The smell of matches, the smell of petrol, the smell of wet paint, the smell of a stew simmering away on the cooker, the smell of aloe vera just applied to skin, the smell of a man after a day's hard graft, the smell of a first pint of an eve, the smell of a BBQ.

    And tip-ex. And markers.

The smell of a builders 'work van'. Just love the earthy smell of it. Probably stems from the fact that my Dad always worked on building sites when I was a kid, and I remember feeling so cool and 'proud' of him......

This song explains the feeling better than I could. Whenever I hear it, it takes me back to being a child again........

    old pub smell.

Kind of a mix of about 60% guinness 30% tobacco 9% dry roasted peanuts 1% piss. You don't get it any more since the smoking ban of course.

old man pub smell is the best smell. always get a whiff when passing one, reminds me of being young and in a pub with my parents (though I'm sure it didn't happen that much).

most of the ones in this thread aren't odd though! my oddest one is sweat :o love it. not a ground in dirty kinda sweaty smell from an old unwashed man, but a worked up kinda sweat smell. Gorgeous! *swoons*

I love the smell of sulfur and electronic circuit boards and believe it or not tar  the black tar they build the roads with, I know I must be out there.

A freshly opened bag of Dolly Mixtures.

The smell of a wood workshop.

And most importantly the greatest smell ever.... Frying bacon when I am hungry.

(Of course the sweet smell of success is one I have not yet tried)

That kind of muddy, grass and beer smell that only seems to happen at festivals, you know the one mingled with that 'tent' smell too - love it!

Smell of a hay barn, always reminds me of when I was small

Smell of briquettes - always reminds of the Bord na Mona ad from when I was younger - you know the one with the Marino waltz on it - gives me a real safe feeling (was my grandparents 'song' too) :)

The smell of winter - it's my favourite season and I swear it has a smell, something to do with the crispness in the air or something

The smell of a dry-cleaners. The chemicals or something. My Dad used to own a dry cleaners when I was little and the smell of it just brings me right back to doing my homework perched on one of the tumble dryers all cosy waiting to go home...

    Yes, indeed.
I only do it through cut out holes in fresh sheets, and never on Sundays.

    Creosote,
    A horse/ponys coat,
    Babies (not all the time!)
    Apple shampoo,
Walking past the body shop or the brewery in Cork City,
    Christmas trees!
The air at night-it's so much cleaner smelling,
The air in winter-definitely crisper and christmassy,
    Roses,
    Strawberries,
    Lemon Flash floor cleaner,
    Polo mints,
    Woodbines (or any untipped cigarette)

I prefer natural smells or those that have no scent! Things that smell too strong, whether its a nice or not so nice a smell gives me a headache! The only flower that has no scent is a sunflower! Say I have an allergy to strong smells. I have a nose like a bloodhound, I can smell lilies next door!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,349 ✭✭✭✭starlit

Love the smell of that smells of nothing! But favourite smells are vanilla, coffee, caramel, chocolate, fruit, grass, flowery/fruity sweet scents of perfumes/drinks, wine and that freshly washed smell! I love the smell of lasagne and chilly con-carne! Can't stand para-zone! Drives my head bonkers! I get nausea and headaches from it! I like the smell of rose flowers! I like the smell of the sea air if its not too smelly. There are a number of putrid smells I don't like though.

The whiff from a delicately buttered set of lacy panties, freshly discarded and not yet 'gone crusty'.

    That and cat's heads.
