Ok so I was friendly with a girl about 10 years ago when I was in collage, Not intimate just good mates, she had a rough time and I used to like kinda looking out for her (in my own head I was, she was easily influenced and a bit of a nutter, but i cant say I didnt think very fondly of her)

Anyway, I moved away - phones/numbers got lost/broken, people get busy etc etc etc.

So I was back in that town about 4 years ago and decided to call over, I was on an errand so I could only stop by and say hi - and as I had no number for her just called by the house - No-one home :(

So a year after that, same thing.

    Next year, same thing.

I was beginning to think this girl had maybe moved away, as her parents had bought her the house and she was having trouble finding work etc, or maybe she just sold it and bought somewhere else or moved to the moon or something.

So I was in the town again today, and did my little yearly road trip by her house, no-one home!!! But - the front was done up with a new fence, and lovely potted plants and bushes and the house looked well, maintained, and lived in, so someone is living there.

I asked one of the neighbours who was living there and he couldnt tell me so i plodded along home with myself.

I have searched facebook, bebo, and even tried myspace!!! No trace of her.

As with all new houses built around the time, the builders never heard of a landline and the house has no number - all the places she worked are gone, the people are gone, and our mutual friends lost contact too and never really bothered after we all moved away.

So - My first question is, how do I find out who owns the house now? If I can do that it would save me knocking on the door once a year for a start. it may also help me find her or get her number, or just get an idea of what happened to her. She cant have vanished!

Before anyone accuses me of being LM or whatever i just really wanted to say hi to her again see how she is doing. and the more times i draw a blank when i look for her - the more i want to find her - ffs it shouldnt take four minutes to find anyone in this day and age let alone 4 years.

So what ideas do you guys have or how would you find her or get her number to say hi, remember me? Sounds pretty sad but i genuinely want to find out how she is. as I said she had a rough time over the years i knew her so i'd love to find her and see ho she is doing.

ok let the suggestions, and abuse, roll in!

Write her a letter, put your number on it. Simples.

And send it to the house she may have moved from years ago? Worth a go I suppose - rather find the owner of the house and be sure she does/doesnt live there.

If it was meant to be, you'll guess her phone number.

Jump into her back garden with ten white tshirts and hang them on her clothes line. Write your number on tshirts and await joyous phonecall or garda knocking on your door.

Exactly. If the house has been sold the owner might forward the post to the new address. Either way leave your return address on the back of the envelope.

Just knock on the door one day, ask "Is there a *name* around?"
If they say anything useful, great. If they don't, say "Oh, I must have the wrong house, so, sorry."

Follow her home one night and lurk in the bushes for a few days - if something happens then you are in, if not - at least you had some fun in the bushes

Send a letter to the house, then forget about it if you don't get a reply, you're only driving yourself crazy. Years looking for someone? Move along, life's too short

Break in, have a look around for pictures of her. If there are none, rob their telly. If tere are some, scrawl your name and phone number in blood on her wall. Girls appreciate that kind of romanticism.

But the whole point is that he's LOOKING for her!

Follow her family and any friends she might have had and build an intricate web of intrigue and suspicion that leads to you breaking into the house tieing the family up and looking for the Fritzl style dungeon they're keeping you lost love...

At least thats what I'd do...

ok so maybe its not consuming you. There's just loads of people I'm sorry I didn't keep in touch with but at the same time I don't think about it coz you just have to get on with things. Maybe if you had asked the neighbour if such n such was still living there instead of asking who was living there.

It did - but she may not live there, the house may have been sold 10 times since then so its pretty pointless. unless she does live there - which wold have fixed this years ago!

    Pff - go figure!

You'll need 4 pairs of latex gloves, 1.5 litres of Parazone bleach (PARAZONE, don't use Domestos), 3 feet of rubber hose, a bottle of syrup of figs....... wait.... what do you need to do again?

OK...head to the local Post Office, ask to see the register of electors for the area, say you're worried you won't be able to vote for Mickey D. If she's still in the house she'll be on the register.

    Find does not mean hide......

Throw her name and address into the phonebook, see if a number pops up for the house you make an annual pilgrimage to.
