What will arise from this is a growing right-wing sentiemnt of the general public and why the **** not. Burning and looting hairdressers and Tescos as a protest against the system. GTFO.

They should unleash some of the dogs on them, lets see how fast they can run!:)

I must ask, which type of right-wing sentiment? :pac:

    Why Liverpool/Bristol/Birmingham.

Because they're in England and the riot is "supposedly" to do with the Met. That's why.

Update: A 26-year old man is in a serious condition in hospital after being found with gunshot wounds in Croydon.

Shots fired in Liverpool as well.

I'm pretty certain you can do better than this kind of mindless verbal "hey let's kick their butts lol" kind of stuff. Others can't, but they're being banned as we speak.

Well, some of the extreme right in Britain are already trying to make money out of this.
    @bnp BritishNationalParty
Don’t get mad: get even. Text DONATE to 60777 to give £3 to the BNP, the ONLY party that will stop mass immigration and the riots it brings.

The law and order type as well as the usual spin offs that I am not a fan of.

Now if THAT isn't the word that cannot be mentioned behaviour then I don't know what is. Disgusting.

They do see that there are white people rioting too don't they?

Eh, "BNP" is pretty much synonymous with that word anyway.

I assume the BNP will be picking and choosing what images and videos to spread around. :pac:

Any fires getting started now will go until tomorrow morning judging from the numbers of firefighters already deployed. A timber yard apparently has been set alight. Unreal.

Apparently from LBC sources: London Fire Brigade is "running out of fire engines."

This is barely news over here though there have been some good followings in the blogosphere like gawker media. Is there a live feed anywhere of news cover on it?

Really scary thing is that many of the shops being fired have flats above them, with no firebrigads to respond god help those people.

I would be absolutely amazed if there haven't already been deaths tonight.

I'd hardly say it's a "White Riot" At least, not according to the BNP!

I suppose the thought could be that if they put the army out, it may incite more people to take to the streets?

It's just amazing that this just gets worse by the hour.

Its like Lord of the Flies writ large, the societal pressure that usually prevents the scum in society from doing what they want has dissipated, the police seem ineffective and clueless.

If this was the united states, the national guard would have already been called in. It would seem to me that some form of limited martial law in certain areas of London would be justified with curfews imposed and the use of plastic bullets and watercannon on gatherings of rioters and looters.

The guy running the Guardian's live updates is finished for the night and has signed off with this:
Right, I'm off home. Thanks for reading and for all the contributions and comments. Hope all are safe.

Paul Lewis and Mustafa Khalili are still out reporting from London on Twitter – they're heading to Ealing, where some reports have suggested violence is still continuing, and expect to arrive in about 20 minutes or so.

If any do doubt that there are decent journalists out there in light of the recent scandals, the bravery of these two guys should correct that. I would be terrified to even leave a light on in my house, no mind head to the centre of the action with a smartphone ready to report on it. A journalist from the Beeb was mugged and had his phone stolen earlier tonight.

I'm really torn on whether or not I would have liked to see American tactics used tonight. It all would've ended several hours ago anyway if they had.

I can't honestly say. These events are happening in disparate areas of London and they are ebbing and flowing.

What seems to be happening is that rioters gather quickly, loot, rob and burn and then dissapate before the police can arrive in force and make arrests.

Its not like a traditional riot in which the rioters stay in a relatively static area and lob bricks at the police (who are able to concentrate in formation to take them on)

I just can't believe that this has been going on for over "48 Hours" in that "Garageland"! What you certainly cannot "Deny" is that because of all of these "Police & Thieves" "London's Burning".

"The Right Profile" need to get in there and seriously "Clampdown" on this situation.
I mean, "Janie Jones"! Enough of all this "Hate & War" already... it's just all so "Hateful".

    Define these tactics for me?

Barely news? It's huge news. Everywhere. We don't have a 24 hour news channel in Ireland so no, it's not on all the time but Irish people are obviously watching it on Sky and BBC which are more or less constantly showing it. To say it's barely news here is puzzling to be honest. People here are shocked and appalled and very sympathetic towards the innocent victims of these scumbag rioters. It'll be all over the papers here too tomorrow.

The police have said they wouldn't attempt to prevent looting. Once that boundary is gone it starts a dangerous slide.
The police seem to have preferred to have some areas completely destroyed rather than have light damage more spread out but once word spread that they could do what they wanted with impunity that was pretty much it.

National Guard with proper equipment to get around and enough numbers and arms to enforce the law.
