    Either would being male.

I know that. I was just addressing upforanything as she said that being a female makes it easier to step in because you're less likely to get beaten up. In this situation, she was just as likely to have been beaten up.
The difference is the OP wasn't just one girl. She had friends with her. There is strength in numbers.
    QUOTE]

Yep strength in numbers, that's true. Can't always rely on your mates to wade in like you would though. I've been in a couple of situations before where it's amazing to watch the "flight or flight" instinct kick in amongst your mates. It's always the ones you think would help out, that end up legging it! But yes, I do think you're right. I don't know what I would have done in the OP's situation, but having mates by my side I certainly think it's a lot more likely I'd have intervened.

The people in the diner it sounds like didn't have the luxury of the OP in seeing how the incident kicked off. They came out, saw a group going at, and left them at it. If I wasn't at least reasonably sure how a row like this started again I'd be much slower to intervene, have heard plenty of stories of people intervening in situation only for both parties to turn on them (including a friend who got between a fella and the girl he was beating on one night only for the girl to scratch his face to ribbons, including eye damage).

Also very true. They see a group of people fighting, for all they know the ginger lad could have started it. Especially when girls are involved it's hard to know how people would react to you getting involved. Like yerman from Dalkey (Mark Spellman I think his name is?). All he did was try and defend a girl who was having a mad scrap on the street with her very aggressive boyfriend, but then the girl turned on him aswell and he ended up killed.

No member of a sci-fi club has ever won a fight.
No ginger person has ever intervened in a fight.
No UCD student has fought skangers possibly carrying syringes.
A huddle of skangers cannot retreat, they can only stumble forward.
    They dont retrieve their injured.

Ah, the faithful "you guys pretend to be attacking someone and I'll heroically save the day and then get laid" technique.

The person was found by the OP, this kind of thing happens every day in Dublin so there's no need to celebrate the action but rather accept it as the right thing to do and strive to do it ones self if presented with such a situation.

The person has been contacted and was obviously shown the thread at this stage and has not come forward prancing "It's me! It's me!" so they obviously want to stay anon. If anything is owed to this person for doing such a thing it is to respect their wish for privacy.

Yeah but it's a good story even it's made up, just like the bible for instance.

So you went to the 5th page where this thread was... pretty much dead... and brought it back into the spotlight because you wanted to write another message about it being bull and that you don't like it? Wouldn't it be more logical to let the thread die.

You don't like this thread... so what you should do is let it die and it wont be discussed... what you ARE doing is just bringing more attention to it.

In the words of the Foo Fighters, "Let it die".

i got in contact with him and he is ok. he said he doesnt need the drink as its something anyone should do. still spamming him with praise!!!

Ok, he didn't want a drink. That's fair enough. But what about the threesome? You did off him a threesome, didn't you?

I want to know more about this guy. Any chance he could make an anonymous account here and tell his version of the events of that faithfull night? He wouldnt have to reveal his true identity doing so.

The moral of the story is that this guy did a selfless thing in stepping in to help, and all I can say is fair f**ks to him. And it is everyone's own choice whether or not they would do the same be they man or woman it really doesn't matter, however I will say this if there were more people like the now famed Ginga Ninga maybe this country wouldn't be the state that it is in today. The scum have taken over, and they rule by the most powerful weapon of all, fear.

also de guys that looked out of the diner and went back in shud be ashamed of themselves!

I call a fake story on this one.
Such a typical BS after hours thread. Its the way its said. Making note to say those "guys" who came out of the diner, only to walk back in, were cowards... While the OP goes into detail to say he and his mates were across the road "wacthing" ...

    BullS*it.
This thread is just posted to draw a reaction from people.

There seems to be enormous amount of stories about little skangers acting the prick. Sounds like we need to double the number of guards in Dublin and build a new juvenile prison.

Like it would make a difference to anything, I lost my faith in those cowards years ago.

The rest of your post is just hearsay, but this is just simply factually incorrect.

Right. So, my name is... Red haired guy. I was the man in question that got involved in this incident the other night.

To clarify, I do not wish for congratulations or any real attention to be paid to my actions. Such as any of my friends that spotted this thread and posted it on my wall on Facebook or tagging me in posts about it (still forgive you :P)

I appreciate that the OP was worried about my well being and as she and you all now know I am fine.

I don't have martial arts training (barring transition year karate classes for a month).

OP's recollection of the story may be a bit better than mine seeing as I was pretty dazed afterwards (ended up walking the wrong way home and ending up on the other side of the city after :P ) but I don't really recall being kicked in the head with a running kick, kicks yes but nothing that could knock my head off my shoulders.

    I wasn't drunk that night.

It is not nearly the first time I have involved myself in such an incident as I see no point not to, I'd honestly rather the idea of me getting my head kicked in than some poor innocent just minding their own business. I'm not saying I'm a scumbag that thrives on getting into fights or love pain as I don't.

I don't really know what else to say.

If you see such a situation there's nothing stopping you from standing in. It's not courage or bravery, It's turning your brain off and being stupid, I find being stupid is really freeing :P

    Thank you,
    That guy.

I would never accept such a reward for doing what I feel was right.

TBH I know plenty of Karate heads that would do, and have done the same. More Martial artists with chivalry on the streets!

Hey, just seen the thread and recognised who it was straight away. Contacted him (sorry for the random phone call) and his response was much like the post above. Hadn't got to the end of the thread so hadn't realised he had talked to the OP until I chatted to him.

I remember him from Science in UCD and I can say he is a decent skin, an absolute gent and one we should all aspire to be like, well done sir.
