Mick O'Driscoll, Niall Ronan and Marcus Horan, who all played in Ireland's game against Scotland last Saturday have been released back to Munster and will travel with the squad to France tomorrow for a training camp that concludes with the first of three pre-season matches.

Ronan started the game in Murrayfield while Horan and O'Driscoll were introduced as second half substitutes and they are joined for the trip to France by their current international squad colleagues, Damien Varley and Peter Stringer.

Also included in the 31 strong squad are newcomers BJ Botha and Ian Keatley along with Under 20 International JJ Hanrahan and former squad member Gerry Hurley who provides the cover at scrum-half in place of the absent Tomas O'Leary and Conor Murray.

Munster play La Rochelle on Friday at the 12,352 capacity Stade Marcel-Deflandre (7pm).

Who are they playing? Is it on French telly? I'd love to see:

    WDP, Sherry, Botha, Nagle, O'Driscoll (C), O'Mahoney, O'Donnell, Coughlan;
Stringer, Keatley, Mafi, Deasy, Barnes, Howlett, Murphy

Might be expecting a bit much

Mafia on the wing? I'd rather he continued at 12, with Barnes outside him. They look like they could form a very solid, if unspectacular, centre pairing.

I'd go for a pretty similar team like:
    Hurley, Sherry, Botha.
    Nagle, MOD.
    POM, Coughlan, TOD.
    Stringer, Keatley.
    Mafi, Barnes.
    Zebo, Murphy/Deasy/Hurley, Howlett.

I think that the above team has a good enough mix of youth and experience, that it will give a good look at the team for during the RWC. You can be sure that uncle Deccie will ensure that all the internationals get a good amount of gametime though :-( .

Keatley's debut? Must watch this if I get a chance.

    Would like to see

    Hurley, Sherry, Botha
    MOD, Nagle
    POM, TOD, Coughlan,
    Stringer Cusack
    Zebo, Mafi, Barnes, Howlett
    Murphy

I'd be hopeful this can be the season Darragh Hurley gets ahead of Horan, especially as we're entering a new RWC cycle.

    Munster Select For La Rochelle
    11 August 2011, 12:58 pmBy The Editor
A crowd of 10,000 is expected to turn up to Stade Marcel
Deflandre in La Rochelle on Friday when Munster open their
season against the French Division 2 side.
Munster coach Tony McGahan named his starting XV after
the squad had trained this morning but didn't list
replacements because he intends using all of the squad
that travelled, with the exception of Duncan Williams, BJ
Botha and Doug Howlett, in the course of the game.
Williams is recovering from a slight groin strain but is
expected to be involved in the game next week against
London Wasps, along with Howlett and Botha.

The issue with Williams plus the absence of Tomas O'Leary
and Conor Murray necessiatated the inclusion of Gerry
Hurley and the Cork con scrum-half starts tomorrow night
    outside Garryowen's Declan Cusack.

There's a familiar enough look to the pack with the
exception of Dave O'Callaghan who is named at openside
    wing-forward.

Munster: Johne Murphy; Denis Hurley, Danny Barnes, Scott
Deasy, Simon Zebo; Declan Cusack, Gerry Hurley; Wian du
Preez, Damien Varley, Stephen Archer; Billy Holland, Mick
    O'Driscoll; Dave O'Callaghan, Tommy O'Donnell, James
    Coughlan

AFAIK it will not be on tv. Go onto munsterfans from the start of the
game and there should be some updates of scores etc

DaveOC at 7 and TOD at 6?

I'd love to see that game. Shame it's not making it onto TV. :/

TBH I expect a fairly sizeable defeat from Munster, given than French clubs seem to be somewhat ahead of their north European counterparts so far. But I'd never write off any Munster team in any situation against any opposition at any time of the year.

Other way around DOC at 6 and TOD at 7.

La Rochelle are a second division team and I would have confidence in Munster despite French teams being more ready

Says in the article that O'Callaghan is at openside, but I agree it's far more likely that that is wrong.

They were first division last season and only finished narrowly enough below Brive who pushed Munster. I wouldn't be too disappointed with a loss if I was a Munster fan.

TBH the teams in the Pro D2 would probably give a good account of themselves in the RD12.

Good point I assumed La Rochelle would have shed a lot of their best players when relegated but I don't follow French rugby enough to know

I see there was an apology on page 2 of the Irish Sun today to Doug Howlett for their reporting of Christmas party fight. They acknowledged that he did not get into a fight with anyone, did not cause any injury and did not get thrown out of any pubs on the night, and he was not drunk and disorderly. My brother was in a well known Kilkenny hostilery that night and said Howlett was a sound man. He must have gotten his legal eagles onto the Sun to kick some a**

    Welcome to boards Doug! :D

He did get arrested though. I wonder which player broke the hand of that 20year old medical student? It seems unfair that everyone just assumed it was Howlett because he got arrested. Lazy journalism

I agree 100%. It was poor Journalism. I wonder how the Journalist got a lot of "eye witness reports" at that time in the morning, unless he was following the team ( I was a surprise party I believe so that seems unlikely) I heard that DH was breaking up a fight between the 2 guys when the gardai arrived. They put him in a van to move him on but let him go and didnt charge him with anything.
And Tom, I ain't Doug! LOL

If he didn't, he has a lot of media outlets to pick a bone with. Irish Times, RTE, Independent, Examiner and pretty much everyone else all reported him as being arrested.

This is porbably going to be a scores update, surely that's fairly easy to follow even in French.

Declan Cusack converted the first try, not sure what kind of kick it was but good to see he's getting the chance to kick for goal, last year Warwick did it the few times the 2 of them took the field.

All over, final score 19-14, seems that Munster's 2nd half display was much improved from the first half.
