This may not be an alt/indie album but that's the style of music I listen to the most and I'm loving Watch The Throne by Jay-Z & Kanye.

Good stuff. I think I'd class it as interesting IDM/techno/house with vocals and occasional guitars.

    Quality album.

As regards myself, I've been jumping between this and Meat Is Murder all week:

A grower. Sounds at times like Codeine, Red House Painters and/or American Music Club. Very nice stuff. Check out: www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZBHpXffkMU.

After four or five listens I've concluded that Berlinette album by Ellen Allien is a total classic.

Idaho are a decent band. I first heard them on a cassette given away with Lime Lizard in 1993 - also featured Trumans Water, Grifters, Polvo, Liz Phair, GvsB etc.

I bought Year after Year on the strength of it and seem to have accumulated eight of their albums. Haven't played them in years though.

Good memory! They totally slipped under the radar for me. I never really went further than Low, Red House Painters and American Music Club in terms of slowcore back in the 90s - I only heard about them from the review of their new album on Pitchfork.

Could you recommend any more like this and Codeine? Frigid Stars from them is great too imo.

I liked their last LP The White Birch. I bought that one first and worked backwards.

Aside from the bands you mention, I didn't really investigate further than them. I have a few bits missing from the Sun Kil Moon / Mark Kozelek discography that I need to pick up. Songs For A Blue Guitar is my favourite RHP - Make Like Paper is amazing.

The guy in that band is so damaged. There's a Norwegian band called The White Birch which makes sadcore-y kind of stuff too and I'd imagine their name is in tribute to Codeine. This is one of their tunes, off Come Up For Air - v good album imo:

I have to admit I wasn't gone on April or Admiral Fell Promises (although Australian Winter is sweet). I'd probably go for the Japanese Gardens album as a favorite. I bought it second hand on casette in the Blackrock Market (it could have been the Grafton Flea Market either - it was a long time ago), probably my most satisfying 2nd hand purchase. Agree re Make Like Paper, it's class. Reminds me a bit of Marquee Moon structure wise, with the humongous guitar solo in the middle. Some of the live versions of MLP on the internet are quite nice.

Swans - Children Of God (1987)
One of the darkest and most fascinating bands of the 80's and early 90's. This album probably stands out as their greatest.

^ Love that album, 'Heaven's On Fire' is one of the most infectious songs you will hear and the whole album has a really nice, hazy, last summer feel. Lesser Matters is just as good, haven't got around to checking out Pet Grief yet.

Cheers. That's a good take on the album. The Video Dept. is indie heaven. I like the nod to The Blue Nile's Tinsel Town In The Rain on A Token Of Gratitude.

Must admit the other two albums didn't really do it for me, philistine that I am. Pet Grief I like, but it's not as good as Clinging To A Dream. The singles compilation, Passive Agressive 2002-2010 is really good, probably second only to CTAD for me. It actually sounds like a double album, rather than a greatest hits compilation.

Hope they play here at some stage. Whelans would be nice.
