vitiman tablets- any benefit?

Hi, someone said vitiman tablets (vit D, cod liver oil I take) are no good as the body doesn't break them down properly. That normally they're in food and the body breaks them down but when they're in a tablet/capsul that you don't get the benefit....true or not? Cheers, Pa.
