic little system with probably the best joystick/pad of any console (yes, even better than the saturns japanese pad!).

I think I got the exact same bunch of games from that seller, nice chap to deal with. Yeah the joystick really is brilliant too.

It's a PuyoPuyo clone with 3d bits though, I have it in my collection, not played too much...

I have to say though, my new GBA:SP AGS-101 is a revelation, not just because Zelda:Lttp has never looked so good, but also because my GB/C stuff looks breathtaking on it too!
You play on it and the screen is bright and crisp.
Then you press the light button on the front, to see what it looks like with the light off, and it only gets brighter!
I may have teared up a bit, just a little, playing Mr.Driller....

Just got 9 MVS carts for in a bundle that included Prehistoric Isle 2!

    Cool,

    Make sure they're not bootlegs.

First thing to look for when buying these carts.
They have a huge amount of bootlegs on ebay and you have to be very careful not to get stung with them.

From what I remember, Prehistoric Isle 2 is a highly bootlegged game. I tried to get that one but gave up as all I could find were boots.

Check the boards in the carts when they arrive. If you see any windowed eeproms you should cry :(

Just curious but can you actually identify a bootleg before you buy it?

I think you have some come back on ebay if you get a bootleg cart(I think we talked about it before when I was getting a few MVS carts myself).

Usually the seller will state that the cart is genuine and not a bootleg.
And the very good sellers seem to open up the cart and have pictures of the actually boards inside so you can see it's an original.

That's from my short time buying these carts anyway.

Cheers Steve SI, I definitely try and check for bootlegs. The seller seems reputable enough and is UK based, not in some North Korean outpost. Not that that should make a bit of difference but anyway...

If the carts are dodgy I'll mail them back for a refund. I think they were just a cheap lot as the labels are in bits and/or written on (I can see serial numbers though).

We'll see when they turn up. When I end up going for chunky lads like Blazing Star and Pulstar I'll call the VGA in to examine them. Or Steve SI. :D

EDIT: Argh! I missed the small print. 8 of the carts are genuine. Prehistoric Isle is a bootleg.

Ah Blazing Star is easy enough to come by for an ok price.

Pulstar on the other hand rarely comes up on ebay and when it does its usually pull your pants down and bend over prices. Although bargains can be had, usually from France for some reason.

Not too gutted Prehistoric Isle 2 is a bootleg. The 8 other games are genuine and worth a bob or two so I didn't get stung as such.

What's the story with the bootleg stuff anyway? Aside from the obvious.

Unless the seller has opened up the cart as Steve said then there's no 100% sure way of knowing.

You can usually take a good guess at it though. If it's a proper black neo geo cart shell with a holographic label then it'll highly likely it's legit.

If it's a proper black neo geo cart shell with a non holo label then again, it's probably real. Look out for dodgy black shells though..ones that aren't glossy.

If the cart shell looks a weird colour or has a weird label it may be a pirate. However, it may also be that the original label was destroyed or in Japanese and the person replaced it. There are also a few legit Neo geo games that have odd shells (Metal Slug 5's shell and label look like pirates and they're not..Metal Slug X has transparant shells. Aero Fighters 2 has an odd blue shell)

In summary (!) most games will be in a black glossy shell with a white label and black text. If it's not, alarm bells should ring. Check to see if that particular game had any weird variants.

There is one exception - an ebay seller called Yatkon (or something like that). He sells original boards in dodgy cart shells for some reason.

Getting original MVS carts can be a minefield. But again, as Steve said, if you do get sold a boot it's technically illegal and you are entitled to a refund on ebay.
