^ This. Apparently I'm incapable of liking posts with my measly post count, so I figured I'd just quote instead.

I agree with Crow's thoughts on towns; frankly, with probably half the active population creating their own separate areas, what little community there is has become spread quite apart. Everyone seems to have their own town, as well as houses in everyone elses'. While I can understand the appeal in claiming a large area as a personal building space (As I attempted to... evidently I didn't go bloody far enough!), I honestly cannot see the practicality of most of the towns.

The plots tends to be of both restrictive size and theme. This creative restriction, on top of peoples' allegiances to their own projects, destroys any sense of sub-community identity or loyalty to a particular town. On my previous server, myself and others went and built our own area on the server, christening it 'Ireland' due to our nationality. We even took in some boards refugees while the server was down. It seemed like it had an actual purpose.

I cannot say the same of the current towns. As it is, I'd heard some of the towns would be given monopolies over certain goods in order to encourage tourism, but I don't see that happening. There's nothing that could actually be offered - the economy system seems hugely underutilized as it is, and cutting off supplies of certain things would hurt it and people even more. Sticky Pistons, for example. As it is, we can't make any more on the server. I can't even sell mine. If a town were to suddenly claim them as its exclusive product, it would be a pain in the ass of everyone that wasn't the town owner.

If it wasn't something like Sticky Pistons? Nobody could take a claim on Sand or Dirt. That'd be ridiculous. I guess my point is that as it is, with our low population, the town system seems to be a deterrent to server growth. Seems like a fad that unfortunately hasn't passed.

I vote that /home remain, but /spawn be removed. It would encourage people to use the travel systems (boats / metro), and would individualise towns insofar as you're no longer one server command away from anyone else. People don't even use shops anymore, they /spawn and barter. If it wasn't certain you could meet up at spawn, people would pay more attention to stocking shops for sale while they're away.

Also get rid of mcmmo it got stupid when shovels dig diamonds out of dirt, thus devaluing the market and giving unfair stock advantage to the grinders and it encourages people to destroy the landscape while grinding.
I think nim got pissed off a while ago because someone stripped all the dirt off an entire mountain near his town, ruining the view.

I am speaking from the position of someone with nearly 350 in excavation and mining, BTW.

It was mentioned above, this is a survival server with f*ck all surviving involved.

Finally, is there a way to prevent any drops from dungeon mobs altogether? As mcmmo can identify them re: xp gain, I assume so.

It would make catching people who use mob spawners so much easier if they can't say they just 'found a dungeon'.

And while were at it for community projects... I propose the entire metro system be rebuilt in the nether. There are about a thousand problems with building the current metro, even as organized as the N/S, E/W system when you take private lines such as Krom's and basements into account.

As for towns... I propose Towny should be used as an expansion incentive, to be awarded to one town at a time, and only when enough use has been made of the current town area.

So if spawn becomes devoid of minerals, one of the other towns can be awarded Towny status, and a local spawn point under the conditions that it has a link to the spawn or a previously Towny'd town (metro) and is sufficiently far away to act as a separate 'world' (as in you could have several towns with no over land roads to each other and only nether metro link, encouraging you to build around the town rather than along the path between them.)

Can you charge a toll to enter an area? More use for iConomy, and imagine a world like in Morrowind where you weigh up the dangers of running the wilderness vs the cost of fast, safe transport (nether metro).

    Just a few ideas. Meh.

I'd be for keeping the spawn and home commands. I find that even with both i still have to walk use minecarts etc often enough anyway so its not like the situation on the last map.

I would be for getting rid of McMMO though. It does seem to make things a bit too easy for people who grind.

I think we should tie the number of towns to the active population on the server. Maybe an extra town for every twenty people or so.

I can't get the hang if the damn metro at the moment, everytime I lay down a cart it tears off and I have to walk to get it back, I preferred the old system with the detector rails:(.

Regarding the server not being tough enough to survive on, fact is minecraft just isn't a hard game. You can survive by digging a one deep hole into a hill and making a door:pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,427 ✭✭✭Morag

The carts are tricky you have to left click them to get into them.

I like the skills in the mcmmo it was strange at first to be getting glowsand when my digging skill went up, looking forward to see what happens next.

    hey cherry

anytime i go on the server its always messed up for my game ie. it dosnt render all the blocks , then id fall down below the map and be kicked saying "end of stream" and there is a huge delay when i right click the likes of chests or beds. i dont have this problem on any other server or sp and was wondering if there is anything that can be done ?

    thanks

Change the fog until you're back to your usual render distance. It forces a refresh of the chunks you've loaded, works grand for when I see a few world holes :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,174 ✭✭✭D

I have it set up that underground does not have PvP, only from water level upwards

So people can't come in and lift any track that I lay? What happens if they try?

its not just that though it comes up when im kicked saying connection refused: connect and end of stream every few seconds
edit just as i posted this logged in and everything is perfect now :)

If this goes through, I also recommend that players' respawn points be set through /home, or through the default way, beds. Since currency is a stored value on the server as opposed to a physical item in the inventory, people could just kill themselves, buy everything then /home.

    EDIT:

    ADDITIONAL INFO

Blocks disappear if i place them, blocks reappear if I mine them and I cant work switches.

Connection seems fine. Other games are working and in game mc chat is working fine too

Use /ping when in game to test your connection. If the "pong" is anything but instant (or near enough), then you're lagging.

It happens to me a lot.

Something I thought of last night concerned me; since the 1.8 update is going to be arriving soon (You know what I mean!), how is the server prepared for it? If my memory serves correctly, the last time new content was added to the game, it would only appear in new chunks.

This is an issue due to the fact we're restricted to x/z +-1800, meaning the stuff such as ravines and NPC villages will probably only appear past that boundary, assuming the boundary is extended or lifted.

I'm going to assume that its server configurable. We're currently in survival mode and the NPCs and stuff is in adventure mode. I guess the NPCs and stuff won't work unless we switch over to adventure mode and possibly a new map.

Also, the new 512 map heights worry me. I'm not sure how that will transition over on an old world, I don't think it will. The only way to avoid that would be configurable map heights.

I'd gladly vote for a new server for bigger maps / etc

I didn't get pissed...I was just wondering why people would mine right next to the spawn city and ruin the look of the area when it's just as easy to run a minute or two away from town.

Worldedit could fix that in about 5 seconds...I luvs my magic wooden axe :P

The problem with that is I'm pretty sure that the 1.8 Adventure 'update' is actually separate from the Adventure 'mode', meaning that we may be getting the new content in survival mode, which is where my initial concern came from/

Dear Nim if you have a message for me, pm me please.
Do not leave snotty signs at my shop driving away custom.
I did not poach your shop plot, there were no signs what so ever where I have built RAW.

    By the way

This is where your plot is, as you seem to have forgotten where it it.

In light of hearing both sides I agree with the final decision.

Well I'm siding with sharr0w. Nim you took the matter the completely wrong way by not only arguing on the chat in a terrible manner, but leaving signs at her shop too is just not on.

Also considering you already claimed ponsters plot why would you want that plot that not only was just a hole, but a hole leading to certain death at which point one of the admins had ordered you to cover it up completely or face a temporary ban? I can handle one thing but not multiple mishaps.

nimrod86 tempbanned for a week from the server.

I've no idea what was said about me in game chat, but the first I knew about this was when I logged in this evening, after being away all weekend, was the snotty sign and as that was public I wanted to address the matter publicly on thread.
Thanks for taking the time to look into it Cherry.
