I see a few people have put up about FR, I got 70 so will tell ye how I studied for it, theres some things I would have done differently looking back.

    1. Consol - do the 'basic' consols first, try to get head around principals, I did schedule method, step 1, step 2, step 3 etc. Do as many of them in the papers as there are, and redo them. Mainly focused on notes, then prob every 2nd or third did the statements. They never balanced!

I made step by step notes, about 6 a4 pages that were my bible, if x adjustment comes up these are the entries, put this together by going through questions.

I started off my consol study with the question packs, this was the wrong thing to do I think, they are far too basic and build it up too slowly and take too much time.

find a method and stick to it and practice it.

    2. Cashflow, had a 2 page - this is what you do for cashflow doc with t accounts and all the entries.

    3. IAS - I did the grindschool but to be honest for most of these I found the class notes better, read notes, did examples and as many questions as I could in each exam pack.

    4. complicated Consols - you cant really do these until youve done basic consol and IAS. then give them a bash, one at a time. You cant really try to do 4 of these in a day, youll get confused (well I did anyway).

    5. notes notes notes - make your own!! 2 page crash course to cashflow, half a page on revenue. Really basic that if youre tight on time you can get something down. the more basic the better and know them and index them well. I made these as I went along and put them all together in the end, as I came across a consol adjustment in questions id add it etc.

    6. Index stuff - know your notes! have it all indexed inside out and know how to find anything v quickly, make a sheet for each IAS of where youll find it in the papers/question pack.

    7. on the day spend the extra 5 mins picking the right questions for you to do first, do your best first but make sure to stick to timing!!

    8. if you are feeling panic setting in take a 2 min walk to loo - I had one of these 5 mins into Q1 when I paniced on first adjustment, went for a walk, came back and got it together and got 70.

Hope this helps someone and goodluck!!

Failed FR as well by 4%! Livid, as I thought I had definitely passed it. Amazed I got AA.

Can anyone tell me is it possible to get a paper rechecked?

And failing that does the institute do revision course before the October repeats?

    Thanks

I think all papers between 41 and 49% were corrected twice, I was 3% off in my of mine, its pretty sickening! They sent us information today with our results about appeals etc,. all seems a bit of a money racket . I think I'm going to choose the chartered grinds school over the cai revision courses, not really sure what to do.

Isnt everything with the Institute!! Will get it checked anyway..
    4% FFS!!!

I was on the grind schools website today but didnt see anything about revision courses for the October repeats, I would definitely being going with them thou. Did a CGS course for the other 3 and passed them...

Oh sweet jesus such an awful nights sleep waiting on those bloody results. Woke loads of times and even checked the web site during the night in case they were put up - sad I know.

Got the 4 and cant believe it. Had to wait on posty to deliver the actual results - just got the 50% in two and did a little better in the other two.

Just shows you never have a clue how you do in these exams. I left the fa exam fairly pleased that I had given it a good shot and happy that i had definitely passed it - got 50% in it. FFS you never know. Delighted to get them tho regardless of the %.

Good luck to those who have to go again - chin up it will be worth it in the end.;)

I heard great things about the CGS but nearly €600 to attend is just a joke  good education is deffo for the rich!!!!!!!! Is there any well wishers with kind hearts out there willing to sell me a copy of there CGS Notes for FR, SFMA and T?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 412 ✭✭Hackysack

I've recently been through the Griffith College lectures for FAE and I've been extremely impressed with them. They were originally offering lectures at half the price of CGS. Worth checking out if they're doing something for CAP 2 (can't imagine that they're not) if cash is tight.

Have any of you who took these CAP2 exams done so through the Elevation porgramme?

If so would you recommend the program?

I am considering registering for it for all four CAP 2 classes beginning in October but dont know anyone who attended it before

Many thanks in advance for any help/advice

I done it and found it excellent until i got my results LOL... it is hard going but when i do pass it will all be worth the efford!!!!! My problem was the open book approach to the exams, I was too relaxed about studying and no douth I done up SH*T notes for myself

The Elevation is excellent because of the freedom of not having to get a training contract and your employer can't sack you if you fail and you can apply for prior work experience, i got the full amount taken off which is excellent as i only need approx 1yr work experience to do now, all i need to do is pass the exams

You can go through CGD or the CA it all depends on how you feel, there are a lot of good and bad things about each but if you put the efford in it will pay off regardless of where you study

    Best of luck!!!!

    Hi Lylo,

I posted up one about FR a few posts back, I found the FR CGS brilliant, if you were going to even do 1, id say its worth doing,

    Good luck!

    Hi All,

I am one of the unfortunates that didnt get exams this time round! I am modular so had FR and SFMA ... I was just looking for some general advice.

I did the CGS school revision course for Finanical Reporting and SFMA, I see the revision course of FR is starting this weekend. Just wondering would it be worth my while doing the autumn revision course or will it be all the same material that we were given in June? has anybody done this before ?

I really am determined to get these exams this time around, got 40 % in FR and SFMA so I hope I can pull it up from there!!

    Thanks a million!

    Hey guys,

I have a couple of repeats to do in October. June was my first attempt at CAP2..

Does your employer usually cover the resit fee (€70) per exam or is it up to me to pay?

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭R0N BURGUNDY

it would be good if they split the overall results up into groups of people who sat all 4 exams etc. because i would say the % of people who passed all exams sat is fairly raised by the amount of people who are just resitting one or 2 subjects.

Does anyone know if the chartered accountants Revision course would be worthwile going to, or do you reckon the CGS would be better?

I did the CGS for both SFMA and Financial Reporting, I got the SFMA and failed the Financial. HOwever I found the notes for the revision courses excellent. Just need to get my timing right was all.
The notes for FR are brillant and the way they explain is very understandable.
