Is this the reason we have cats?

A friend of mine told me that the reason we have cats is because years ago in egypt during the time of the pyramids, people used to wash there clothes in the Nile river using an ancient type of soap.

The soap would flow down the river further into africa where the tigers and lions would swim in it, the soap would then cause the tigers and lions to shrink just like clothes shrink in a wash.

And thats why we have cats?

I think it might be bull**** but maybe here is some truth to it.

Absolutely! And if we send loads of soap to Egypt and make people wash in the rivers again then in a few years time we'll have little pet elephants too. :D

That sounds like one of the stories I made up, like convincing my little brother cats were a type of worm.

They're descended from a type of African wildcat that was domesticated.

The Nile flows Northward. The soap would end up in the Mediterranean not the middle of Africa.

YES! Especially since there are so many Tigers in Africa...

All rivers flow toward the sea-not thousands of miles inland.

Yes, but the Tigers were too clever. Instead of swimming in the sloppy scum they migrated to Siberia, Bengal and Sumatra.

On second thoughts, I'd like you to explain how the soap would flow further into Africa. Thanks in advance.

you think we have cats, interesting

    Q. why didn't cats invent the can opener ?

    A. they domesticated one instead.

cats carry toxicplasmosis , this affects human brains, it may well be part of the taming process
