What political independence from the UK has to do with tv channels is beyond me.
If that is beyond you, it seems it's pointless debating with you on this topic.

Because you're essentially suggesting we drop domestic Irish broadcasting and carry Freeview, a UK terrestrial service.

Nope, I think the service as envisaged is crap. Incorporating freeview into saorview would be a good idea. as it currently stands however, you can keep saorview.

You could always move up here to 'nordie land'. The licence is only around 6 euro more than the irish one. You'll get all the UK culture/TV channels you could handle, in fact you could even pretend it's not Ireland at all!

Digital TV is a huge improvement over Analogue TV. I am particularly enjoying the PVR capabilities. It's far from crap in my opinion. Do you really think I would be better off ditching my setup and subscribing to UPC or Sky? Why would I do that? I haven't got money to burn. Blaming Saorview, RTE or the Government because Saorview doesn't carry the channels you want is a bit like blaming the milkman if you have no bread. The bottom line is domestic terrestrial broadcasting has to exist and the fact that it is going digital is a good thing. I really don't understand what you are complaining about. It really would be a farce if we had to subscribe to UPC or Sky to receive our domestic channels, then we really would have something to complain about.
