Gunfire, car chases and drugs? Big deal. If you ask me, the biggest crime committed in connection with this thread is the awful grammar of the title.

It's my brother and I, not me and my brother.

    Lock the thread.
Burn it to the ground and salt the earth.

This vile transgression cannot go unpunished.

I believe on their heads,in accordance with standard operating procedure, according to an unnamed official source.

Depends whether they had completed the advanced hat course :pac:

If I swerve to avoid a cop car which is involved in a chase, and assuming that the cop car would've hit me had I not avoided it, and I go into a ditch/hit a wall etc..

Who is responsible for the damage to my car?

I always wondered that.. like would I run (edit: run very quickly) after the cop car and insist on getting their insurance details or do you just call up the Ombusman and put in a claim?

Your responsible. Your better off letting a car hit you then swerving to avoid it and hitting something else.

Better to hit a car head on than swerve and hit a ditch? Is that good crack you're smoking?

What were they shooting at them with? Water pistols? Spud guns?

    Was there anyone injured?

These armed Gardai are supposed to be the best of the best? Sounds like they couldnt a barn door with a shovel.

You are so very, very, very wrong. The kind of wrong the Inquisition justifiably tortured people for.

Anyway was driving back from Naas tesco towards Ballymore Eustace when a garda car speeding along the wrong side of the road rammed a car into a ditch 2 meters away from us. To avoid them we had to drive into the ditch on the other side of the road. Anyway the 2 garda in the car got out of their car and began shooting into the car they just ran off the road.. it was mad i couldn't believe my eyes. The car they were chasing just drove off towards naas. It was madness the garda car didn't even have their emergancy lights on we nearly ploughed into them.
    because of this.

Im very annoyed right now as if we had have seen the garda car even 1 second later we surely would have been dead right now. Don't these guards have to flash there lights when they're driving like lunatics? Madness

Was it an unmarked silver Vectra the cops were driving? We came on them and this is the car that was in front of the BMW in the ditch. But it had all manner of lights flashing when we came on it.....and I don't know if they were arresting the guy or searching the BMW when I came on it...just after 7pm.

Myself and the missus were just saying to each other if we set off a few mins earlier we could have been caught up in it....and then I saw your post!

No it isn't. The OP and his brother are the object of the garda's action in the title of the post, and therefore the accusative form, as used by the OP is correct. Normal usage dictates that he should have placed the reference to his brother before his own, so absolutely correctly the title would read:
"Garda nearly killed my brother and me today."
    You could also say:
"My brother and I were almost killed by Garda today."

But you wouldn't say, "Garda nearly killed I." And so you also don't say, "Garda nearly killed my brother and I."

It gets up my nose when people use "I" in these cases, regardless of the structure of the sentence. I hear it on radio and tv all the time, by those who should know better.

It's a good job nobody was killed or the ballymore eustace crew might have gone on the rampage making the London riots look like a tea party innit

Yeah they only got one man. The other Garda car drove off towards naas chasing the rest of them. There is Garda all over Ballymore Eustace today and the ballymore to naas road was closed this morning. Must be very serious.

One could also argue that "and me" is correct as a subject due to its common usage. 'Et moi' is perfectly acceptable in French despite being technically incorrect.

True enough. For some reason, "and me" in the subject has never irritated me the way "and I" in the object does  Just feels somehow snobbish in an ill-informed sort of way.

Ya going back to Ballymore last night we'd to do a detour and I asked the guard who was on duty did it have something with the bmw we came on earlier and he told me what happened....though he never mentioned the one who got away!

Another thread about the Guards on AH.

Maybe we should preface all of them with this tune:
