    Clusterfvck of a thread

    The riots now have no connection whatsoever with the shooting of well known piece of scum last week. This is now about yoof "'aving a laff cos its fun innit" and I suspect the encouragement of same by those who seek to create a criminal economy in certain areas. ie drive out business through rioting/wholesale theft, undermine the councils rate base forcing cutbacks in services and police so leaving the way open for easier growth of "alternative" economy run by the criminal (under)classes.

    Police said knifes and machetes were looted from shops and used in attempted attacks on officers in Tottenham on Saturday night. It was a chilling echo of the 1985 Tottenham riots which saw PC Keith Blakelock become detached from colleagues and then killed by a mob.

    Actually, seeing how it has come up, I noticed in the photos of the riots that when you could see the faces of the people they were from ethnic minority groups. I didn't really think much about it, and thought it a coincidence which was backed by the lack of news commentary on the races of the rioters, but maybe the media are trying to ignore that the rioters might be pissed off, economically poor ethnic minorities?

    What tv are you watching? Even the right-wing media has shown streets devoid of police and full of looters.
    The Metropolitan Police said it was focused on containing violent disorder in Tottenham on Saturday night, which left dozens of officers injured and saw squad cars, shops and flats burned to the ground in some of the worst disturbances seen on British streets in recent years.

    But its tactics meant gangs of youths were free to break into stores at nearby Tottenham Hale retail park and in Wood Green, with looters forming an orderly queue in broad daylight to steal from a sports shop.

    Riot police did not intervene to stop the looting in some areas until 7.30am the following morning, almost 12 hours after the riots began, and last night there were fresh disturbances in nearby Enfield

    Good news story from guardian
    We've detoured to Dalston where a bus was set on fire in shacklewell lane earlier. The single deck bus is now cordoned off and there doesn't seem to be much damage, but the incident has clearly shaken the large Turkish community here. Many shopkeepers are on the street talking about how they chased away the gang of youths behind the bus fire.

    "We beat up four of them quite badly and they ran off," one man, who wouldn't give his name, said. Another said: "this is not justice, coming here and trying to attack us." Notably several businesses are still open ascot usual here, unlike other violence hit areas.

    We've just watched a mob of locals chase a gang of hoodies down the main road, with police vans on full siren in pursuit.

    That's bull****. The youths that are rioting are not some foreign immigrants just off the boat, they're second and third generation immigrants along with indigenous people who live in long established communities with plenty of ties to the democratic and civil apparatus of the country. Many from their communities are union jack waving british patriots. You are completely misaligning their motivations. This is not the equivalent to the Paris ghettos where muslim youths rioted.

    I agree on your point about the rioters being opertunistic criminals Mike, but I am not sure about the guy who was shot being a well known piece of scum. I am open to correction but I could not find anything about having any convictions.

    From what I have read so far it looks like that at worst he was a bit of a paranoid who was in a troubled state due to the stabbing of a close friend recently.

    This guy - Shaun Bailey - on Newsnight is my new hero. Hes on there responding to the "Where Dave Camerson" red herring by stating quite correctly "What exactly do people think Dave Cameron is going to do? Pick up a shield and head down to Tottenham to deal with the rioters?"

    Political figures racing to the scene is more about their own media image - nothing else. I can understand why *they* do it, I just dont get why the media think its critical news that a fat, balding middle manager is going to hold a face to face meeting.

    Someone should make this guy the UK PM. Hes got an amazing amount of common sense.

    Hey, I accept everyone as I see them, but no matter what, there will always always be trouble when "races" mix and when they become intertwined in society. White, black or any other colour.

    Opportunists, same happened here when the Celtic jersey wearing numbnuts went rioting down Dublin streets in 2006, All there for a bit of fun and looting, not protesting against the Met.

    What makes you think 'natives' love the country? Did you somehow miss the recent student riots? Or does street violence only matter to you if non-white people do it?

    Yes, and many English people are mad. I would love a world with happiness, and all getting on like a ****ing house on fire, but that is not how we as humans operate. Integration, multiculturalsim and the "mixing" of races never ends up happy. Hey, that is just the way it is.

    Do people who think the police are doing such a 'great' job really think that looting would have gone on unabated on the King's Road for twelve hours? If so, there's a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you.

    Race is not some god defined absolute. Race is a slight variation based on geographical separation of a population over a length of time. We all share the same ancestors. The races only started separating 20,000 years ago when the first homo sapiens left mother Africa, but the human race stretches back 200,000 years. Now that the boundaries of geography have been overcome, over the next few centuries the races will gradually merge together and that is completely natural and completely unstoppable.

    The mindless scum walking down the streets with a 42 inch tv in hand don't give a toss about Mark Duggan !! This is merely a shopping spree at this stage. It would'nt bother me in the slightest to see these thugs getting a good thrashing from the police. They are a drain on society and now they are tearing apart their own communities = ANIMALS

    Trying to link this to race is missing the point completely. People are products of their environments regardless of whether they are African/Asian/Caucasian etc

    To refer to these rioters as scum is also short-sighted. It is a reflection on society as a whole that produced people that act in these ways. Lack of education at a very basic level and community support to people from under-priveleged backgrounds.

    I do not condone the behaviour of the rioters in any shape or form but what needs to be examined here is how we can change society so that we are not breeding people that feel that they need to act in such a way.
