Moronic idea. Abolishing the dole will dramtically increase violent crime rates. Extra policing, more spent on healthcare, social workers etc = more than you just saved abolishing the dole. Cue many more homeless too.

Yeah yeah yeah, this scare tactic has been used many a time by workshy bums. Our overpaid, privileged dole scum are so well off that we have one of the worst rates of drug abuse in the world. Heroin abuse and alcohol abuse in particular are rampant among the unemployed. Think of all the savings in healthcare and policing we could make if we reduced dole so that people could only afford food and shelter with it, and maybe the odd pint or two.

Efficiency and progress is ours once more
Now that we have the neutron bomb
It's nice and quick and clean and gets things done
    Away with excess enemy
But no less value to property
No sense in war but perfect sense at home¡

The sun beams down on a brand new day
No more welfare tax to pay
Unsightly slums gone up in flashing light
    Jobless millions whisked away
At last we have more room to play
All systems go to kill the poor tonight

    Gonna
Kill kill kill kill kill the poor¡tonight

    Behold the sparkle of champagne
    The crime rate's gone
    Feel free again
O' life's a dream with you, miss lily white
Jane fonda on the screen today
    Convinced the liberals it's okay
So let's get dressed and dance away the night

    While they¡
Kill kill kill kill kill the poor¡tonight

    How about this?

OP is a c*nt. That is all. No surprise to see Killer Pigeon thanking the post either considering his disbelief that an eighteen year old could support twins working on another thread. All these self important office types on boards don't know what work is, otherwise they wouldn't spend all their time on this.

Oh, and before anyone asks- I work more hours in a week than most do in three, and probably pay more tax than you do too.

    2 points

Anyone who thinks the dole is on the low side for a single person is with the birds. The only way I can see this being the case is if that single person chooses to rent a whole house for over 500 quid a month or some penthouse apartment, or has a lavish lifestyle. I've done the sums...

Second point, if you OWN and live in a house worth 10 million, you are still entitled to the dole as the money is considered inaccessible. Yet if you have a mortgage on a house with say 300k outstanding and have 50k savings in the bank to help pay off the mortgage over time etc, then your dole payment is substantially reduced.

OP, can you tell me, roughly, how many people in this country have been on the dole since 2007?

I hardly think, however many they are, that they constitute a fundamental problem, relatively speaking.

Realy OP, you were over in education forum at the weekend asking about student grants and getting suggestions of interest free bank loans, welfare officers and St. Vincent de Paul

But now you come here and bash people on the dole?

It's never going to be abolished.

But for those people who have been on it since pre-2007, I reckon it should be at least halved, pending a means test or an examination of the circumstances. Laziness shouldn't be awarded

    LOL

You see, this is the kind of thing you need to back up with some proof, lest you leave the rest of the posters to assume your ass checks are red raw from pulling such a post from betwixt them.

The downside of minimal or no social welfare is gated communities, the need to carry a gun, wondering will your kids make it home from school if someone fails to pick them up from school, the streets in cardboard/galvanised tin city running with sewerage and always looking over your shoulder at the teeming millions who want what you have but have absolutely no way out of the mire. Ireland of the future, no thanks. :(

This attitude really worries me. Do people really think that those on the dole should only be allowed enough money to just about survive? Does that include all the people who've lost their jobs recently and are out looking for work everyday?

There's more to life than just survival, and the dole has to allow for a small amount of comfort. It's not supposed to be a punishment. The dole is quite low anyway, there's really not much room for any luxury, and any time I hear someone say that people on the dole have it easy, I never hear any evidence to back it up.

I think people who call for the dole to be abolished or allow people to just about survive are just trying to live out their own revenge fantasies where scary poor people are demonised and banished from civilised society.

    just sayin..

The dole AND the minimum wage should be abolished. Those people in the under classes who feed like parasites off the dole and social welfare would be churned into factories, increasing the country's workforce and productivity. In the meantime, you'd see a decrease in the amount of unmarried mothers and general social degeneration.

maybe one way might be to have those on the dole included in these public works programmes (i.e. schemes which involve street cleaning, road maintenance ) there are so many dole cheats that really its too late nearly to clamp down on them

Not at all, i genuinely found it very funny and i truly believe that this dole thread shall top all dole threads that came before it.

the dole is very high in this country, if you reduced to a certain level by 50/60 euros and only bring this back up if people can provide evidence they have applied for some jobs, details of training programmes that they have applied for

How much is the dole in this country?

Abolishing the dole and moving to a minimum wage would end up with all out rioting and all out destruction of the state.

a bunch of anarchist socialist nutjobs who never had jobs and never will. these would be the first people to be kicked off the dole, most of them just lack the self confidence to do anything positive with their lives and think playing the victim card as a left wing fringe group is the best way to live. that leeching sense of entitlement and a lack of work ethic just makes them inhuman parasites feeding off decent people
