obviously what they do is pretty low brow and whatnot, but surely it's just a sexual orientation like any other? whilst we feel sorry for their victims, surely we must also feel sympathy for they themselves who live in a society that deems their sexual preferences to be deviant.

It is not "sexual orientation like any other" ... and it is 100% deviant, just sometimes it's hard to judge who should be blamed :

All problems start in the heart. You can have a terrible urge inside yourself to slap people that annoy you, rape women etc etc etc. Once you know you have those urges, be ashamed, cast the thought aside and hope it never enters your mind again.

Or you could have the urge, feed the urge by fantasizing about it, then eventually you might actually go out and do the bad deed.

So best thing is to not feed those desires. :D

If you fed the desire and it led to the act, then it's your fault if it happens for real!

By "paedophile" I'm assuming the OP means someone who has acted on his/her paedophilia and molested a child. No, I have no sympathy for them. We judge people by their actions and such actions are illegal, unethical, and unacceptable.

Without action, we simply don't know what a person is thinking, and trying to control thoughts is getting in to "thought police" territory. I have no trouble believing there have been paedophiles who went through their whole lives successfully resisting temptation, and we'll never know.

Looters - do you sympathise with them?
obviously what they do is pretty low brow and whatnot, but surely it's just a occupation like any other? whilst we feel sorry for their victims, surely we must also feel sympathy for they themselves who live in a society that deems their occupation to be deviant.

But if they only chose not to act on it out of fear of the consequences then when in a position where there is a chance you can avoid those consequences then you are more likely to offend. Meaning even though they chose not to act they are still sexually attracted to kids and thus paedophiles.

I'm not talking about your friends here I'm talking about someone who is attracted to say a 10 year old.

You dont have to touch a child to be a paedophile, someone might sit at home and pull themselves off 10 times a day thinking of raping children. He might never touch a child for fear of being caught but it doesnt change the fact that he's a paedophile.

No I have no sympathy what so ever for them they prey on children,
Children are particularly vulnerable and defenceless, and the damage caused to them often leads to a lifetime of pain. It steals their life from them. When the starting line for that life of pain is when you're a child, that's a Hell of a long time to have to live with it.

I understand what you mean about it being a sexual orientation to an extent, however you can't ignore the fact that this orientation involves having sex with children without their consent(as they are too young to give it, not understanding the concept etc.).

Whether someone acts on their urges or not, they still have the urge to rape a child.

If someone regularly has urges to rape a grown adult, but never acts on it, you can't deny that it is a disgusting thought and very, very wrong.

It's the same deal with pedophilia, yes it's obviously hard to have those urges but not acting on them does not mean that those urges are not sick.

Made a thread about this in after hours before but Mickey Dolenz doesn't like me because I'm awesomer than him so it was locked.

Posted it in Humanities instead, it got really long though but still one of the more interesting threads if I do say so myself! http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056249576

Meh, banning me would mean I'd just have to register an email and sign up on here again. Just goes to show that you locked my thread due to having a personal gripe, otherwise you would have locked this one too.

Anyway if you're genuinely interested in the subject OP the thread in humanities sho am gooood. You'll get a lot of tabloidesque headline posts in this thread

It's cool I'm done posting in this thread didn't come in to derail the thread anyway.

Probably will get a ban (probably another one from micky dolenz no less) but what can you do, it's a mild inconvenience at worst. A simple log out would mean I could view the forum again anyway. Anyway the thread on humanities is good if anyone wants to read it, some knowledgeable people weighed in on the subject big tiiiime

If you derail another thread with your petty gripes about being banned etc, you will be permanently banned from After Hours. Last warning.

There are certain things that should never ever be discussed in After Hours and this is definitely one of them.

    Thread closed.
