According to st Vincent de Paul, alot of families are not far off it with one in eleven children living in consistent poverty.

Yeah yeah, in the meantime, let them eat cake.

Wtf is wrong with people? There are thousands dying and we're moaning about 500 poxy k being sent over. But no, let them die till Africa sorts out its problems.

being honest im not sure of the total amount but i remember 3mil being given in feb.

now dont get me wrong, im all up for charity etc, i will give money if i have it, just imo i dont think our gov can justify giving it at their own accord, when alot of people, tax payers and hard working people are currently struggling to put food on their table or pay their mortgage etc.

Poverty in Ireland today does not equal a famine.

Agreed, there was fck all given to people who had their houses damaged during the last flash floods.

*even if some the houses where actually built in flood risk areas, something that FF ignored during the boom.

I think there is a world of difference between struggling and actual starvation.

The money is for water for human beings, we probably spend that much on soft drinks here in an hour.

Yeah because the billions and billions we have been donating since the 80's have done them the world of good

The problem people have is that money doesn't go to the cause. It goes to fund the charity board of director's new BMWs firstly, then to their ground-staff, then the adminstration/travel costs, then to african war-lords to buy weapons, then maybe a fraction of a percentage to the actual cause.

Poverty means people going hungry, have lack of adequate accommodation, heating, access to clean water, clothes, healthcare and education. This is what is happening here every day. The very same problems that the poorer in AAfrica are facing.
Having no food and water means having no food and water - no matter what way you look at it.

It's not enough. The poor in this country are fabulously wealthy compared with the poor in most of the rest of the world.

If begrudgery and mealymouthedness could be currency we'd be rich right here in AH.

There is having no food and water and dying because of it and there is being malnourished because your ma smokes 40 Johnny Blue a day.
