If he called you names and threatened to kill you, go to court. Not to teach him a valuable lesson and prevent him from causing an accident in the future, but to be vindictive. Revenge is really satisfying.

Id say if he was brought to court over it sandra06 would come out far worse in the end , she mightent have a car to drive slowly in if this lad gets brought to court, revenge can work both ways. Dont think i could ever bring a neighbour to court over something so trivial and if I was ever brought to court like that I wouldnt take it so lightly

Yes I would. I've had simmilar situation like yours, just some idiot drove fast from minor road -his car was half way on my road and I had to break harsh and still drive around him, then he was behind me I stopped went out and went to talk to him -he was very agressive and at some point I thought he will punch me or something. He was polish like me and I HATE those di..heads in their BMW/VW driving like mad where small kids are playing etc!!! Every time I am sorry no guards are around and they dont do anything about it!

So you start a road rage incident and are surprised the other guy gets aggressive and defensive.

Getting out of your car and approaching an other driver is always a mistake. What do you think was going through the other drivers head while you were getting out of your car and approaching him, has he got a gun, a knife, a hurly, have I got a hurly etc. Bad things can and do happen.

First of all it was him who did somethig wrong and almost coused accident and I dont care what he got in his car - he could have bazooka -I dont care. There were people around and he could do nothing to me.
I just cant stand such ignorance and I would do the same as OP!
I know getting of car on the road is not a good idea, but It's hard to just leave it sometimes!

-and thats a very sad story by the way, it's scary to think what some people are capable of.. :( Poor man.

He was guilty of bad driving who hasn't been, you were guilty of road rage.

You have no idea what was going on in his life, maby he was hurrying to hospital to see a dying parent or kid or what ever.

Maby he was a drug dealer with € 10,000,000 worth of Colombian horn power and an Uzi in the car.

    But it's your life.

You might not but perception is everything in these cases. You don't have to threaten the other driver but if you make him feel threatened he is entitled to defend himself .

Have you never made a mistake when driving ?

I never understand people rushing around in cars, relax and take it easy.

The kind of behaviour described in the OP is not a mistake. It's just acting the cunt. All this crap about not calling people out on it is just giving them a license to keep on doing it.

I couldn't agree more I'm not defending bad driving for any reason but it does not justify road raging.

Once you get out of your car to approach someone who has pissed you off because they made a mistake you are starting a confrontation with someone with no idea how it might play out.

There was no damage done. What is the benefit of getting out of your car to berate the other guy who probably feels like a tool for Fu@&ing up anyway.

I'm all on the op's side but getting out of the car is a mistake. Some day you might just call out the wrong guy. That's what we have police for.

We know it wasn't the case in this instance but what if his mrs had rang him 5 minutes earlier to say that little Pawil just went through the glass coffee table and is starting to bleed out all over the floor.

If your kid was bleeding out in your kitchen would you stick to the speed limits and ror if you could get them to hospital sooner than an ambulance?

The point is you have no idea what is goin on with other people. If you feel the need report it and move on.

I am a learner driver and I dont do things like he did! This is the worst you can do- enter major road without checking for other cars!

I agree, but doing nothing is beeing a coward sometimes IMO. I hate how some guys think they have immunity to do what they want on the road. They should bear responsibility from time to time.

what possessed you to follow some random driver with your kids in the car.
How did you get him to stop? If he was driving so fast how the hell did you manage to catch up to him?

No I would not go to court.

thats the problem there very well could have been, and the driver is thiscase was blatantly ignorant to the danger he was posing to other road users

And what have you learned from this incident?

This is the worst you can do- enter major road without checking for other cars!

Apart from drink driving, inappropriate speeding, having bald tyres, I could go on.

Keep learning and stop concerning yourself with other people's driving would be my advice.

Did you tell tour driving instructor this story and what did he have to say?

in all fairness , he entered a housing estate at 11pm at night , the chances of other vehicles was low, if there was other vehicles youd see headlights, it was still wrong to do , but compared to doing it at 5pm or turning onto a road it was a fairly safe option

Entering a major road without checking for other cars is about as bad as any of your examples. Try it, it won't take long until you cause an accident. In fact it, would probably take longer to cause an accident because of drink driving, inappropriate speeding or having bald tyres. Unfortunately, people do these things all the time.

As for being concerned with other people's driving (as well as your own), this is a very important step in avoiding accidents. Don't trust other drivers, take their possible mistakes/carelessness into account and drive accordingly.

It's all ****ty road craft, the point stands, don't get out of your car to road rage it's not likely to end well.

Iv been a truck driver for over 25 years, been the victim of all sorts of bad drivin and guilty of some myself.

What works for me is to apologise imediatly if I f up and if someone f's me up I just let it go, I'm not saying it's not irritating but if someone pulling out in front of me or overtakes stupidly, which happens a lot because a lot of the more hot headed lads do so as not to be behind a truck, is the worst thing that happens that day, it's not a bad day.

No damage, no injuries, no big deal.

    Thread summary so far:

The roads are not full of twats driving like nuts, but selfless citizens whose kids have all fallen through a glass table or whose wives have been banging the postman. Remonstrating with them for putting you and your kids at risk is plainly selfish given the monstrous sense of guilt they harbour about their daily mistakes. A sense of guilt so profound that it may even force them to abuse or even hurt you should you be selfish enough not to accept your fate and get run off the road.
